Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

There's been a few mentions of Cameron amongst other threads so it's worthwhile to have a thread dedicated to him.

Roosy has said mids, mids and mids but personally I'm far from content with having Hogan (still yet to play a game) and Dawes (good competitor but underwhelming forward) as our two main forwards next season.

Cameron made All Australian last year and is a competitive beast. He and Hogan would be one of the most delectable two young power forward combo's since Buddy and Roughy started kicking bags for the Hawks.

Forget about Dangerfield. Orchestrate a trade to see Cameron and later picks come to the MFC.

Use our other first round pick on Petracca and top up with a couple FA's and we're on our way.

You would have to give picks 2 and 3 for Cameron at the very least and Petracca will go pick 1.

Any chance of the Giants trading Cameron reduced dramatically after Patton's second knee injury this year but I don't believe it completely out of the realms of possibility.

The Saints need to draft a young forward as a priority and will most likely look at McCartin or Wright. Who knows, they might offer pick 1 up for Cameron..

St.Kilda will go for best available. They have a woeful midfield as well so they will pick Petracca unless McCartin or Wright put on freakishly, sensational displays at the draft combine.

If I was GWS I would be wanting more than pick 1 for him.

Pointless having an all star forward line if the midfield is woeful and turning it over.

I expect Roos will be focused purely on improving our midfield, long before he worries about key forwards. Hogan's practically a brand new player in 2015 anyway.

We need a strong midfield and a strong forward line - It's entirely possible to build all areas of a list.

When Frawley played back this year our forward line was close to useless (and it looks like he is leaving) Dawes is a 3rd forward only and Hogan is a rookie recovering from stress fractures to his back (or such like) We need to start winning games and our improved midfield will need decent targets in order for that to happen.

I say improved midfield because I expect our midfield to be bolstered with ready made talent.

I also expect us to bolster our forward line. That extra key forward may or may not be brought in at the expense of one of our top end draft picks (if we end up with picks 2 & 3) Some creative thinking might have to be involved but given Roos' track record, that creative thinking can happen.

We need to add 5+ goals a game to our best 22 to win matches. 13 goals a game got you in to finals this year (only the top 8 averages 13 or more goals a game), we averaged the least in the league with 8.6.

We need to add 5 goals a game. Hogan will add 1-2. The remaining 3-4 need to come from somewhere. If we're able to trade in 3-4 midfielders good for a goal a game then we're set, otherwise we need to bolster our forwardline. Cameron would add 2-3 goals at a minimum.

Conversely it's pointless having a really good midfield if there's nobody to kick it to. That was proven this year when the players linked up really well and managed to get the pill inside 50 only to have the opposition defenders take it straight back out.

Another pre season into the young mids we have now and we'll see some real improvement under Roos. If it was any other coach I'd have reservations about their ability to impact sooner rather than later but with Roos, Stone, Matthews and now Goodwin on board I think we can get the mids to gel a lot faster and for this reasoning I can't see why we'd not be thinking key forward as a priority.

Everything's changed now that Clark is definitely not playing on at MFC next year. We absolutely have a need for another key forward and should act on it asap.

We need to be better.........everywhere.. We need to bolster all parts of the ground. How many times have we loaded up our hopes/needs into a particular player/fwd only to see it dematerialise overnight. If the opportunity was there to snag Cameron...why wouldnt you.

I dont see it as an either/or thing. If we can get players....all over the field to improve our list...well you do. Its a no brainer.

The other no brainer is that the investment required for Cameron would be huge.

Better spent on his equivalent in the midfield.

Now, if we happen to be able to secure that midfielder with one of the two picks we have in the top 3, then go after Cameron.

But our midfield is the single on field reason we are where we are.

All other lines we are average to above par.

Midfield is still 3rd world.

We definitely need to sort out both our C grade midfield and now D grade forward line. Dawes needs an injury free preseason and HHogan needs games into him. It's a bit of a chicken/egg situation, but I wouldn't waste a million investing in Cameron just yet until we have quality delivery coming through our mids. They're the engine of the team and they're still miles off it.

We desperately need more elite players running through the middle and providing options. Shiel and Danger would be almost all it takes, but that's looking like fantasy mode now.

Our midfield is probably the worst in the comp, but the forward line isn't much better. St Kilda, Brisbane, WB and Carlton are on par with us, pretty much every other team has us covered though.

FF JKH - Hogan - Resting ruck

HF Kent - Dawes - Vince

IMO that's our forward line heading in to 2015. They won't be kicking heaps of goals and when they do it won't be consistent week to week.

Not sure how anyone could watch Hodge, Lewis and Mitchell on Saturday and think that our early picks would be well spent on a key forward.

I'm not sure how anyone could watch the Sydney midfield and think that our early picks would be well spent on mids.

The simple logic is that you can find star midfielders anywhere in the draft, star key forwards are only found in the first round.

Yeah and if you missed it, Roughy bagged 5.

Ed: and rotated thru the guts rucking and roving.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
