Vagg 2,449 Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Why cant we get a home game against essendon at the G. Three years in a row now. Because they'd have to wear their predominantly white clash jumper! Oh! I forgot. They don't have one...! LOL
Vagg 2,449 Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 No, neither. Both of them are once-only games, home games (Brisbane at Etihad). Bummer!!
Dee Fan 3,247 Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Highlights the soft culture that a lot of our Melbourne-based supporters have created or helped maintain. Yes it does, but as they say "it is what it is" and I hate that term.
Vagg 2,449 Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 What gives with the team names in that fixture? No mascot name: Carlton, St.Kilda, Port Adelaide, Essendon, Richmond, Collingwood, North Melbourne, Melbourne, Fremantle, Hawthorn Mascot name: Geelong Cats, Sydney Swans, West Coast Eagles, Adelaide Crows, Brisbane Lions Mascot name in CAPS: Gold Coast SUNS, GWS GIANTS Mascot name is their name: Western Bulldogs Yeah, 55, I've wondered about that inconsistency for years. Kinda funny, really. How hard is it?
Vagg 2,449 Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Not one game in Queensland!!!... God that shits me! You speak for all of us Queenslanders on that one...!
demonkeaney 61 Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 We play the following on a 6 day break. Carlton, Sydney, Essendon, Hawthorn, Fremantle & WCE. Tough
hardtack 11,104 Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 You speak for all of us Queenslanders on that one...! It's been like that for us Sydneysiders as well... we went for 4 years without a Dees game in Sydney (played one in 2007 and next was last year).
Jaded No More 68,976 Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Spewing I'll miss the Rounds 3 & 4 games, but the fact we don't need to go to Geelong is great. It would be nice to one day get a home game against Carlton and/or Essendon. Commercially this is not a good draw, but it's not a difficult draw, so hopefully early wins will bring in more members and better attendances which will net us a better result financially.

old dee 24,082 Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 good to see the AFL did not schedule the bye after either of out Northern Territory games you cna mark both those games down for loses hh I find this theme untrue ( I am trying hard to be nice ). The MFC would not beat the Pies and Cats in 2014 no matter where or who we played the week before those games. The simple fact is we are a poor side and have been ever since we started going to the NT. In the last seven years we have won a handful of games each year, we have hardly ever won two in a row. The simple fact is good sides win games no matter where they are staged. The poor ones don't. Please get over the NT games.
P-man 13,367 Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Not great from a commercial standpoint but we have to face facts that until the team can start making games interesting, crowds won't come regardless. This is the season to build some confidence and win back a bit of respect, and in that regard it is a pretty good draw.
titan_uranus 25,252 Posted October 31, 2013 Author Posted October 31, 2013 That's true but unfortunately it's only part of it; look at North they win games and have been half decent over the last few years but they still don't draw the crowds. We need to get back to winning and we need to get back to the G, the supporters have shown that that's the only place they will go to watch games, so if we are winning games in Darwin or at Etihad it means nothing; our supporters will not go there to watch home or away games. Call it what you will, but that's the way it is and we have to accept it unfortunately. That's true to an extent, though I think it's fair to argue that if we start winning more often, including in Darwin or at Etihad, that will spark renewed interest in us as a brand and that translates to better attendances at the MCG too. I think in general we just need to become less of an impediment. That includes winning, it also just includes not being smashed every week. If we can become a more competitive club, that will go a long way to getting us back in better timeslots and having more games against Victorian clubs. North is a great example in that regard; didn't make the finals, but were mighty competitive and played attacking and exciting football. That makes them more enticing as a brand, which got them 5 Friday night games.
Straight Sets Simon 23,113 Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Round 1 2007 Melb v St kilda, Melb enter into the 2007 full of hope after beating St Kilda in the finals 2006 before going down to Fremantle. The club had high hopes for 2007 and we believed we would be in contention. This was the start of what has now been 7 years of hell. 2014 we need to win round 1. Good old "run and carry". I wonder if Roosy is going to bring it back?
Sir Why You Little 37,450 Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 This first year of Roos is all about winning games. The commerciality of it can wait another year. The AFL are not going to gift us any marquee games other than QB until we show improvement Why would they? God dam it we have been that bad. No more 5 year blueprints. Win games in 2014. It is not a bad draw if Roos can get them all believing.
monoccular 17,759 Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Highlights the soft culture that a lot of our Melbourne-based supporters have created or helped maintain. Maybe the Doglands problem is a bit of chicken and egg stuff. When we start winning there regularly vs Dogs, Norf and Saints especially then fans may return. JUST START BLOODY WINNING!!!!
Bring-Back-Powell 15,534 Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Wow, dare I say it, we could potentially be 3 and 0.I shudder when I read things like this.We also could be 0-3
