monoccular 17,760 Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 I petition that the initals JT be exclusively reserved for Jack Trengove. All other players must be referred to using some other method. or JT5 and JT9?. Anyway, to get back on topic, I love Jimmy T. I love them both! Quote
jackaub 1,402 Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 I dont know who is better and who may become better! All I know that in the past on most occasions that MFC have Had to choose between two high picks They have always got it wrong because we have had very poor recruiting and analysis ( We may have even been influenced by general opinion) Let's hope not this time My only comment is that the club doesn't enjoy the luxury of time any more so ready made is good for the future in my humble opinion Quote

drdrake 3,203 Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 Toumpas is going to be a good footballer, we need to stop comparing him, Toumpas has come into the worst midfield in the AFL, we have 1 consistant AFL standard midfielder in Jones, we have 1 midfielder averaging over 20 touches a game Jones, we haven't seen Viney and Grimes much this year, Sylvia is getting better but still hasn't had an outstanding game consistant which is good but we haven't seen the Col blinder that he usually plays once or twice a year. What I love about Toumpas is his skill, we will see a couple of games over the next 9 weeks when he has full confidence that he is a good AFL player where he picks up 20+ touches and kicks a couple of goals. I have to say the kicking skills of our draft picks are very good, Toumpas elite, Kent kicks like Rich from Bne low hard and longer than most expect, Terlich, M Jones and Clisby, Viney is also good. Our tall forwards will be looking forward thinking thank god we have players that can kick to their advantage. 1 Quote
Dee Fan 3,247 Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 Christ fancy you complaining about different opinions, you should practice what you preach, I hope when I finally get to your age that I'm more level headed than you. For your sake I hope you are a bit smarter by then, though I doubt it. No need to reply you are about to join the other idiot on my ignore list and you have to be pretty stupid to get on there. Quote
dazzledavey36 56,334 Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 This guy is a running machine and i was shocked too. He spreads, runs hard to contests but gets ignored by teamates. They need to bring him more into the game to utiloze his kcking skills. 1 Quote

They need to bring him more into the game to utiloze his kcking skills. Another handful of games and a good preseason will help immensely. That and team mates on the field like Viney . JV wont ignore Dimitri !! Part of the problem ( seriously ) is that Toumpas runs to where you can and should. For the better part of the last 18 months or so they have been conditioned to send the ball to positions that dont coincide with this kind of thinking ( spread ) It'll work out. Its also beholding on the Toump to make his case, be authorative but that will only come with time. ( and experience ) Edited July 2, 2013 by belzebub59 1 Quote
DeeMfc 621 Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 (edited) 171254-jimmy-toumpas.jpg This pic exibits the exact reason why Jimmy cant be compared to Wines right now. Wines was a ready made player (pic taken pre draft) with a full preseason under his belt. Jimmy had a double hip operation, a shortened pre season and is 2 years behind in physical development. Once Jimmy gets rid of the baby fat and strengthens his core I think we will have a gun on our hands. I was in the pick Ollie Wines boat pre draft because I wanted someone to be ready made in our midfield. In hindsight I believe we made the right choice in Jimmy as his skills and execution are streets ahead of Wines. We just have to give him at least a couple more pre seasons to compare. Curry & Beer 5,444 Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 We just have to give him at least a couple more pre seasons to compare. 64 games into Jack Watts' career he had the breakout game last week, at season 5 his worth is STILL being discussed... I don't know why anyone even bothers thinking about it for first year players... it is truly absurd IMO even a bloke like Trengove is in his 4th year and I am not comfortable forecasting anything about him, because you just don't know, nobody does 4 Quote
BrisbaneDemon 1,575 Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 I honestly believe if Viney was up and running that this thread would have died by now. We couldn't draft all in and under midfielders when you have Jones, Mckenzie and Viney locked away. I really dislike that everyone has jumped on Toumpas expecting him to be as soft as butter in his first year then Watts. Congrats to Ollie for proving the doubters wrong, GWS, Melbourne, Bulldogs passed on him so he has surprised a few, have GWS's no 2&3 picks even played this year?!?. If we have implemented the proper structures to developed our youth this pick wont be a mistake. You can't paint everyone with the same brush. Give him time, I personally think he's tracking really strongly. Prove the doubters wrong Toooouuuuummmmpppp! 1 Quote
titan_uranus 25,255 Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 And it doesn't mean he won't be. Bias ? It's unbelievable the bias that supporters on this site have. Extraordinary really. Well I guess that means we agree. So you're clearly another [censored] who subscribes to the 'you don't know what you're talking about if you haven't played AFL before'. No I'm the one who said that I think they would have more of a clue, which wouldn't be hard, than a fwit like you. One of the only benefits of a world where only AFL players could comment on football would be your absence from it. I think this board would benefit more without the know it all [censored] that spills from your mouth. If you wish to go down the 'he's had a better first year, therefore he's going to be a better player' route, then go for it, but history has shown that the start a player makes to their career doesn't always reflect the career overall. Tell that to Judd, Fyfe, Jonathan Brown etc.. You're obviously one who thinks(?) that if a player starts his career well it's all down hill after that. I can cope with a Wines/Toumpas comparison, but not as much with a 'Wines is better than Toumpas' whinge. What you can't cope with is someone having a different opinion to you; get used to it. The irony in your last sentence is enjoyable, really. Quote
Dee Fan 3,247 Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 Well I guess that means we agree. The irony in your last sentence is enjoyable, really. I have no problem with people having a differing opinion than me, I enjoy debating them, it would be a fairly poor forum if we all agreed. I notice you had no answer to my other points, I guess you'd prefer just to have a go at me instead; that doesn't surprise me at all. Quote

