How is it funny to suggest that players are going to struggle because of disturbed schoolgirls coming to training at a university during the day looking to have sexual relationships with them? It smears women generally ('types'), smears the players (that they'd be, as a group, out for illegal and amoral sex with a child), smears the Uni...

The more subtle level is that the Uni is full of attractive girls that are going to be interested in rooting players and that the players are going to struggle with that. Logically, the players are in that environment, as much as it exists, already. We know that sexual universe for AFL players can be...different. training location really doesn't do much to influence that. So the premise that changing locations will somehow increase this is forehead-whacking daft.

I think it's a great idea. The Uni of Melbourne is a leading, actually, it's THE leading university it Australia. It is rich with history, and (in it's own category) it IS Melbourne. There are a lot of similarities between the Uni of Melbourne and the MFC.

It will give us exposure to a whole new potential membership base, where the "local members" won't have to drive an hour out the road to feel part of the club.

Universities like the Uni of Melbourne attract experts of their field. For us to have access to some of these experts, through sports science/medical/etc is potentially a massive boost that our FD could have access to, without the need to spend millions of dollars getting it.

Is it building our "Melbourne" brand in the CBD? Well, it aint a Collins Street address, so I guess not directly. But learning from an organisation that leverages the word "Melbourne" in their name on an international level is something that we could benefit from.

I'll watch this space, but I'm very interested with the initial reports, and look forward to hearing about this in more detail.

The University of Melbourne arguably have a history of taking over or being given other institutions and then using the resources for what best suits them, not the previous institution. Eg. VCA, Melbourne State Teachers College, Burnley Horticulture, the old Women's Hospital. They own a sht load of real estate in Parkville and Carlton. They'd love a new gym, pool, sports science facilities, but footy isn't their core business, and they would have little ongoing concern for the future of the Melbourne Football Club. Not saying they would take us over, just that upgrading facilities and infrastructure would be a much higher priority to them than little old us.

I know for a fact that Chip Frawley is very keen to enroll in rocket science. Might get him over the line

Simple solution would be for the MCC Yarra Park Trust to give Richmond FC their marching orders and paint the Punt Road oval social facilities red and blue!

I note that while Elvis might have left the building, his manager is now writing stories for the MFC.

No, it won't lead to 16,000 foreign students becoming MFC members tomorrow, but it could have all sorts of less tangible benefits, including helping ensure we don't get relocated to the Northern Territory or whatever.

So are you saying a memorandum of understanding could potentially stop us from being reallocated? (If it were ever suggested by the AFL).

If the AFL ever wanted to move the MFC a memorandum of understanding with a university would hold no weight whatsoever.

It's basically a feel good, nothing more. May or may not have some benefits.
