According to a tweet by a Melbourne player (deleted name as it doesn't appear to be public yet).

If so well done.

Long overdue.

Usually embargoed until tomorrow isn't it? Because it's obviously such huge news! But thanks for breaking the story _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Well earned.

Gotta feel for him having dreamed of playing for the MFC and walking into this third world [censored] storm. But he seems as well equipped as anyone to help steer the way out. It is both an indictment on the club and a credit to him that a first year player can easily be in the club's top 3-4 players, not just in terms of potential but contribution on the field as well.

All those kids with number 4 on the back should be trading them in for a number 7. If there is any future to this club, he's it.

Seems not many fussed by this great news....

Will be when confirmed, so many rumours involving the Dees just never pan out.

There is an article on the AFL site that puts together an All Austrslian u23 side. For a team that has attempted to rebuild through the draft with young players it is an tragedy that we did not have one player in there.

Hopefully this years crop will start to turn it around. Viney is unlike anything we drafted under BP.

Viney, Toumpas, Terlich and Matt Jones

a pretty solid 2012 draft!

Confirmed in a tweet from Patrick Keene this morning...

@AFL_PKeane: Melbourne's jack Viney is the round 21 #nabaflrisingstar after a team-high 28 possessions in Sunday's loss to the Dockers,1 goal & 5 tackles

@AFL_PKeane: Viney, recruited under the father-son rule, has played 11 games in his debut season, averaging 18 touches per game.

Well done Jack.

It was lovely to wake up to hear the Viney rising star nomination on this morning's radio news! This is the start of a stellar career for Viney and I predict a Brownlow Medal will follow in five years, as Ablett's star fades!

This quote from Jack in that interview really stood out for me:"As the year goes you can one of two ways. You can either sook about it and give up, or you keep fighting. For me it's an obvious answer." I just wish it was such an "obvious answer" for many of your team mates Jack!

Jack just continues to impress, impossible not to love this guy.

Very well deserved nomination and well overdue.

2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. He showed great resilience in coming back from a nasty rib injury and is expected to continue in that role for another couple of seasons. 2024 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield. There could be more of that in 2025. 2024 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best. He was also inconvenienced by minor niggles later in the season. This was a blow for the club that sorely needed him to fill gaps in the midfield at times as well as to do his best work in defence.
