Yeah, I wouldnt be in a rush to trade both. What we should remember is that all these wonderfully able Mids did originally come from somewhere in a draft, and not always the sharper end. They are there and lthey require development. Granted not our forte for some whiles but we do seem to have gotten a little better.

if we could trade for someone half way decent and also use a selection to bring a potential into the fold then that would be my preference. But im only an amateur at this and I think theres been more than a few at the club of recent times so maybe my input is worth nada lol

We look to trade #1 (Boyd) because the next half dozen are all around equally rated and mids and Boyd is a standout. Knightmare on Bigfooty rates Boyd above Hogan on his power ratings.

I don't know how he could rate him higher. Hogan has kicked 30 goals playing VFL against MEN not boys. I would personally have Hogan ahead due to this fact.

The reality is KM doesnt bat a 100%, no one does. Its a bit of a call , for mine , lauding him as such off the back of kiddie games only. Have no doubt that Boyd may be pretty good but then many a 1st pick nominee has had a lot of unwarranted heraldry about them . From the limited Ive seen ...and that means TV /internet for Boyd and Training /Internet/TV and a couple of Casey visits for Hogan I would think the Hulk has it. Theres a better footy brain inside Jesse whilst the Boyd has a big footprint on a game I dont think he has that certain panache. Boyd is a big fish in little ponds currently. Hogan is tearing it up in the deeper water.

I agree with you and these are not my views. I saw Hogan play on Saturday and was extremely impressed, so I got a bit of a shock when I saw that KM ranked Boyd higher.

I hope Boyd is seen as better if we get #1. While it would be difficult to trade a future star, we just don't need a KPF.

If I had the Boyd pick I would be asking Carlton for Murphy and they would have to consider, so yeah it's always worth asking the question.

I don't think they would, rjay. Murphy holds the key to any hopes they might have of a flag. If they added Boyd and didn't have Murphy in the midfield to deliver it to him, with Judd a year or two away from retirement, they'd have to hope Judd could carry the midfield single-handedly. Not going to happen and Carlton wouldn't be stupid enough to deem this the case.

While we have not been great at developing players deerule I don't believe it has been our biggest problem.

A large number of our early picks have been just plain poor.

No amount of great development would have turned them into anything more than they were.

Winning 3 more games this year has nothing to do with the priority pick and if we get one or two I guarantee it won't be second round.

As I said earlier don't look a gift horse in the mouth...we need picks if we are to compete with GWS or GC in a couple of years time, if you are happy for us to improve a bit and sit mid level for a few years but not be a serious contender then stay with your current thinking.

I know you blokes are craving this priority pick like some sort of miracle cure, and to hell with what other clubs think or how history will view it. It's not exactly a view I share, but I get it.

However there are 15 other clubs who will also be struggling to compete with two expansion clubs that have been absolutely stockpiled with top end talent. So saying we'll need this pick to compete with them in a few years time, most other clubs would be saying the same thing.

I agree with rjays description and I'll add that if we don't get one I won't be jumping up and down.

If we get one I'll take it because we need all the help we can get. If we don't qualify for one I'd argue that no one will ever qualify until they have had 8 years like our last 7 which I hope no supporters ever have to go through.
