GAME DAY - Round 19

Featured Replies

Posted

It's been more or less seven years since we last won a home and away game at Etihad Stadium although I think it might have been called something else then. At least today, I reckon the roof might be open and the players may not remember that it's the place where they've stuffed up on numerous occasions.

Actually, when I think about it we should have won twice there this year. The first time we were decimated of ruckmen and key forwards, lost two players early and kicked 10 behinds in a row and the second time, the result could have gone either way after we suffered some early lapses.

We want 100 minutes (or however many there are in a game these days) to win it today.

watts to play back again and dominate the game, McKenzie to keep Rockliff to 18 touches

Has anyone else had a bit of their enthusiasm for watching footy sapped away by this two week break from watching Melbourne play?

Does anyone know if my MCC/MFC Platinum membership card admits me to todays game?

Anyone know if the top level will be open?

Further to this, does anone know if the Redlegs memberships allow entry to level 1 if the 3rd level is open? Or is it just general admission? I've asked the question on twitter to both the club and etihad but yet to get a reply.

I say a typical Melbourne "lay down sally" Demons loss, where we loose it in the last 5 minutes today!

Sorry everyone, just saw it on thier match day info. All MFC members get level 1 GA in aisles 1, 2, 3, 4, 46, 47 and 48. Hope this is helpful to others.

I will lose the plot if we lose another game after leading in time on of the last qtr.

That would be nice but Hanley is the one we really need to curtail, his possessions are the ones that hurt. Cut him out and we will go along way to winning today.

Haha I wouldnt get stuck into this book then!

Really gutted I can't go today (or the rest of the year for that matter!) but I really just want a win for the boys today and the huge crowd that's going to turn up!

On that subject, if you're on the fence about going, just do it! It's a nice day (rare thing currently) and I'd love to hear that we made a lot of noise at that terrible place!

Agree with the sentiment - though unfortunately with that ground it doesn't really matter. A nice degree can be sub-arctic inside!

JKH as the sub is just crazy, I do not understand this at all.

We could have made anyone the sub and there would still be people unhappy about it. It's the Demonald way every week.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Melbourne look like a far better team when he is playing.

Down from Sydney for the weekend. Looking forward to watching today's game live.

20 mins from kickoff and an almost empty train.... One of the rare advantages of being a Demon!

Hoodoo breaking day ahead, enjoy!

i really liked dean kent as sub. he had a great impact against port 2 weeks ago. JKH should start IMO.

The roof better be open today.

I reckon it's worse open on a bright sunny day, can be impossible to see the footy at times!

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
