CEO of St Kilda on now. Saying the Rewvolt line and the we want someone to replace Lenny. It's been Petracca all year long so why soften the ground for McCartin a couple of days out from the draft?

The saints don't want to miss there chance at a power forward. That's why they offers captain nick 2 more years to train up his replacement. They know big boys don't just come along every year.

Love seeing St Kilda squirm on this and everyone on demonland all on the same page for once.

If the Saints go for Shaun McKernan from Adelaide they may see that as filling a key forward spot. Obviously he's not in the same talent range as McCartin, but McKernan is training with them nonetheless. This might leave them to pick Petracca. There's a plethora of reasonings about who will be picked at 1 and why. Thank god it'll be revealed in a couple of days and the the hard work of player development can begin.

Makes sense for the Saints to pick up McKernan. He can provide the cover for McCartin whilst he develops under the tutelage of the peerless Saint Nick. In a couple of years, the transition will be complete (or so the Saints hope) with Riewoldt retiring gracefully and McCartin accepting the mantle of the new 'go to' KPF and McKernan hanging around to provide protection/2nd option.

Let's just hope:

(a) Hogan receives the same tutelage/protection from Dawes; and

(b) Fitzpatrick/Gawn/Pedersen can provide the 3rd tall option.

Who goes number one was not really on my radar. I have found out today that the reason there is so much conjecture on who we would pick other than Brayshaw, is that the coaching staff want one player, and the recruiting staff are aligned to a different player. My mail was based on what the coaching staff wanted.

I'm getting nervous DE! Starting to worry i have might have made my second avatar blunder. And i will blame you!

I have big shoulders!

I'll humour you for a second and take your word.

Now, if that truly is the case, the coaches should back off and let the recruiters do their job. They are the ones who spend the year travelling around the country scouting these kids; the coaches should only be consulted, not allowed to overturn the decision of a recruiter. Even in the case of Paul Roos.

Brayshaw & McCartin/Petracca. Get it done Melbourne.

Much as I like Wright, there is very little liklihood that we won't pick up Brayshaw (who trained with us last Pre-season) along with whoever the Saints offer us out of McCartin or Petracca!

It is also interesting that I was told the article in the paper the other day about Port Adelaide taking Boak over Sellar was in part because of our dilemma

our midfield is about to get one hell of a boost

Considering we were still the worst midfield in the comp in 2014 despite some small improvement, we should be kissing Saint recruiters for taking McCartin (if they do)

Was never a realistic chance. Time to find a new source of information.

If the Saints go for McCartin, i reckon it's a smart pick (not necessarily the correct one - that will be decided years down the track). Next years draft is meant to be more of a midfield one (plus we will be tied somewhere to Lovett - maybe even our first rounder).

Saints need a KPF and badly, if they ignore it this year, it's going to be 2 years before they get another look at a quality KPF of McCartin's caliber. Good mids are also easier to come by than good KPP's.

Honestly, i'd be equally happy if we went Brayshaw/Petracca or Brayshaw/McCartin, as we obviously need quality all over our list. Bring in McCartin, hopefully our KPF's are in order for a decade. Bring in Petracca, that's hopefully one less good mid we need to find.

Either way (should our recruiting prove successful) we improve areas of our list.

At the start of next season, this will be our group of 21 and unders:

Tyson, Viney, Salem, Toumpas, Petracca/McCartin, Brayshaw, Stretch, Kent, JKH, Hogan, Frost (plus rookies, pick 40 and pick 53).

It's been said before (and backfired spectacularly), but there is plenty of room for optimism when you look at that group.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
