I don't think Hannath has been a huge loss at this stage. But he he may develop into something. Time will tell.

I'd probably prefer to have him on the rookie list than Max King. At least we could then turf Spencer eventually (Sorry Spence I love you and your best is good but it's so infrequent) and have Hannath as the ready to go number 3 ruck. But yes Freo got us. The Saints would've done the same with Frost.

Was there any other information in regards to picks 2 and 3 WJ?? And if not who would be yours picks 2 and 3 going off the info night??

I'll give you an answer to that on the top three picks thread where it more properly belongs given this one's for pick 40.

Safe to say that I'm now more inclined to thinking that we would take McCartin (if available) ahead of Lever.

I wonder if he puts all the DFA's in that list as well.

In other words we could get to say pick 40 and a DFA is the next on our list of available players.

If we could get 3 out of that group by getting 1 as a rookie would be even better!

He also seemed reasonably confident of our ability to be able to pick up a quality player at this pick noting the history of some of the players selected at this level. Todd Viney pointed out that we were very happy to get JKH with 40 last year and of course, we know that Luke Parker went to the Swans in the Lucas Cook draft.

It was fairly clear that we were always going to make way for a pick at 40 but both Taylor and Viney said that the Barry decision caught them by surprise. He returned from the break having done virtually no work and he admitted that over the past year he had lost his passion to play at this level and was more interested in returning to the community he left in the mid teens to pursue an education and perhaps a career in tennis.

High school sports teacher with tennis lessons on the side sounds about right for Barry. Shame he couldn't make that call before he signed a contract. But thankful he did before it's too late. 40 was definitely always in play, but I think Taylor would be glad with 53 as well.

From the outside (and perception is often all that counts) you get judged by how many good players you recruit and how well the team does, not by success rate % so much. Draft a few guns and a few decent players and no one remembers the busts. So 53 is a nice free hit for a recruiter I'd say.

We probably tried. Barry was always "steak knives" - shoulda been his nickname.

Who hadn't played well for years. Port also gave up very little for Jake Neade.

I don't know if GWS would've said no to us for Anderson. We did give them 3 and 13 for Hogan and 20. I would've thought it was reasonable to add a decent set of steak knives to that deal considering what Gold Coast and Adelaide had paid for the other mini draft picks.

If they said no to us and wanted to save Anderson for a separate deal then that's fair enough I guess. But I'd be disappointed if we had our pick of he young Territorians valued between 3rd round/rookie picks and chose Barry over Anderson. Oh well.

I like him. He seems on the rise and with AFL traits. Good ball winner which impresses me as he doesn't just do all the flashy stuff but he can find the footy as well. Would be more than happy with him at pick 40.

Barry was an elite junior player, and came down to Melbourne through the Evonne Goolagong Cawley scheme. He initially went to the tennis high school in Box Hill North, but then got sick of tennis (it's a solitary sport) and went to St Kevin's, where he got interested in football.

We probably know who we will get at 3 and also know a lot about him.

40 could be a surprise with more interest, as not as much is known about him. 53 falls into that category as well.

Will be disappointed if Oscar McDonald goes as suggested by Paige Cardona at 36 to North. We will have missed out by 4 places.

I like the idea of the two brothers at Melbourne.

I am not revisiting pick 23, but rather the MC deal, where I was and remain disappointed, we couldn't get a pick in the 30's, as part of the deal.

Maybe it's the SA thing, out of sight. A lot of the picks (particularly later) were all playing TAC cup.

I don't see too much wrong with his game, natural mid, quick hands in close, works back and forward, good pace and endurance, good kick, strong tackle.