They were these: You called me a 'fwit' You said [censored] spills from my mouth You said I believe that players who start well go downhill from there. Of course, that's not what I said, but what do you care? I didn't respond to these points because you didn't deserve a response. Quote

Bossdog 2,002 Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 I played footy in the 60's with a kid that shirked the issue often. He grew a bit and became the toughest SOB at full back for Port Melb. His name Bob Proffit I played against and then with Bob......He had those "crazy" eyes......A top bloke.... Quote
dazzledavey36 56,334 Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 (edited) 21 disposals 7 tackles and was clean today. Was by far jimmy's best game this year and starting to look like he is adjusting to the tempo. Will be a very good footballer for us for many years to come. Another pre season, bigger, faster and more confidence will do him well. Keep it up Jimmy! Was just interviewed on triple M and said that he had little pre season and found it hard at the start but now he is getting more confident and running out games well. Bang Bang Bang 5,875 Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Agreed, I'm a Toumpas fan and I think today was his best game. He reminds me a bit of Trapper in that he seems to have a cool head and invariably uses it well by foot. 1 Quote

Great game from the kid, hes already better than Trengove, i would put JT on the trade table, he offers very little and is just not up to it. Quote
Deeoldfart 8,201 Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Jimmy is involving himself more and is progressing nicely. I get the impression that he listens to what he is told and works hard to follow through on advice and instructions. Very confident that he is one recruitment decision we won't regret in years to come. Quote
ThreeOneSix 954 Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 If Ricciuto reckons Toumpas is going to be a star, then take it to the bank. Good game by Toumpas today. 2 Quote
Jordie_tackles 354 Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 He doesnt look quick but still seemed to have time to make the right decisions and put his body on the line when required will only grow from here. Quote
whatwhat say what 23,855 Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 his ball use was excellent. but he missed an opportunity to take a mark in defence in the second quarter because he was scared of the hit - had an 'uncontested spoil' instead. once he backs himself to take those grabs he'll be good. we desperately need the likes of viney and [insert draft pick(s) here] to get the ball on his hands. he's a lovely kick. 2 Quote

Great game from the kid, hes already better than Trengove, i would put JT on the trade table, he offers very little and is just not up to it. Harsh to say trade table, but no doubt Trengove needs to stand up and not be satisfied with 17 disposal games like he's been dishing up. Quote
Ted Lasso 19,586 Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 He is abit like Scott Pendelbury in that when he has the ball his skills mean he will be able to open sides up and do damage, Clark Dawes and Hogan are going to love seeing him with ball in hand through the middle for years to come. Quote
