Our players are killing our club

PLayers come and go but our club has been here for 150+yrs.This present bunch of players though is doing their best to kill our club.

I am sick of hearing about how hard it is to play for a club like melbourne when we are so bad. Sick of hearing players like Watts say " I wish we had leaders like Joel Selwood". Sick of the media laughing at us like they did on two radio stations I heard today

Jack Viney showed the rest of them today how to run and how to attack a contest. A first year player. There were a few others and Nate Jones gives his all every week but I am so over this pathetic bunch of soft pea hearts.

Port adelaide have done an amazing job of dragging themselves off the canvas when no-one wanted to coach them, no players wanted to get drafted by them.

Same as the Bulldogs. Looked pathetic for a year and a half but now playing with passion and fire.

And us? Well frankly our club will be lucky to be here in 3yrs time. Our players have escaped so much scrutiny its a joke. 'Oh we don't like cameron Schwab, oh we don't like Chris Connolly, oh we don't like Mark Neeld. If only we had some leaders, if only this if only that.

My kids are done. Melbourne suck. I know of at least 3 other families where the kids have abandoned our club. And why wouldn't they? Where is the hope?Where is the spirit? Where is the passion?

I couldn't care less if we dropped 20 players from our list at season end. Just find me some more like Viney who has a go week in week out. Some hard asses who play with passion and hardness.

If we don't we will fold.

Agree. It's time the club played hard ball.

Rock hard. Players who don't like it we trade or play at Casey.

Simple.

I've been saying this all year. People were crying out for Mark Neeld to get sacked and maybe they were right to do so, but that doesn't hide the fact that it is our players who are ultimately responsible for anything good or bad we see on the field.

They ARE killing our club, and the worst thing about it is that they don't even know (or care) that they're doing it.

When the going gets tough.. watts and the rest get going... ( to other clubs)

The only way out of this mess is basically a massive cull. Get in a big group of new kids or midfielders and teach the players how to trust each other. it wont be quick. But going for hardnuts and players with a bit of arrogance (or personality - or even in some cases a pulse) would be a step up.

Maybe Terry Wallace could help them with tanning ideas

This is what i said post 186.

Any player or official who was part of that day must leave the club.

186 was akin to a stock market crash.

G Lyon you completely misread the situation. CS should have been kicked out the door so hard that day....2 years later our non respecting player list is still being paid.

It must start next week with Watts at Casey.

Have called for years for Sylvia o be traded but hav been howled down by pea brains that are too scared to be brave, unwilling to move on anyone with talent.

Our club has dug it's own hole, not just the players, supporters helped to a degree.

Point the fingers all you want, hope you have more than two hands though

It's funny because we always want our players to be traded and don't get me wrong it's not the worst idea. But why can't we ever give Sylvia or Watts a good spell in the 2's.

For what it's worth I actually think Sylvia is having a dip at the moment. He's attacking the ball hard and tackling and probably running about as hard as he knows how given the culture has been ingrained into him.

Personally from what I saw today I actually didn't think work ethic was the problem for most of our players. And 3 our blokes off and 2 of theirs off injured showed we tried physically.

Today was about a team that has been coached up for 2 years on 110% attack at the contest and 120% work rate against a side that's got away with all too little for the best part of 5 years.

wasnt one of the drugs Golden Boy was said to have taken something to do with tanning?

Quite true, I've followed the club for many years and this would have to be the worst bunch of players we have ever had at the club, they lack basic skills, basic accountability and any semblance of heart.

I can't understand why it's happened the way it has, but it's like the perfect storm, where all the conditions have aligned to create the perfect [censored] team.

It's as if they are all waiting for someone else (Jack Watts in particular) to get up and show them the way and win some games for them. There are few among them that deserve to put their hand out at the end of the week.

I've stuck up for some of them in the past but not any more, players like Tapscott, who my wife sponsors, need to get more of the ball or get a new job. Howe, who I sponsor, also needs to show that he is more than a one trick pony and that he can actually help Melbourne win a flag rather than just winning mark of the year.

There are others that sit back and wait for something to happen, and we all know who they are that are never going to be as good as we thought they would be.

