Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

There's something wrong with the poll... I can't find James Magner's name on there.

I will add him if you really insist. I know that he was a favourite of yours!

Jetta - for me

Would like it to be Harmes (like the look of him) but I think we should take it very slowly with all the new draftees (as annoying as that is).

King - long way off.

Georgiou - wasn't thrilled with this selection (rather youth - more potential) but have not seen him play yet so can't really judge him.

We can play rookies in the Nab cup right? Because that's all that King, Georgiou and Harmes would really need (a small stint in the Nab cup followed by a year in VFL)

Give Georgiou a go I say!

I really dont think Jetta is up to AFL personally.

Harmes needs to run in the twos for now.

From what I also read is that max King needs 2 years before he's ready with a mans physique.

I went Harmes. Have never seen him play and know only what I have read on here about him. Would rather take a punt and see what he can do after knowing exactly what Jetta does.

Have seen enough of Jetta to realise he won't make it. Has been tried up forward, down back and for some runs in the centre and I struggle to see what some people see in him. Is slow, not overly skilful and has similar 'fake toughness' symptoms to Dunn. Anyone can bump someone late or dump an unexpecting player in a tackle.

King is only there for ruck insurance.

Georgiou is only there for key defenders insurance.

A direct quote from Jade Rawlings, I asked him, paraphrasing of course....."Nev did enough in his last six games for Casey (this included two best on ground for Casey) to warrant another chance, never had a consistent run at it, knows exactly what he has to do to continue"

Nev's best position is half back flank, not midfield, not small defender, not forward, this is where he has been told he will be playing this year

Aww you're just bragging cause he is your fave

I wish him all the best and hope he really becomes a top grade player but I can't see it honestly.

Anyone can play HBF. Half back is by far the easiest spot on the ground and we seem to have a queue of players wanting to play it in Grimes, Dunn, Clisby & Strauss (basing this on Garland & Terlich being the B/Ps) and I imagine Cross will rest on the half back line at times. I'd say the Toump may get a crack there as well this year.

Everyone has there favourites (for some unknown reason I'm a Tappy fan so I can't say much) but I really can't see Nev getting much of a go.

Prove me wrong Nev, prove me wrong!!

Adelaide would have to feel pretty silly wouldn't they?

We put him on the LTI list meaning we place him on the back burner until he is back to full fitness and proves he is ready to be promoted back to the main list. How is this different to being rookie listed?

This is something Adelaide could have done and avoided exposure to the risk of losing him.

Trying to be too clever and get another live pick in the ND I think.

King - miles away, no.

Harmes - maybe give him a shot in the NAB cup but I'd be shocked and also disappointed if he's in the team as a back up mid/forward from day 1.

So it comes down to Jetta and Georgiou.

Right now locked in for our defense would be Frawley, McDonald and Grimes. The other 3 spots will come from Garland (if he's back in time) and then take your pick of Dunn, Clisby, Terlich, Strauss and guys like Jetta and Georgiou. So I'd give them a shot in the NAB challenge to see if the make it but I doubt it. Dunn's 2013 whilst full of usual Dunn mindless football should still be good enough to have him in front of Georgiou. And the same can be said about Terlich and Clisby for Jetta.

I think a lot of us have a soft spot for Jetta because he's a great tackler and has really nice evasive agility skills. But he's also very short meaning he can only play on the smallest of resting midfielders and small forwards, he's not very good at finding the ball, he doesn't break the lines with run and his kicking can be neat and tidy but he seems to max out at about 40m distance.

I'm tipping no one gets elevated unless we get injuries to our backline.

Depends who gets injured in the first couple of rounds and of course the preseason games......

Surely this, the first response, is the right one.

Why commit to anyone when we don't need to unless and until one is needed?

Jetta wiil be promoted 100%

I reckon Roos will love him as a player and I still think he will make it

I would taker him any day over Tapscott, Nicholson, Strauss and Blease (and others)

I agree I think he'll make it, but I would promote Alexis Georgiou now.

let Jetta go a bit longer. I want us to start off the season with the biggest bodies we can muster onfield first up.

IMO Nev will benefit from being on the rookie list for a bit longer yet.

Jetta is 90 % irrelevant to us going forward. hes just a better pick at the level he was than many around him.

Hes a looooong long way to go to break into this side....now

hmm 6 years in with 41 games, haven't seen much real output from Nev. I've always liked him but I'm afraid his window might be shut

Being demoted to the rookie list is a good indication it's pretty much closed. Really I think he's just too short and slow for AFL unless he has some extra top attributes. I understand moving him to the backline to make use of his tackling and trying get him more ball but I don't know how you get a game as a small defender if you don't have some size or speed.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
