Anyone get down to the open training session this morning?

I happened to drive past and stopped for a few minutes but while there were plenty of support staff around setting up witches hats etc there were no players......that was at 10am - half an hour after the scheduled start.....

keen for any updates?? Anyone??

Are you sure the witches hats weren't the players? It wouldn't be the first time they've been mistaken..

I thought that line would come out when I when I wrote the post!

I went this mornning

Jordie McKenzie trained before the main group for about 45 minutes and then left, didn't seem restricted, ran, kicked, jumped etc

Main group arrived at 10:30 and went till about 12:40

Most of the drills have been seen before, all about match simulation, running, leading, kicking etc, Roos had them in to talk at tleast half a dozen times, great to see

Towards the end the rucks Jamar, Fitzy, Gawn, King and Spencer did some separate work with Greg Stafford for about 15 minutes, after George Stone had had the midfield group; demonstrating where to stand etc with the aid of witches' hats etc, it was good to watch him teaching

Previous to that Spencer's session had conisted of sitting on the fence talking to a trainer and lying on the ground for 15 mintures, gods knows what a St Kilda spy if they were watching would have made of that

Dawes and Hogan were no shows, everybody else seemed to be in attendance

To show that players, who are supposedly shielded from the media/forum comments etc, actually know what is thought of them, Jack Trengove was in brigh fluro orange boots, I said they looked frightening, his answer "I have to look as if I am fast"

Had a good chat to Jack Viney, suggested he wear a helmet, said this concussion was not his fault, had his arms pinned and hit his head on the ground, had to have a light week, no contact, because it was his second concussion of the pre season, tests he had to take were even more stringent, says he is about 2 weeks behind most of the squad in fitness and preparation, asked about the thought of him playing with Aiden Riley in the middle for Casey as he catches up, you can guess the answer. Another who loves Roos, respects that because he is young, Roos wants him to fight to earn his place in the team

Spoke to Christian Salem, about Manchester United, Olympiakos, Arsenal and Everton...refreshing.....then watched him kick...it is a thing of beauty

Asked Dom Tyson to get 30 touches on Saturday, Fitzy had said 35, said he was glad to know he was under no pressure to perform

From what I can see/guess/surmise the 25 will be in no particular order Frawley, McDonald, Grimes, Georgiou, Terlich, Dunn, Nicholson, Tyson, Vince, Cross, Nathan Jones, Matt Jones, Howe, Fitzpatrick, Pedersen, Watts, Toumpas, Trengove, Byrnes, Michie, Bail, JKH, Blease, Evans, McKenzie/Kent

Any questions feel free to ask.

In terms of the drills, who stood out?

How do Salem and Toumpas compare and contrast in size and skill?

They actually don't compare, Toumpas gut runs, Salem uses his kicking, I am surprised at how quickly Salem is developing physically

On physical things one of the most impressive things was Jayden Hunt gut running flat out for about 100 metres with Tommy Mc trying to keep up, he ended up about a metre and half behind

Just clarifying, what exactly are you saying about Salem's running?

There is nothing wrong with Salem's running

Just main difference I can see personal opinion, Salem reads the play, knows where to go and then uses his kicking

Toumpas works and works making position

Two completely different type of players....In the future Pendlebury (Salem) Swan (Toumpas)

If that makes sense

What's Toumpas like in terms of tackling and physical drills?

Hey Saty, good to meet you last Friday. I'm back in Sydney.

Does this mean Jamar did full training or if not what did he do. Does he look like he's going to be ready to pay any time soon.

Jamar was looking fine, seems to be still on a program, at one point left main field to run a lap or two around another, he was very pleased with his GPS figures after speaking to the guy monitoring, so barring anything unforseen, I would say another week or two

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