How must it grate on Magner when he works his backside off, gets possessions galore, but still can't get a game when Rodan and Byrnes and Nicholson and Blease seem to get one without any form at all.

WAFJ.

In the midst of the debate about Neeld, I wrote that our players are coach killers. You might be closer to the mark. Unless something is done to change the list/culture/expectations, the club could well find itself relegated to Tasmania or merged with the Roos or Bulldogs. We need to take to this list with a big knife and cut out the fat.

Shut up WYL.

We've had other losses as bad as that since. Your obsession with that one game is absurd.

The current culture of our club is not the fault of Schwab, McLardy, or even your infamous 186.

Sick of you dribbling on about that game over and over. It has nowhere near the significance or meaning you place on it.

Move on.

Trouble is you can't unload 36 players and draft in 36 new ones or 20 for that matter. We may unload another 12 this yer to go with 12 or so last year and 10 before that. When do we stop churning? Lets face it our recuiting has been shiyte. No talent, no chance, I say. Oh and of course no development of our players whatever that means?

The only way out of this mess is basically a massive cull. Get in a big group of new kids or midfielders and teach the players how to trust each other. it wont be quick. But going for hardnuts and players with a bit of arrogance (or personality - or even in some cases a pulse) would be a step up.

Without doubt. But no point unless the AFL offers a mid season draft (to all Clubs) with the ability for us to put most players (at least those who are newly contracted to the senior list) on performance based contracts with the ability to move them on through that draft, subject to being given a reasonable period of time/opportunity to prove they can meet certain KPIs. In addition there needs to be a provision in that performance based contract to cancel a new player's tenure early, if he falls short of meeting certain KPIs by a substantial margin.

If we don't take drastic action, similar to the above, we will be a permanent dumping ground for the AFL's leaky rusting wrecks and i fear the club itself will eventually be scuttled on foreign (interstate) shores somewhere with the sand crabs picking at its remains.

i'd say Schwab has some role to play, however large or small is up for debate. But he is just one of many factors over the years to add to the snowball of insipidness.

Hahahaha! No worries Mr excuse. You cannot even see the basis of tge problem when it is staring you down.

Have ANY of our players put their hand up since that day Stuie???

There's so many factors that have lead to us being so poor, and I'm just sick of WYL always laying all the blame on Schwab and "186".

We lost by 148 to Essendon this year, should we start calling that game "148", or call today's game "95". It's all just absurd.

Just out of interest does anyone know when the new tv deal is negotiated?

What's keeping us in business is the current contract, but once it's up if I was a Network I'd want one less team (allowing a bye team each week, which doesn't create compromised rounds mid season like the current deal).

I'd say we are in some real trouble if we don't improve quickly.

Well let's see WYL...

Bailey's gone, Schwab is gone, McLardy is gone, Stynes is gone, Gysberts is gone, Martin is gone, Green is gone, Rivers is gone, Petterd is gone, Moloney is gone, Maric is gone, Jurrah is gone, Bate is gone, and Moloney is gone.

Tell me again how much better we are now?

31 goals is what i am talking about.

A PLAYER REVOLT.

It's Game Day, and reinforcements are finally arriving for the Demons—but will it be too little, too late? They're heading down the freeway to face a Cats side returning home to their fortress after two straight losses, desperate to reignite their own season. Can the Demons breathe new life into their campaign, or will it slip even further from their grasp?

  • PREVIEW: Geelong

"It's officially time for some alarm bells. I'm concerned about the lack of impact from their best players." This comment about one of the teams contesting this Friday night’s game came earlier in the week from a so-called expert radio commentator by the name of Kane Cornes. He wasn’t referring to the Melbourne Football Club but rather, this week’s home side, Geelong. The Cats are purring along with 1 win and 2 defeats and a percentage of 126.2 (courtesy of a big win at GMHBA Stadium in Round 1 vs Fremantle) which is one win more than Melbourne and double the percentage so I guess that, in the case of the Demons, its not just alarm bells, but distress signals. But don’t rely on me. Listen to Cornes who said this week about Melbourne:- “They can’t run. If you can’t run at speed and get out of the contest then you’re in trouble.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit.
Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.
