Despite all this recent talk, Roos still appears to be sitting on the fence and tellingly he has not put the story to bed which should be dead easy to do if he rejects us outright. He is a media person with plenty to say and if we don't hear a definitive NO from him soon It would be bad form for his reputation if he continued stringing us along and eventually said a 100% NO at a later stage.

A cynical look at the situation could be that he may be interested in coaching in WA or Queensland. Much better climate and so called life style as some suggest. He could be playing us off to get a better deal if so. I do not think this is the case.

Nothing really changed still no definitive no, club is doing what is right and covering all bases.

Make no mistake he will be spoken to again before a final decision is made. At the end of the day there are plenty of good options out there

My mail from the start was that Roos wouldn't coach for private family reasons. In any event, the last thing we need is a coach who doesn't have passion a la Malcolm Blight at St. Kilda a decade ago.

Neil Craig has certainly "freed up the players" and that resulted in some better performances but from a long term perspective, I'm not sure that this philosophy is enough to get us up to the required standard to challenge the top teams.

Williams has always been Caroline Wilson's favourite for the position and since it appears that she has the AFL's ear, it will probably come to pass.

Whilst I have no doubt Roos would make an excellent coach . Two aspects do irk me about his demeanour..

One...acting like some sort of god and toying with the club. Yes I appreciate there are fine lines to walk and such but really, its just a bit of a prima donna carry on. But its the second area that worries me more. And yet it too is supposition in the main ; that he would be doing it essentially short term then handing over to underlings. Thats just mercenary to the max. ( if it were the case to be )

Whomever comes in I want them to invest as much of themselves into the task ahead for a reasonable period of time. Say 4-5 years. I dont want any fly by-nighters with one eye on the meter and the other on the door.

I was asked my opinion some time ago as to my personal choice and I replied with Williams. He is still my preference. If Roos deigns to change his mind all well and good but he would want to be doing it properly and not half hearted..

I hope none of this is stroking his ego... it must be a nice feeling knowing that the job is there if he wants it. If we've moved on due to his indecision or whatever it may be, it is the right decision. We can't be waiting around for him to make up his mind forever and to do that would be weak.

And talking of North Melbourne, is Dean Laidley considered to be in the senior coaching field? Not sure about his marketability (which, unfortunately, I think has to be part of the package these days) but I have great respect for him as a tactician and someone who appears to get the best out of his players.

We are mid season - no appointment will be made until seasons end. So much still to be done - financial package, possible concession picks, board members to be found, president to be found, admin positions to be filled.

Until seasons end no-one is ruled in or out - including Roos. What happens if Worsfold is not recontracted. What happens if Hawthorn go out in straight sets and they move Clarkson on (unlikely) - you dont make coaching appointments before seasons end so therefore you dont make decisions until that time either. Let all the cards unfold and until then all this is fluff and nonsense. we dont move on...we dont move off...we don't discount anyone who we think we might want.

I believe you need to get permission from the club to interview, and that it can be denied.

Appointments are not made when the Press Release comes out so I don't know how they are going to police that.

Frankly I would wait but with Jackson going on holiday over August-Sept it may not be viable to do so.

To be honest, I don't think interviews will be next week, but we will see.

I find it hilarious how people seem so certain who will or will not take the job.

Unless we're right at the end of the season -- Grand Final week -- or the season is completely over, no one is going to even hint at interest in the job. It's ludicrous to dismiss Roos' possible appointment based on his comments, and equally ludicrous to suggest any of the individuals the club has contacted are legitimately interested. We don't know, and won't know, until much later.

This conjecture is so pointless. Roos is still a contender. People are acting like as if they want him to come out and say, "I WANT THE JOB I AM INTERESTED!" You can't do that mid-way through a season while another person is currently in the job, and who could potentially be there next year. It's unprofessional.

Gee whiz people lap up everything they read. There is NO chance Roos or anyone else would come out and admit to wanting the job, because that means they'll get it. Craig is a contender so all of this won't happen because no one wants to step on the shoes of a respected individual like Craig.

Wait until the season's over. If Roos says he has no interest then, then he has no interest. Until then, everyone is just playing it safe with their comments. I thought it was common sense.

Agreed. Clarkson was my first choice. This said, Roos would extinguish the speculation if he wasn't interested or coming. It damages our brand to be strung out in such a public way. The AFL would have stepped in if he wasn't a strong chance. They want the MFC to be a viable option for players, sponsors etc. He's still coming for mine.
