Colin Sylvia

Roos said he wanted Col to stay, like Clark was our best footballer, Chip is doing everything required etc. etc.

You never take what Roos says about these things as being gospel, you watch what happens. Silvia...gone, Clark...gone, Frawley...gone and all without a major effort from us to keep them.

I think Roos got what he wanted.

totally agree with this Roos has been very smart reshaping this list

We missed out on trading Trengove but that was nobodies fault.

He walked out on the club, he's not the only one.

He hasn't been able to put in enough hard work to succeed in the AFL. He's not the only one.

Wow, must be a tool.

He's actually a hell of a nice guy.

Potshots from behind your computer. Nice work hero.

yeah nah

Shame with Col, has all the tools but one to be a good player. That tool is the scone on his shoulders!

What would his mother say?

The door is open!

Just threw up in my mouth despite your sarcasm.

Out of curiosity where else would you throw up?

Will be delisted at years end , bloke will be laughing all the way to the bank . Source at the Docker's believe its just short of 1.2Million over 3 years.

In Roos we trust

Allen, lighten up. If anyone thinks that I'm describing Colin Sylvia as a tool for making one throwaway line like that I apologise.

But I'm quite happy to say a person who has a professional career and cannot do the fundamentals like turn up in an appropriate condition, who runs away from a car accident in a city where every move of a professional footballer is scrutinised and who has been in trouble with the law for a domestic issue...is a tool. He might be a nice guy, but that doesn't change things. He has a gift and hasn't been using it to his best advantage. That's my definition of a tool.

He is a massive underachiever due to his lack of work ethic and high opinion of himself.

Rule #1: The Doctor Lies.

ask big maxy

Ha ha on T$!

Lyon is probably right for pointing the finger at the Dees for Cols poor fitness but where is their due diligence?

He came back post Christmas break in poor physical condition and admitted to not following his training regime and "enjoying himself"... Think this is all on Col

Yes but he turned up for his first preseason way below par. Can't believe the Dockers were caught by surprise. But I agree he is to blame for throwing his career away.

Q: What do Ross Lyon and Colin Sylvia have in common?

A: They were both looking for the 'sylvia' lining...

And Terlich got re-signed.

In all seriousness, I'm not sure Roos was desperate to keep Terlich, but rather he wanted to ensure the kids have to earn their spot before they come into the side.

Terlich may not be the best kick, but Roos is playing the long game, and a kid won't get a game until they can consistently exhibit at least the same level of toughness and commitment that Terlich does.

It's about making the kids force their way in, not waltz into the side Round 1 (and this is different again to being "gifted" games early).

Now we can look back and at least give a partial credit to Brock McLean. Less talent. Less pace. Bigger buttock. Bigger engine?

Both bog ordinary in the largely talentless draft of 2003. What a talent train wreck.

I am sure you take media comments with a grain....

But you would not expect any other type of comment in public.

FWIW, Roos has been outspoken on FA.

Roos has been around long enough to read flaky characters like the above like a book.

We did the same with Byron Pickett in 2006/07

We did get a good year out of Byron.....

In his time here he eventually struck me as a player who looks fit, like he does the exercises and works hard in the ways where he can physically look good. But that same application couldn't be harnessed to train for things that will make him a better player. The fit physique and his natural ability, it was enough to consistently get games here.

Going to Fremantle and what has occurred basically confirms my theory. It'd be interesting to see him bounce back from this but it doesn't look likely.

i think ross said he would actually review the recruiting of Col. I bet he went to the recruiting officer and said what the hell did you get this guy for.

I think you are on to it Carlos. I think Col has just done what he has done every year with MFC. Happy to work in the gym on his physique but less likely to do the endurance work. He was always carrying something in preseason and that is when the real endurance work is done. This was tolerated at MFC as well as his habit of showing up occasionally under the weather. We should have called it earlier but then I remember the bloke we did act on many years ago for being [censored] at training, Martin Pike! Big mistake there by Balmy.

Col reminds me of Jackovitch. The Ox often relates the story of Jacko saying he was injured preseason and couldn't train but would then do some unbelievable things while playing cricket. The biggest difference between Jacko and Col is that Jackovitch had genuine X factor, mega talent. Col I have never been convinced of. Physically yes if he worked hard but mentally he can often be a dumb footballer.

Rod Owen?

I thought he turned over a new leaf when he same to us. He was great for the first 6 games, got injured and went straight back to his old ways. For a few minutes I thought we had struck gold.

You only have to look at his instagram and see he still enjoys the night life and pigs out at fancy resturants ever second night with his missus.
