The 2015 fixture thread

Featured Replies

I was under the impression we did well financially out of playing games in the NT.. almost certain we don't lose money from these games.

I think that's what the previous posters were getting up - but far be it for me to pre-empt them.

Fixtures comes out at 10am. We've been dudded the last few years, however this year I have a feeling we'll have a good mix on winnable games in reasonable time slots with high drawing clubs. The fact we're in the bottom 6 bracket means we are going to play a few bad clubs multiple times but hopefully it'll see us rise next year...

Any chance we can be the home team against Essendon. Since 2006 we have played them only once a year and we have only been the home team in 2010 this is a disgrace where is the equilization.

I wouldn't be in a hurry to change anything about the Essendon set up. They're the only team we seem to have it over the last 5 years... just ask my wife and entire family of in-laws

I wouldn't have thought we had been "dudded" the last few years. In fact, I seem to recall over the past two seasons when the draw was released, many here were saying that if we can't improve our position with a draw like we had, then we were far worse than we thought (well, words to that effect).

Of course we're back to playing Geelong in Geelong

I'm making the drive down just so I can abuse the absolute living daylights out of that pissant Clark

why the f are so many of our G games...'away" buggers

why the f are so many of our G games...'away" buggers

That's probably a good thing, assuming that we still have the correct number of "home" games.

Imagine if Port got to play lots of "away" games at Adelaide Oval.

It's a shocker. Only 4 homr games against Victorian clubs (like this year) - Coll, WB, NM and St K. That's Collingwood plus the three worst Victorian clubs. The remainder of our home games are against interstate sides, including GWS at Etihad.

We also go to Geelong and have 4 home games starting at 1.10 on a Sunday (the worst timeslot in terms of interest).

The Richmond Friday night and the Sydney Saturday night are nice, plus we play Collingwood twice this year. But otherwise it's a really awful draw financially. To be expected of course, but nonetheless it's bad.

Return games against GWS, Collingwood, WB, St Kilda and Fremantle. That's OK overall.

round 23 vs Giants st Etihad

ummm yeah.... how about letting us play at the MCG u [censored] AFL idiots

7 games on free to air compared to Hawks 15.

Hopefully we get our shwit together in the next few seasons and earn better time slots and getter coverage.

If we serve up dross like previous years, we don't desrve more.

Probably one of the worst fixtures in recent memory.

The club absolutely cannot afford another season with <6 wins.

I don't like playing AWAY against sides who have made Etihad their HOME (ala Carlton and Essendon). Correct me if I am wrong, but haven't we had AWAY Games at the G against these sides last year as well? I can the see why the AFL do it, trying to make up for our lack of HOME games against high profile clubs at the MCG but it annoys me as we don't receive the gate. The MFC should come up with some strategies to make money off of these games in any event, the Dees fans do show up in big numbers at the G whether it is home or away. Just coz we are not the HOME side we should look at alternate ways to make money on any game we play at OUR ground!

I see we are playing Geelong in Geelong yet again

whats that , 17 of the last 20 years?

Of course they don't give us a home game against the cats weak dogs!

Whinge whinge.

Because we played so well against the Cats at the MCG this year didn't we?

The good news is we have 13 MCG games. Collingwood has 14 as does Richmond.

Our MCG games are mostly away games against Melbourne clubs. This is because we have sold home games to play interstate and we must play interstate teams there, so they take up our "home games".

It really is a horrendous draw but that's what we get for dishing up absolute rubbish the last couple of years.

“The fixture is reflective of where we are at as a club.”

What a terrible effing fixture from a commercial standpoint.

The PA and WCE games in NT are never more necessary - they, and the games against Coll on QB and Syd on Sat Night in Womens Round are the only games we will make money from. Perhaps we will come out for the GC game on Sat in Rd 1, but the other 6 home games are ALL on Sunday (Rd 23 v GWS is destined for that timeslot).

Those Sunday games are against all low drawing teams - WB, St K, NM, Freo, BL, and GWS.

I hope the 'spin' about this fixture being 'for the fans' is found out - it's 'for the fans of the high drawing teams' and that is it.

From a perspective of a fan from Brisbane, shattered that this is two years in a row they wont be playing either at the Gabba or Metricon. Boggles the mind how this can happen when there is two teams now in the state

I live 20km from K Park but refuse to go there, partly because my 16 game Victorian games membership does not get me through the gate.

I wasn't aware that Geelong had succeeded from Victoria.

Can someone please at all explain why Carlton get 6 Friday night games. Seriously. They were awful this year. Not much better last year. They'd be close to bottom 4 for teams I'd want to see on FTA. They get commercially looked after every single year.

As a paid up member I'm thinking this is the worst draw I have seen. The MCG is our home and the AFL send us to that crap hole at the docklands makes me sick. The MCG is our ground Gillon you @@""

The thing is, if the team actually *wins* games, the matches against WB, Saints, North and probably Brisbane can potentially attract 30k+, which is what you need for a profit.

What all of this comes down to is if you want a commercially viable fixture, you need to be commercially attractive. Melbourne is not.

The only way to fix this is to win games. From that standpoint, the fixture doesn't actually make it *harder* for Melbourne to win games.

We have no fate but what we make for ourselves. We can either blame the AFL, or we can suck it up, win some damn games of footy, and entice people to come to games.

It's not rocket science.
