Phoenix's Football Sharemarket Game

TGR

Recommended Posts

An old ology foe Phoenix ran this Sharemarket game. Was good. He was loud and smart...when he had funds. Haven't heard much from him since Morton plunged from $8 to 8c. Last seen selling at 22c after the dead-cat-bounce when the Eagles got him at pick 88.

Buying -

Nik Nat

Cam Guthrie

Collingwood (bought them super cheap after round 1)

Jack Watts (because MFC supporters are giving him away, and I hope he has Chronic Fatigue Syndrome now)

Brodie Grundy (bought these a while ago)

Jack Viney (price is still cheap because many here think he can't kick);

McEvoy

Matthew Lloyd

Selling -

Richmond (I sold them after our NAB Challenge game)

Liam Sheils (I will take what you offer), Phoenix, you can still play with $8.64

Bomb Thompson (I sold him a few weeks ago),

Luke Breust (good goal assists, but soft and overrated),

North Melbourne (still too hot/cold),

Neville Jetta (sold after his first game of AFL footy, and now selling the gains over the past week);

Bernie Vince (stats sheet looks better than his output)

Dermott

Biggest losses over the preseason

Port - I sold them too cheaply

Freo - I bought too much

I'll buy:
Sydney - surely due to bounce back in the 8 and push for the 4

Jordie McKenzie - still have hope he can contribute and must be cheap

Kurt Tippett - the other of Sydney's million dollar forwards to give us something

Mitch Clisby - rate this guy and he's due a chance

Tom Lynch's (Gold Coast and Adelaide) - buying a package deal

Jake Carlisle - this guy can play. Might have to wait for Bomber to go to collect my return but I think it will come eventually

I'll sell

Nick Riewoldt - surely he's at his max value

Ross Lyon - I'm a bit worried about where Freo are heading. If they don't get it done this year when will they? And do coaches get 3rd chances without a flag?

I'm holding

Dom Tyson - think his shares will dive down a bit as the year progresses but still like him long term

Jesse Hogan - got to have faith

Back in 1974 or 75 a client of mine got a so called "red hot tip" that a takeover bid for the Phillip Morris company was imminent. He borrowed heaps of money (mortgaged his house) and invested it in the shares and I spent the next 12 months keeping an eye on the price in the afternoon Herald. He sold the shares 12 months after the borrowing and made a small loss. He incurred interest payments, legal and government fees etc. in the process which ensured he made close on a 30% loss all up on an investment of $30k which was a lot of money. I remember it to this day and am not a player in share markets or other forms of gambling etc. (that don't rely on my own skills) But geez, I wish I would have gotten onto Christian Salem for the rising star last week.

Shame WJ. You could've made a killing in the 80's.

Don't like Salem's chances of the rising star. It does look an even crop of midfielders led by Dunstan, Crouch, Kelly and Aish. But I think they have a fitness and readiness edge over Salem not to mention the edge in games.

I think the value remains Brodie Grundy at $17. When the selectors sit down at the end of the year they'll have to decide not who just played good games but who actually had influence and I think they'll settle on Grundy having achieved more holding up the ruck in a good side than midfielders not having spectacular seasons.

I'll buy your Jetta shares.

They went up after the game obviously. Good call if it was before the best game of his career. You can still have them, but the price is cheap now, not dirt-cheap like last week.

I'll take all the Vince shares available, if you can't see his worth then I'll get them cheap and make a packet.

Never bought any Nic Nat shares but if I can get my hands on some I'll parcel them up with the London Bridge and do a special deal for you.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
