"we have to instill a club culture & then embed it into our Ethos."

This procedure sounds a bit painful dee-luded! Seriously though, you are right Dee-luded. A consistent approach from the coaching staff under Roos followed by a seamless transition to the next in line.

He was a commentator last year? he can speak fine, very highly regarded by both Ross Lyon and Paul Roos, been involved at successful clubs, already knows paul roos game plan/ how to implement the bloods culture, there is a pretty strong argument for him to at least be considered as an assistant.

Limited coaching resume.

No experience outside the Roos and Lyon game plan unless you go back to his playing days under Eade.

And you sure he can speak fine - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKlE5ICe5rA

He'd make a good assistant under Roos but I want the senior assistant to be someone who can help Roos develop an ongoing plan for the list, for the game plan etc. I get the feeling Kirk would just roll with Roos' / Lyon's plan and then be found wanting when he got the job. All culture wont make a difference if you don't have a successful, diligent and well worked plan. Simpson comes from a great culture at North when they were shinboners to Hawthorn where they are smart, skilled and ruthless. I wouldn't worry about that.

We also can't implement the bloods culture because we aren't the bloods.

You don't see Kirk in the press at all. There's a reason.... he's bordering illiterate.

Tough, very tough player...... senior coach?....... No

Is that a serious comment? Kirk presents himself well and apart from the one bizarre intro he did (that was probably set up for him by the station), he is very lucid and comes across as reasonably intelligent and very capable. Were you one of those who used to say the same thing about Nathan Jones?

I get a little rush of enthusiasm whenever people mention Adam Simpson as the successor coach.

Huge respect for such a low-key player and leader who achieved consistent excellence for an entire decade. A few year's experience coaching the midfield, particularly stoppages at Hawthorn hasn't hurt his credibility, either.

On a side note. interesting how many of Hawthorn's coaching panel are in some way connected to Melbourne, historically; Clarkson, Fagan, Ratten, Yze and Bruce have all been Demons at some point.

The club can't be too far away from annointing the successor. Any one have any inside info? Has Caro announced it yet?

Not sure but OD may. He has something special going with Caro you know!

crackers keenan said on mondayitis that scott burns is looking increasingly likely as the man.

interesting, cos i was told on the weekend that he'd been told he was out of the running, and was likely to be at the pies next season!

(ahead of taking over from figjam when there's a putsch on mcguire in 2014, and then buckley, in 2015, haha.)

So that's where Caro gets her information from, OD. All this time I was thinking she was getting fed from the AFL!

so we can rule out Burns...

I don't have any reliable inside info, but I don't think it will be too long before we announce Adam Simpson as senior assistant.

I also fully expect that to mean we end up with David King talking about us a lot more and thinking he's the resident expert on MFC, as he'll have direct line into the coaching dept.

That's not to say they will leak, but he'll have an existing strong relationship with a key member of the footy dept, and will use it.

Simpson i believe was interviewed for the WC coaching gig today.

Herald Sun are saying no Burns and unlikley Simpson as the senior coaching assistant for MFC. Who's left and likely. Tudor? Dew? Kirk? Anyone else?

Apparently Tudor ruled himself out a while ago, but I reckon it'll be Simpson, can't see why else we would wait this long.

Im going to go left field here and say Alan Richardson.

Would be good in the sense that he was at ground zero for port's rise, and is credited with a lot of that, very experienced, been around quite abit.

"Simpson seems likely to also be overlooked at the Demons but has not yet been alerted officially about his chances of taking over at Melbourne."

A horribly worded sentence, if I ever saw one.

The first half says Simpson "seems" unlikely, a pure guess, then from "but" onwards reads as if it says the opposite.

Can't even find the article online, and it seems to have been superseded by some Hagdorn dross that omits Ralph's specious supposition.

Like Hinkley has done a long apprenticeship. With Tudor, Burns and Simpson supposedly out would this be the left field selection?

Ahh well, my hopes that O'Loughlin might have been a chance for our senior role seems to have been dashed.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-10-01/oloughlin-returns-to-swans?utm_medium=RSS

Why would you want a bloke who along with Adam Hueske and Peter Burgoyne paid a woman out of court $200,000 over an 'alleged' pack rape in adelaide years ago. Ask yourself who pays victims when they are innocent ?

That's who my favourite choice would be. Heard great things about him when he was carlton and was Hinkley's right hand man this year

yep, painful would be right, & bloody hard work to learn to do this stuff. but it would have turned Sylvia out as an absolute star if he had this stuff early in his career. think Stevie Johnson.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
