Rockliff manager was on SEN this morning. He asked not to be asked about Rockliff??

Andy Maher did ask and he gave the line that hes vice capt and contracted and wouldnt think he would be going anywhere.

Question is why would he request not to be asked about him?? The conspiracy theorist in me would think there something going on and he didnt want to make a comment to not lie or giving the wrong information out???????

Stop getting me excited

Bad Grimes Times, very bad Grimes Times!

Apparently that's because he didn't want to be asked about the Carlton rumour - it's supposed to be a load of shite, started on twitter by someone.

Ironically I got this info from one of the facebook pages so that could be totally off too.

If D Thomas is worth $700k for four years surely we could throw that Rockliffs way after money freed up by Sylvia and Davey...and we have pick 2 to get the job done.

Funny you say that, I heard the interview also and thought the manager sounded sheepish when answering the question, he certainly didn't answer it with conviction.

Well they got him through Free Agency so that's more cash based. If we were to get Rockliff it would be more trade related (no way would you pay him 700,000 a year and trade pick 2).

I don't want to pay massive overs but we might have to and now that Sylvia and Davey have left maybe we can front load a contract like we did with Clark.

The problem with that is that we need a mid to play for 8 years and it would be tough to then half that contract after the initial contract ends (like 4 years).

I just saw Brisbane list manager Rob Kerr chatting with Tim Harrington in Gloria Jeans, Docklands. Got excited then I realised Harrington has left the club.

I actually don't think that contract and trade are overs. Tom Rockliff is an absolute gun. Polled an arseolad of votes in the Brownlow, gets a lot of the ball and can go forward, and is still young.

Our salary cap has to go somewhere and I would rather give a big chunk of it to a gun like Rockliff than front load contracts of the current under achievers.

who's harrington working for now, or is he consulting possibly?

This was on the Hun website in 2012 about Tom Rockliff:

Rockliff trained with Melbourne before the pre-season draft and his family believed he would be rookie listed by the Demons.

Melbourne used its pre-season pick, No.1, on Liam Jurrah and then, at pick No.5, Brisbane sprung a surprise after giving no indication of their intentions.

So.....there is interest there for this guy at MFC no doubt.....

We will see...

...Yet.

Where there is smoke there is fire......... I just hope if he does decide to go he chooses the Dees. I reckon we could get a trade done with the Lions

Whilst I think pick 2 would be slight overs, I think we could get involved with helping with some of the other Bris boys who want to get home. I think a 3 way trade where we end up with Rocky, and their first pick for pick 2 maybe pick 21 (Col's compo) and another team gets the Bris player they want and we get something (maybe a frindge player) from that other team.

from the trade link

  1. 2.59pm: The Lions move to deny that ball magnet Tom Rockliff is on the trade table. Speculation has linked Rockliff with a move to Melbourne in exchange for the Demons' No.2 draft pick.
I know it's slow news but D'land is very slow

You know what though?

For a prolific twitter user, Rockliff comes across as blissfully unaware of any rumours.

Rob Kerr may have refuted them, and his manager has refuted them... but Rockliff himself hasn't even acknowledged them, let alone pledged his loyalty.

Just found that interesting.

Manager could be just playing the PR game, so Rockliff can stay if it all falls apart.

On another note, interesting to see him posting photos having out with Fev in recent days.

Would that worry anyone if a young player of ours was hanging out with him?

I might not be concerned that Fev would be able to "turn him wrong", but I do think it shows some strange character traits to even want to spend some free time with such a buffoon.

Totally agree! But unfortunately young guys like him probably think that BF is like a god! Hope we can get him away from such distractions!

This is worded in an interesting way.

Its doesn't deny that the player himself has asked to be traded and the player or his manager have made no denials.

There is something in this I am sure, but if the club doesn't want to release the player everyone will need to wait.

If pick 2 is being talked about all other clubs are listening. Even if they want to keep him pick 2 should be enough to start trade discussions.

We will be aggressive with recruiting players roos wants. If he wants rockliff I can see a deal getting done.

Can't see it happening, but Rockliff is a genuine star. Pick 2 would not be overs.

I agree with P-man,

It's a tough ask but if the club can persuade Rockclifff to request a trade I'd happily see pick 2 go for him, heck I'd happily see the Sylvia compo go as well just to land him.

Yes it's highly unlikely... although so was Paul Roos.

Time will tell.

Rockliff's 3 weeks training out at Casey must have sure left a positive mark!

By the way I think Brisbane would turn down pick 2 even if Rockliff was desperate to leave which I figure he isn't. They are going to have picks poring in for Longer, Dochery, Yeo, Karnezis and Polec. The last 3 should get second round picks. Longer should get a first and Docherty should get something between 15 and 25.

Maybe our trade isn't Rockliff but is Brisbane and we are trading pick 2 for a whole bunch of first and second round picks that we can disperse for reasonable quality players.

Tom rockliff looking for a house in melbourne, spoken to mitch clark about this and even considering moving in with him,

Will be a 4 year deal worth 500,000+ a year

Even though I think you're full of it, this gives me some serious warm fuzzies. Wouldn't it be great if it were true?

I agree. With such a large number of players wanting out, Leppitsch will be desperate to hold onto every player he can.

Rocky is contracted. There would have to be a lot of work to convince them to let him go. Even for pick 2.

Still holding out hope on this rumour that he is ours though. I get the impression that we may have rumours about a heap of players and may be a bit dissapointed when none of them eventuate.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.
