Nev Jetta signs new 2 year contract

I seem to recall it was Rawlings who showed the belief and convinced Roosy to keep him on the Rookie list

I only have what Nev and Rawlings told me, Nev's last six games at Casey last year included being in the best six each time and BOG once.

He was told that he was delisted but because of those six games he would be given a chance on the rookie list if he was interested, Rawlings pushing his case

Because he had no operations to get through for the first time ever he continued to train right through the break and turned up on the first day of pre season in the best shape he had ever been in, got through his first complete pre season

Started at Casey, decided that going forward with Roos emphasis on role playing, that Nev would play where he always wanted to play as a small defender/halfback......banged the door down at Casey until he got into the AFL side on the back of others long term injuries...rest is history

Would assume he is one of the first picked at the moment, and rewarded with a new 2 year contract

There is no shame in "getting it wrong" when judging players. AFL recruiters do it all the time and they know much more than we do and they have so much more information.

What I dislike is the bitterness and bile that gets thrown at these players by people who have probably never reached anything like that players level of expertize. To them footballers are some sort of comic book heroes that owe the supporter some sort of joy. When they fail to deliver many act like spoilt little boys who lash out and throw a fit.

I also just love it when a player like Nev "makes" it. Against the odds and with some limitations in what he can do he's now become a very important part of the team and a very valuable contributor. And these same people who throw the bile and bitterness in the direction of players like Jetta now rejoice with no sense of how hypocritical they are and no thought that perhaps they should rethink how they judge players in future.

Well done to Nev in particular because this thread is about you but also well done to players like Ricky Petterd, Jamie Bennell and Stef Martin who are establishing careers at other club "against the odds".

Well said.

I have no problem with people being wrong on players - we all are - I just really hate the term 'clogger' and terms like it and the nonsense it implies about the people that are described in such a way.

My inference is that Jetta was never a 'clogger' and that his emergence should make people pause about how they regard players.

Haven't heard a lot from him in the past. Sounds like a terrific, grounded and professional young bloke who will be a great leader and example for years to come.

Thought he was terrific last week - had that one grab coming back with the flight in front of Roughy which was hugely impressive!

just the very use of the word clogger is De-humanising, imo.

call them slow, call them timid, call them lazy, all human traits, but to relegate a players person to clogger is materialistic in the extreme. itsn not a public companies shares we're talking about ; Its a footy club we should be thinking in terms of. And the people around the club.

-----

also IMO we have a culture of soft at our club from way back, in our work efforts, & the way the club treats itself like an over indulgent being, & without enough successes of late since we raised the drawbridge & locked out the unwashed infadels. who are of our own & won't hurt us anyway

we are successfully destroying ourselves by our exclusion.

Just realised I'd never heard Jetta talk before. Sounds way different to I had imagined.

Much deeper voice and more confident. Sounds like a tough back pocket, plays like a tough back pocket

Actually he hates being interviewed, prefers his footy to do the talking, you notice it is slow and considered, thinks before he speaks so he doesn't say anything wrong, got a very dry sense of humour away from the camera

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
