Guest Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 No problem with that speech. Let him be proud. Pride in ourselves and our history is something we seriously lack
DeeSpencer 26,717 Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Disagree with you on this one sweet. Rarely is it possible to put the terms "highly articulate" and "footballer" on the same page let alone when referring to one. Heritier spoke honestly and proudly and .... if that's what his name means .... so be it. Bitter but optimistic, that's a name that means something. Heritier Jinglebells Loserville Tupac Lumumba. Whatever the hell that means I have no idea how a football club let you find 'true meaning' from it. There's a fine line between spiritual and mad. I hope he's still on the right side of it.
faultydet 7,623 Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 I really don't see what the issue is? Here we have a person who has come from a disturbing background but has managed somehow to turn himself into a respectful person with integrity and strong values. Yeah I love a laugh at the pathetic things in life, but here we have an afl footballer who isn't all about going to the Barkley on a sunday night trying to pull birds bragging about afl stardom. We have a bloke who sticks up for what he feels is right. Sure, he can come across a little self-righteous, but in a day and age where the youth aren't of sound moral fibre, he is prepared to be a good role model and get on the front foot to use his status as an afl footballer to try to better those who look up to him. Anyone with an issue with a person who wants a peaceful and respectful earth should have a good look at themselves before casting rocks at someone like heritier. A "little" self righteous? Blokes dont play football to save the world. They just enjoy being paid to play a game they love. (And maybe pull more chicks than they otherwise would) This sort of carry on can affect the locker room, and thats the last thing we need. I'm hoping he plays good footy, and keeps his stupid mouth shut. What a [censored].
daisycutter 30,027 Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 he might be a good project for mrs pr
DeeZee 7,496 Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 I wonder where the name thing came from? Was it his original birth name, or did he make it up himself? Funny.....as I was typing this I was thinking of how many times the Collingwood fans would have discussed exactly the same topic.

Funny.....as I was typing this I was thinking of how many times the Collingwood fans would have discussed exactly the same topic. Heritier is his birth name. Since he came in to the league it's always been his official name he just used to go by Harry. I believe O'Brien was his step fathers name and his birth father is obviously Lumumba. No idea about the middle names.
P-man 13,367 Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 The last line was a bit much. The Prince who has the last laugh and is gifted? Settle down H. If he plays decent footy for us, he can say whatever the hell he likes.
John Crow Batty 8,895 Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 I wonder where the name thing came from? Was it his original birth name, or did he make it up himself? Funny.....as I was typing this I was thinking of how many times the Collingwood fans would have discussed exactly the same topic. I reckon he has named himself after Patrice Lamumba, an African independence hero revered somewhat like Che Guevera. He was executed by colonial powers in 1961 so can't be his real father though there is a possibility they may be related. His real father is supposedly named Lamumba. Some of the language here is getting to close to the bone for racism. Many forget despite his quirks he appears well liked by his teamates and no doubting he is an accomplished footballer. And anyway why is his schtick worse than what most other footballers say in public? All canned cliches that say or mean nothing and hide their true feelings. At least this guy seems to mean what he says and bucks the stereotype. Even the most jerk footballers are trained to sound like nice guys.
Deespicable 2,886 Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 He'll be paid a princely sum by us I'm guessing. I hope he cuts back on the finger pointing - unless he aims most of it at Jack Watts.

He speaks honestly and from the heart, it won't always hit the mark and maybe to some he sounds ridiculous. I suspect most of us would sound ridiculous if we spoke all of what we felt. I look forward to meeting the bloke.
Sambo06 222 Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Come on down HL!!!! Give us run and carry. Don't care about anything else. If Roosy thinks he's good enough for us, I'm in!!!!!
P-man 13,367 Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Saty will love this bloke. The club really should warn all new arrivals about Saty.
InVINCEable 358 Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Heriter Lumumba is the Kanye West of AFL.

Heritier spoke honestly and proudly and .... if that's what his name means .... so be it. He spoke of what he believes in; forget the words of formed sentences & take the intent the theme is whats important. He stands for the underprivileged & for equity & justice. A fine example of a person who stands on his principles. glad he's coming over to us.

jumbo returns 6,745 Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 I thought he was great.....gave the club a bit of a dig for losing its way and values. Can't wait to watch him play for us.

Adam The God 30,768 Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Dee-L, love your posts son, but I can't decipher this one.....DL means, will the Pies be in the wilderness for the next 50 years? Is this a turning point? There certainly seems to have been a changing of the guard with Hawthorn's rise to powerhouse. If Buckley stays much longer they could well be in the wilderness for 5-10 years, at least mid table anyway.
