Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Ben Mathews joins our coaching panel

Given Roos' consensus style of communication, I'd be surprised if the prospective Senior Assistant has not been discussing this with Roos as it has evolved.

The speed of the selection process implies that the delay on announcing the Senior Assistant is simply because they are still involved in the season, not because they are yet to decide...

That may well be true, but so far it seems that all of the appointments have Paul Roos name all over them. Allison, Mathews and Moore were involved with the Swans during PR's tenure as coach.

There's probably nothing in it, just something I found curious.

Moore?

I must have missed that news and cant see an article or announcement on the MFC site

I haven't seen any mention of either Matthews' or Allisons' role. Only that they've joined the coaching panel.

It would seem to me that with the likelihood of Rawlings staying on board, we've now filled our quota of assistants.

The last piece is the senior assistant. Which I find a little bizarre, in that they will have had no input into the coaching panel they will eventually take over.

Or have I got the situation completely wrong?

He is a few years away from that, by then the contracts will be up and he can bring who he likes in.

It's speculation, someone mentioned it as a possible signing.

How unusual for a new coach to bring in his own team of assistants.

Mathews on abc grandstand currently.

Going to be a line coach for us after being development coach at GC17.

Has been blown away by the enthusiasm Roos is showing for the role - compared him to an 18 year old arriving at an AFL club for the first time.

Very impressive as you'd expect from someone who has previously been a commentator.

Kennelly effusive in his praise for Roos, but no, he's not taking a role at the Dees.

Roos meeting with Burns on Tuesday. Can't meet with Simpson until Hawks are finished. Unlikely a senior assistant will be announced until after finals

I know that's technically the case, but surely with Hawthorn having the week off, Simpson managed to find a bit of time to meet with us.

(Gritting teeth and bracing myself for a howling down).

My eyebrows are a little raised at this. Is he going to bring in anyone who wasn't part of his time at Sydney? I'm happy with the signing but would like to see people from other backgrounds involved at the club. To be fair, neither Scott Burns or Adam Simpson were Swans men and they are being mooted as the most likely senior assistants and successors.

I think Roos's teachers will all be those who he knows & trusts to deliver the message he has established at the Swans.

the pupils will come from all points, surely.

Ben Mathews;

Hard working

Professional

Instills confidence throughout a team

Amazing communicator, especially one-on-one

Will give players some self belief, but also ensure they understand that they have to work for it

Source: Me. Played footy with him in his life after Sydney.

Stoked to have him on board at the MFC. He will be respected by our players from Day 1.

I see where you're coming from, but Roos has been very open about his want to bring across some assistants who are familiar with his coaching and game style, who can hit the ground running. So, this is to be expected, and as long as they have some recent wins to back up their appointment, as Matthews appears to have, I'm all for it.

I wouldn't give a rats behind if Roos got every single coach from Sydney. Who really cares where they come from. Picking a coaching panel isn't about being fair and selecting people from each and every club. It's about having the best possible coaching panel.

Roos admitted himself, if he can have as many coaching staff members that he's work with in the past, not only will it make the coaching panel the best it can be, but it will even fast track Melbourne's progress as the coaches are all familiar with the way each other work.

It is one thing about Roos installing people who are familair with his style and culture and i am sure that most Demonlanders will applaud that and see the logic. What will be the ongoing role for Todd Viney however and the remmants of a proud Melbourne Culture? Can they be successfully meshed?

It is becoming clear that Roos and his assistants are the confidence instilling type of person. That is the direct opposite of MN. makes a lot of sense.

The word coming out from those that have met Roos, is that they are just lifting in hope and self belief, as he talks to them.

One aspect of a winning culture, is a positive self belief in your ability.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
