Post Match Discussion - Round 17

If they're giving Tapscott a go, then yes.

Disagree with this. I feel like there were even patches in today's ordinary effort, where we regained some ascendancy and settled into the game.

We had periods where we controlled the play in the first and second quarters but similar to last week we couldn't convert that into goals. I thought we actually controlled the play for a big part of the first quarter but only kicked 2 points and a couple out on the full.

All I can say is that it's the only live game I'll be able to see in 2 years (overseas the last 12 months and heading back again shortly) so mightily dissappointed with what was dished up today. Was expecting at least a good contest but was bored shitless for most of it. Let's hope when I'm back in a years time things will be on the up!

Roos hit the nail on the head when talking about a lack of team offense and players stopping to have a rest once the ball was in our hands

Team offense just seems a foreign concept as it has for several years. It seems to be all about getting the ball out of congestion to a free man and then hitting the pause button while the sod with the ball in his hands looks up and sees a bunch of players standing still. He then eventually kicks it to an outnumbered contest and the ball quickly comes back the other way.

I think it's another example of how ingrained the problems were in this club, and how hard it is for Roos and co. to fix them.

There are significant mental and cultural issues at this club which aren't all gone yet. This is one of them. We're so defeatist that we aren't yet used to hunting in packs, to being confident in one another and to not thinking about the next turnover. That's why players like McKenzie don't leave their man, they're too afraid of being burned on the turnover.

Mckenzie doesn't leave his man because he is tasked as a tagger. The rest of the post I agree with. Roos has not yet gotten rid of the scared rabbit behaviour and the interminable waiting before kicking the ball from a mark or free kick until the opposition has time to man up and then the ball is kicked to an impossible contest and turned over. Frawley is a master of this.

a few years back that would have been a 150 point loss. Halfway through the 2nd quarter if someone said you would only lose by 66 Id gladly have taken that.

Viney was brilliant and even got under the skin of some cats players. cannot wait to watch him in years to come

Riley was great and I hope he plays out the year

Garland did a great defensive job on Bartel keeping him really quiet

Dawes battled hard and its difficult when you have 2 on you

Watts is always an easy target from fans when we lose. Yes it wasnt his best but he had friends that were also in the same category

Frawley proved today no club will pay him 700-800 grand

Also we just couldnt stick our tackles where as geelong did

You obviously either wern't there or you spent the game in the bar Please be realistic The Dees are a Joke and Cats just played with us

Frawley needs to spend the rest of the year up in our forward line, preferably at FF. This way his poor performances are likely to be less notices and have little impact on his compensatory value, if he stays in the backline we will be lucky to get a round 2 draft pick for him. Frawley has always had a casual approach to his football in the backline which has often resulted in turnovers or him getting caught. Our game today was pretty bad, but given the the Cats dominance i am surprised that the loss was so little. Yes they could have kicked straighter but they didnt. Riley did some excellent things, a hard nut to help out viney and N Jones is what we need. Until our midfield can hold its own with the opposition without having an extra man in on the ball we will always have trouble scoring. A couple more decent midfielders and half forwards will hopefully allow us next year to keep numbers in our forward line even that should make it easier for Dawes and hopefully hogan.

We will he be having another list clean out at the end of the year, how many years in a row have we been doing that now. Hopefully we can get some decent trades and draft picks, though there is always the possibility that we can pick up a couple of older senior players who may not be getting games at their clubs that will work for us, ala Cross.

James Frawley should probably go now. I'm not sure if he's the dumbest footballer in the league but, off the top, I'm struggling to come up with another unfortunately.

No Just DUMB!!!

All you needed to say was 'Other team better...'

Simple really.

Doesn't matter if they're better, as professional sportsmen they can still provide the EFFORT. Talent and skill is one thing but effort and will to run hard are another completely.

Other teams lose and play poorly but I rarely see another club put in so many consistently LISTLESS performances. Its been going on for [censored] years and it does my head in. I knew we'd lose today but what I wanted to see is whT sort of effort we put in and how hard Geelong had to work for the points. How can we just roll up and go through the motions so consistently? Its so obvious even someone who has rarely ever watched the sport before can see it. As professionals they should be absolutely ashamed to dish up that kind of pathetic effortless [censored].

Saty feel free to print out this post and hand it out to the players at training this week.

Ffs, this is a FOOTY FORUM - there will be discussion! Further, we all watch footy and most will know a good player when they see one.

Stop blindy posting blue sky commentary.

I also find your training reports creepy - there, I've said it.

We need players who love the contest, and can win the contested footy. This automatically rules out a number of players currently on our list.

Frawley can take all the time he needs to make up his mind playing on the reserves. Time to send a message.

Why dont you discuss the post instead of attacking the poster. He's not far wrong, I don't see us getting much out of a Watts trade he's just far too soft, I've never seen someone on a footy field so consistently scared of copping any contact, you'd think he was a haemophiliac or something.

I'm still here jack. Unfortunately, so are you. Watts is a very good player playing in an ordinary side. Supply has been awesome into our forward line hasn't it. By playing Watts, Salem, Kent etc up there, we risk crucifying potentially good careers.

Yep....the three Cs....contest, competitive and combative.

Our list has 4 who fit this bill.....the real skipper, Tyson, Viney and Dawes. That means we gotta find 18 more....

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
