old55 23,867 Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Can you copy and paste it? He said 3 clubs in it MFC, Carlton and Port. Also said: Even though he has previously done some coaching at TAC level, he wouldn't be looking to do this during or post career. Sports Science is his go - passion, knowledge, qualified. If he gets to another club, he would purely be as a player, with him working in sports science before transitioning post career.
s-t-i-n-g-a 439 Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 With Sports Science being his interest it is not surprising the 3 clubs are Blues, Port and us with Mission, Buttifant and Burgess. While Mission is very good I suspect the latter two would be slightly more credentialed and appealing.
MadAsHell 4,217 Posted September 23, 2013 Author Posted September 23, 2013 While Mission is very good I suspect the latter two would be slightly more credentialed and appealing. I don't know, being the head sports fitness/science guy behind Australia's 1999 World Cup Cricket team would be a pretty good tick I would have thought.

He's up there no doubt and we seem to be on the short list. But I suspect the recent performances of the respective groups may count against us. Fingers "crossed"
Nasher 33,686 Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 He's up there no doubt and we seem to be on the short list. But I suspect the recent performances of the respective groups may count against us. Fingers "crossed" Don't forget that his primary goal is to play footy for another year or two. You would think that in our midfield there's a spot for him for as long as he's still up to it. Is the same true for Carlton? I'm feeling very optimistic that we will get him and will be disappointed if we don't.
spirit of norm smith 16,681 Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 lets get this deal done ... delisted free agent. It's a win win outcome. We get a strong ballwinner with leadership and experience. Cross gets senior footy and a chance to 're-establish his career.
What 18,810 Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 someone said a couple of weeks ago we signed him for 2 years with part of that as coaching Was probably [censored] like every other rumour on the internet
dee-luded 2,959 Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 It would be good to pick Cross up but it's certainly not the end of the World if we don't, there are probably a couple of ex Geelong footballers that are as good or better. Getting Rodan was all about a role model at training and I think we've gone past that by now. also he was a one year fillip, to be able to show hard work on the track, & be able to give players like Viney a rest in his first year. short term depth with a healthy attitude & spirit.
dee-luded 2,959 Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 I don't know whether he has been delisted though. If he has, sign him up in the designated DFA window and it won't count against any Sylvia comp. I don't think anyone is delisted yet, until list lodgement? officially.
beelzebub 23,392 Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 I don't think anyone is delisted yet, until list lodgement? officially. or I believe unless they have hung up da bootz !! if they are seen as surplus to requirements then they are still listed til contract end.. A classic case of your listed til you arent..lol
Cheap Seats 3,310 Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 AFL contracts generally cease at the end of October - without knowing in detail how list lodgements work I assume Cross is still a Dog until the end of Oct but can sign a new contract with another club which would start in November.... I am not 100% sure how it all works in detail

rpfc 29,044 Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Have a look at the sticky thread that mentions the dates. It will tell you there are two DFA periods where delisted players can sign wherever they wish. If he is delisted. I still don't think that has been ratified yet. Happy to be proven wrong.
dazzledavey36 56,443 Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Daniel Cross will be on trade radio soon so will be interesting to see what he says in regards to his playing future.
dazzledavey36 56,443 Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Was told that he was gone before the last round has spoken to five and six clubs and thinks he still has a lot to offer body is good. Passion is sport and science and wants to stay in that industry. said it would be the perfect scenario Did some practical work with the Western Jets. Wallace said he sets the standard in regards to training and professionalism Wallace also said he would fit a Paul Roos type player. Said he is hungry to play and would go anywhere. Has been training hard already. Wouldn't mind going to a club to help young players out and even win. Wallace also said Cross is one of the best trainer he has ever seen in his time. He is also sets the standard and very team orientated. Wouldn't name the clubs he has spoken to out of respect and said the talks have been positive. Wallace just mentioned after the interview that he would be the perfect fit for Melbourne.

Sounds like he would be a terrific fit for the club, both on the field and off it with the youngsters and what he is interested in doing once his career is finished. Just need to get it over the line and beat out the others for his services.

Just had a thought he would have the opportunity to work with Misson which may be a draw card for him also due to his interest in Sports Science.
Moonshadow 17,678 Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Just had a thought he would have the opportunity to work with Misson which may be a draw card for him also due to his interest in Sports Science. I think I read on here that Misson has little sports science qualifications, just footy experience. Not sure. But if so, i would have thought he'd be better off working under more highly qualified pros.
The Song Formerly Known As 6,479 Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 im sold on cross. get it done.
Grand New Flag 3,227 Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Is there anything stopping us giving Cross a contract today? Do we have to wait for the Trade Period? Since he is a delisted free agent I thought he could sign with anyone at anytime subject to being a stop on a list.
