Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

AFL National Draft 2014 Picks 2 & 3

Unfortunately I think it's far too late to trade players now. Those are the kinds of deals you have to establish in week one so both teams, the player, the player's family, the player's manager, etc. can all mull over their options and agree or disagree to the proposed trade. In our case, we even got PR involved to get fans used to the idea of losing a club favourite with a media release on Friday night. We'd likely do the same if it were Watts or Howe, two fan favourites, next in line for trades.

The only player with currency we were seemingly planning to trade was Trenners, and... well, what more needs to be said about that?

Note that this reply is posted after the trades have closed, but for that does the poster really know that all this behind scenes stuff hasn't been attended to already??

Not sure what to make of Saints keeping pick 1. Riewoldt is "expected" to retire next year according to the HS, so this is their last chance to get a key forward in to train under him.

They either rate Petracca so highly they aren't prepared to give him up, or they were keen on McCartin and had a hunch we'd take them with pick 2 or 3.

Will be interesting if they do take McCartin and we have to choose out of Petracca/Wright/Brayshaw/Lever.

Whatever, I am as sure as night follows day that whomever of Petracca/Wright/Brayshaw/Lever our professional team decide upon, there will be posters here who won't be happy, and will vilify those whose job it is to make these difficult / impossible calls for getting it totally wrong when A players a blinder when B has a downer, or C is injured and D kicks a few, etc etc etc.

Ain't hindsight marvelous!!

Obviously like most of us I would have preferred to bring in an experienced mid. However, at least this time we SHOULD be able to develop them properly.

Here's hoping both of them become A graders (and sticks with us)!!!

So IF Saints took McCartin I dare say we would go Petracca and Brayshaw...but.... if they take Petracca and we went 2 mids, other than Brayshaw who else?

Lever looks good it just seems a real worry to draft someone within the top 10 that has already had a knee reco and is a tall. Anyone else share these reservations?

Absolutely, but every draftee is a risk in one way or another.

Tyson had knee issues and look how good that turned out. Trenners looked great in his first year, now his foot's buggered.

Probably Lever?

Isn't he too tall for a mid? But then again Watts is a mid now so plenty of confidence there!

He probably suits Roos' needs quite well. Tall, can go into the midfield, has played in defence, knows how to run, excellent leadership qualities.

I presume that the club has already got a pretty good idea of who they rate in the top three positions. The will know for sure by draft day and will also know who St Kilda is going to take. I would be amazed if the player St Kilda is going to take is not in our top three. Thus, we will get two of the three best players in the draft, by our own reckoning.

At the moment, I would go -

Petracca

Brayshaw

McCartin

Must take macartin as our ten year full forward and hogan as our CHF. Then with brayshaw as the safe inside mid.

Don't be surprised if Hogan plays a bit back next year also

Considering our cupboard is pretty bare when it comes to players who can take a grab inside-50, I would be extremely surprised if Jesse ventures into the backline at any stage next year.

Well, lets hope that he doesn't need to go there to get a kick :-(

#2 - Petracca / Laverde

#3 - Laverde / Lever

if we draft mids I would like to see them have pace, as for Lever what I have seen and read is enough for me to want him at the footy club.

forward line isn't in too bad a shape for now with the possibility of Petracca pushing Watts up onto the wing if he gets to us

Cam Pederson Jeremy Howe Jack Watts Jesse Hogan Jeff Gartlett Chris Dawes

didn't Judd have a shoulder issues in the year he was drafted?? don't remember it ever being an issue throughout his career.

I'm sure they would do their due diligence before considering him

Tyson's knee wasn't as extreme as a full reco. But you've got a point with Trengove, I guess it's all a risk. It will be interesting!

God I hope Trengove makes it back!

Know for a fact that there has been plenty of work done on Corey Ellis by Taylor and his team. Tall midfielder with a few tricks, but had some injury issues this season. Melbourne have apparently been asking an 'inordinate number' of questions about him.Make of it what you will.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
