Does the MFC deserve draft assistance?

So... Based on past precedent, do we deserve draft assistance?

YES.

'Deserving' something has nothing to do with precedent... would you argue that thieves should have their hands cut off, just because the precedent is there from medieval times?

If we were still in the old system, we would have earned draft assistance... but we're in a new system, so we haven't. It's up to the AFL.

I don't agree with the term "deserving", but it's what the OP asks.

But we deserve a priority pick.

That's not indisputable fact, it's my opinion.

If you don't like it, you can jump in the lake.

I'd be staggered if we got a PP at the start of the draft.

I'd be staggered if we don't now.

Anyone want to argue now?

Should have there ever been an argument? We deserve a mini draft type concession or pick one.

We deserve a draft like gws got two years ago with 10 out if the first 20 draft picks (or something of that nature).

We won't get em but

The club that beat us today had the first five picks in the 2011 National Draft and 9 of the first 14 and yet today was its first win of its second season.

I think it's time for the AFL to get serious with the sort of draft assistance it's prepared to hand out to this club to help get it back on its feet.

Draft assistance alone isn't going to do the trick but without 2 to 4 mini draft or priority picks I can't see us breaking through for a long time.

Totally agree mate, if we weren't going to get a PP i think we will now.

Judging by today, we need more than pick 1!

And we think things can't get worse, well what if Frawley leaves and Dawes and Clark don't come good, perish the thought.

Is it possible we could get more than a PP? maybe picks 1 and 2 and a mini draft?

Even that would not be enough, but it would be a good start.

This is very true. But we need a or two PP before pick one, so we can trade them for a couple of Mid's with class. Not to use int he draft.

Yes. But if the AFL do not headhunt the right people to run this club we will not get a PP.

We need some footballers with some grunt as well!!!

There is talk of AFL support for someone like Buddy Franklin going to GWS, I wonder if there could be similar support to get players to Melbourne?

It is quite obvious we need 2 or 3 mids to support Jones and the young mids coming through. This is the only thing that will make us competitive next year.

We need a PP to not only sell hope to supporters but the players as well. Need to keep our better players or else it will be a viscous cycle. Wouldnt mind snaffling a Whitfield type next draft.

[censored] yeah

yes we do need it urgently.

few weeks ago i said no when we beat bulldogs but reality is we are behind he GWS as there talent grows over the coming year.

AFL should allocate a 17yo Mini-draft choice for the Demons. Clem Smith is a gun 17yo from WA and the Eagles would be super keen. Pick 9 for him would be a good result all round.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
