WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRISTIAN SALEM

Welcome Witchy.

It'll catch on.

If this is because of why I think it is, I don't know what's worse - the fact I cracked your cryptic message (almost immediately I might add), or the fact that you knew to call him that.

If Witchy doesn't stick Sabrina, we could always try DOOLs as a nickname...

I suppose 'Burn baby burn!' is out of the question ...

I have been told by a source inside the pies that Salem was rated ahead of Freeman.

Also was informed that the 2 late choices they made they had rated far ahead of where they were taken.

Make of that what you will.

I mentioned in the Who do we take with 9 that my father's friend is the evaluator of talent in the Eastern and Southern Region for Collingwood, and was also told that Salem was rated ahead of Freeman, but interestingly also Aish. Had the Lions taken Freeman at 7, he said to me that the Pies would've taken Salem ahead of Aish.

Salem looks a lot older in the pic from today's training session than he does in the ones in the draft publicity.

The miracles of an AFL preseason Sue. It's when, in a short amount of time, players can lose weight, gain weight, bulk up, get quicker, kick further, handball harder, all in the space of between (in Salem's case) a few days, to a few weeks. Now we can add aging a couple of years to the list!

I wish the MFC could rookie me for the next 2 months, I wouldn't mind adding a bit of muscle tone/deifintion for the summer.

Haha, was it cryptic? It wasn't meant to be. "Witchy" just seems a logical jump from Salem. We've already had the Wizard.

Salem was also a brand of cigarettes... should we call him "Menthols"?...or, god forbid, "F ag"?

Or maybe he'll get the name "Slalem" in honor of our supposed love of skiing.

Bugger, so it had nothing to do with Sabrina the Teenage Witch? Her cat was called Salem.

Ok, so I'm the sad one for knowing that!

(Nb. to confirm my sadness, Salem is the city that Days of our Lives is set - aka DOOLs).

Yeah, check out this blast from the past ... "softened with fresh air"

Perhaps "dart" (for those bullet like left foot passes)

Wouldn't surprise me given Aish is so outside I think a lot of teams were put off by that and the go home factor. But they pies took Scharenberg remember so the real question is if Freeman went at 7 would the pies have taken Salem over Scharenberg? I dont think they would've. We would've then been choosing between Salem and Aish with the pies getting the left over and 10.

They chose Scharenberg, it had nothing to do with Brisbane. Both were on the table at their pick. Not sure what you are getting at here.

It's great we have Cross, perhaps interesting that a senior player that has come over from another club is the one who stands out from the pack, I think it says a bit about the team

What a cross he has to bear, Lord.

We nearly beat them twice in our worst ever year-so I pity the dogs .

For interest sake I was wondering how many Lebanese background guys have played AFL. According to wikipaedia it's Mil Hanna, Bachar Houli, Robbie Nahas and presumably Salem will join them. Not a bad list for such a small group. If AFL was bigger in Sydney then the list would be much longer.

Thought that was Brock McLean with a beard.

Love that he is aiming for round 1. May not make the final 22 but will create further competition for spots. Good luck to the kid could be a gem

I love that too. Need to aim high and why not.

Nice positive article - time will tell how quickly and how far he comes on but looks to have a good attitude and approach to his new profession anyway

Ahhh...that takes me back to #4 in the late 50s and early 60s. Played CHF I think in the '60 GFP.

He did say he was an Essendon Supporter, that has to count against him,

That crime should be worth two extra laps at each training run.

He's just been given an out.

They've always been a fickle bunch anyway. How often do you hear the phrase, "I'm an Essendon supporter...but I don't really follow the footy."

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
