Kent reminds me of Boomer Harvey

Except for less of a Kent. He reminds me of a young Paul Chapman, with 10% less polish but 10% more speed.

Patty McCartin still reminds me of Fev. I'm not sure if that's good or bad. Except for maybe some early Lunch Whitnall, Fev never got to play alongside a proper CHF in tandem like Hogan might be.

I still highly doubtful that the club has already nominated a player for pick 3. We are still three weeks away from the draft. We have all seen in the past that the couple of days beforehand gets pretty hectic with clubs changing player options and making a late bid on players.

Lever or McCartin are definitely not a certain for pick 3. Simple.

I'd be somewhat bemused if we hadn't made a call by now. All the games should have been processed for months now. The combine info and medicals sorted. Then I'd hope the interviews are largely just procedural for top picks. It's pretty hard to make it to the top without being all the things you look for in an interview and if you aren't it's pretty well known (see Dustin Martin). We only have to come up with an order for 1st, 2nd and 3rd on our list of the best players. It should be all ordered by now it's really just checking that those 3 names are all on track.

That said up until the combine and end of trade week I would've tried to keep an open mind as recruiting staff so that you don't bias your information on all the players. I fear we did that with Toumpas and Wines. We thought Toumpas would be unavailable, so we heavily looked over Wines, then late in the play GWS went a different way and we had a decision all of a sudden. We took Toumpas as we just liked what we saw and he was the new, fresh, highly rated kid. That might be complete BS, but I fear there is a bias you can create there. A bit of grass is always greener style.

Yes I agree there is only one variable at this stage and that is the saint's pick. The rest we already know, the games have been played, the draft combine is concluded so what would be still debating? I am assuming MFC has about three options for picks 2 and 3.

I just wonder if Roos is considering possibly playing frost forward, i thought i read somewhere that he could play both ends. If Frost can play forward that does change the dynamics of what we may be looking from our pick 3.

Personally I wouldn't pick lever if he is intended to be a key back at 192 cm I just feel he is a little short for a key post

I can guarantee he has been brought in to play down back. He is not a particularly effective forward and we won't not take a forward because of Frost's acquisition.

Yes, but when posters are placing some kids above others - it is sometimes because of their talent at age 18, not when they are ready to deliver on their potential.

The amount of times I have heard people exclaim that Brayshaw and McCartin are 'brutes, with bog bodies, ready from day one, or we should pick because they aren't skinny kids' makes we wonder whether people actually understand the obvious - the best players of this draft class will not necessarily reveal themselves for years.

It was certainly not intended as a negative trait!

Usually heard that phrase with the c word not [censored], but the point remains. And most (if not all) the best big forwards - Brown, Hall, Carey, Franklin - loved to throw their weight around.

I'm a bit suspicious of McCartin purely because he's got plenty to work on and had a bit of an injury interrupted year. But his talent is obvious and I think he'll walk in to a good development situation. If Hogan and Dawes stay fit, combined with Pedersen or Fitzy for a bit of cover it really should be straight to Casey for McCartin as he builds his tank and rounds out his game. He should be aiming to have a year like Hogan did in 2013, with the added bonus of getting a few games once he shows he's ready.

At the same time when they keep producing good players down there it allows him to keep pumping them up! He said Lewis Taylor was as good as the best kids he's had down there (ie. Hodge, Bartel etc). Lewis came out and showed that last year.

Now if you didn't get good footballers out of Geelong and Western Victoria then I think you're doing something wrong. But he's sure had a few good ones over the years.
