Aside from a 10+ goal loss, how much worse could today have been?

Sun, no wind at all, for 51 points.

Our opponent didn't score, not once, for 30 minutes. At the end of that period we led by just 7.

We had a 14 point lead 7 minutes into the fourth quarter, to lose by 23. A 37-point turnaround in 25 minutes.

We lose our 19th consecutive game at Etihad.

We had more of the ball, again, but just 34 inside 50s.

This is a negative. This is a step backwards.

And to think there are people who think we have nothing to lose in these last 5 games.

Handball receives in the last quarter: 4-20 in Brisbane's favour.

Maybe a tad that's due to injuries but mainly that's due to going into our shells when we took the 14 point lead. We were not able, or willing, to attack the game when we should have been throwing everything at a chance to end this ridiculous losing streak and get a morale-boosting win.

Pathetic , incompetents, weak willed effort. Never want to see Bail, McKenzie, Blease, Tapscott again. Almost added Watts to that list - I'm over him.

Screw the negative, of which there are plenty, I'll name a few positives:

Jeremy Howe was terrific across half back.

Nev Jetta was also excellent down there, gave Green a bath.

Our efficiency once Inside 50 was good.

Our backline, for the first three quarters, was resolute until being overrun in the last.

Dom, Vince and Jones all worked hard as well.

Plenty to whinge about but the only thing that sticks out to me is that guys like Tapscott and Blease are being given a run and showing why they need to be moved on. I'm totally ready for this year to be over and can't wait to get stuck into the pre-season.

Pathetic. Abysmal. Embarrassing. Take your pick.

I can't remember being angrier watching a game this season. The number and nature of the mistakes was beyond explanation.

I've come to the conclusion that many of our players aren't good enough and if some of our better players have an off day we are hopeless. Cross is missed very badly.

The fact that I have taken this long to realized it means that I am not very smart!

Must of them try their guts out out. Most of them aren't good enough... All we can do is trust in PR.

Surely we now know enough about Tapscott and Blease?

McKenzie was on Hanley today. Hanley had 24 touches, 5 tackles and 1.1. McKenzie missed a goal from 10 metres out.

He's not good enough.

2 weeks off and we serve up that rubbish

6 goals vs the Lions in in perfect conditions in our home town

This playing group STILL dont give a [censored] about the club, and the supporters

Makes me sick. Jack Watts zero tackles until the final minutes. Must be traded, he is useless.

And now we can get some more high draft picks to throw down the drain like we do every season. How exciting.,..

A little flat are we Hoges?

Can't kick, looking at you Terlich, McDonald, McKenzie, Bail, Garland.

All terrible hacks of the football.

Seriously if Bail and Terlich are playing next year we will still finish bottom four then.

A little flat are we Hoges?

yeah just a little, i take it you missed the game and the final score?

Horrendous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Crud football team.

Soft efforts, terrible skills from repeat offenders.

Please make it stop.

I agree about McKenzie. I would be horrified if blokes in the leagues I'm involved in missed from there.

The only good thing is that we can see clearly who can't/won't do what they are coached to do.

Didn't watch it all but I want to question what has happened to Garland? Yeah missed some pre-season but he wouldn't get a game at another club the way he has been playing.

Our defence fell apart in the last. Vince made some terrible blunders in the last quarter and a half. JKH fumbled terribly.

We really are bad. Big clean out required. Sayonara Chip.

The future is bright. For the Lions.

Good mix of inside and outside players, some interesting KPP's. Close to me looks like everything Jack Watts wasn't in his second year.

Today I gave up on Melbourne. I also don't think Roos is that great of a coach. There is nothing exciting about the way we play.

Id love to know what Pau Roos 'non negotiable' are and how Jack Watts continues to get a game

yeah just a little, i take it you missed the game and the final score?

No mate. I listened to it (other commitments and hate Etihad) but now prefer to live in a state of total denial.

Supporting the Dees is like having to submit to a weekly sand enema. The experiance leaves you with a good case of the [censored], an irritated anus and the perplexing feeling as to why does this keep on happening.. Ha grab your ankles and grit your teeth!! Go DEES!

Edit was for Schpelling

Players today who have all but had their papers stamped: McKenzie, Bail, Terlich, Tapscott.

Blease and Watts are hanging by a thread.

Yes, Watts. Over it.

The only good thing is that we can see clearly who can't/won't do what they are coached to do.

Didn't watch it all but I want to question what has happened to Garland? Yeah missed some pre-season but he wouldn't get a game at another club the way he has been playing.

We really are bad. Big clean out required. Sayonara Chip.

This is the key part for me. Roos didn't get the chance to see this over pre-season, and now he's had 2014 to see who can cut it and who can't. He will be ruthless, no doubt about it.

Time and time again we giveaway the lead. Same thing happened against Port Adelaide. Dean Terlich, master of turnovers. Hand passes should be banned. I wonder what the coaches tell them during match reviews. Sick of losing and sick of seeing players we traded playing good footy.

I'm sad. Sad for the club.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
