Are they mids?

As long as it's a PP before R1 or after our 1st pick, otherwise don't bother, Gill.

If its a first round Priority we take these two Mids. No question.

#2 Melbourne – James Aish (SA – Mid/Def)
Height: 183cm, Weight: 74kg, DOB: 08/11/1995
Recruited from: Norwood
Style: Trent Cotchin
Player comparison:
Range: 1-3
Profile: Aish is an elite user of the footy and just has more time and space than the next player. In space, in traffic, it doesn’t matter for Aish. He remains composed and never seems rushed. By both hand or foot he consistently uses it well and is one of the more duel sided players you’ll see at this young age and uses it at an elite disposal efficiency. Strong mark overhead for his size and has a strong 1v1 game despite his lean build. Aish is an impressive athlete with his ability to sidestep and has a real burst of speed on him in a straight line also. Aish still needs to get stronger but that will come. Despite his lean build he is not a soft outside player and is very willing to get his hands dirty and go hard when it’s his turn but is certainly more outside at this stage and likely starts his career on a wing or back flank.

#4 St Kilda - Luke Dunstan (SA –Mid/Fwd)
Height: 185cm, Weight: 83kg, DOB: 29/01/1995
Recruited from: Woodville-West Torrens
Style: Dustin Martin (Better leader)
Player comparison:
Range: 3-7
Profile: Dunstan is a dominant inside midfielder with a strong body. Has future captain potential having captained SA through the u18 championships and is highly regarded for his leadership abilities. Really damaging player who will not only win his own footy every time he goes in for it but then will do big damage with it. Dunstan has very damaging footskills and is a really natural finisher anywhere near goal. Has very clean hands and is also an excellent inside extractor who will win those clearances consistently. Not only is Dunstan an exceptional inside player but he can also swing forward, take a mark and hit the scoreboard when given the opportunity and I expect he will continue to be a very damaging player at the next level. Ready to play from season one.

I find it very difficult to argue with people who say we don't deserve a PP. The number of high draft picks we've pi$$ed away in recent years is staggering.

If the assistance we are receiving doesn't include a PP, I won't be complaining.

if we were to be given a PP after our first rounder and we decided to draft kids as opposed to trading them, then surely we'd go for midfield grunt and polish.

imo it would be one of Aish/Sheed and with the other Dunstan/Crouch. I know the whole mantra of best available, but our midfield is so dire, we really do need to draft for need.

I don't understand that argument. We also have pi$$ed away money in recent years, so on that argument we don't deserve financial help. What do we 'deserve'? Deserve is not the right word. If the AFL wants us to not go down the gurgler and be competitive then they should help us in whichever ways achieve that goal most efficiently. If that involves a PP, so be it. To those Demon supporters who say 'we don't deserve it', I say get a hairshirt and do some old fashioned self-whipping if it makes you feel more pure. :>) To other people who say it, I'd just repeat what I said above.

I find it hard to argue with too, because it is so illogical that I can't get my head around how to reason through it.

Give us a 3rd rounder we seem to do better with later picks.

we don't deserve a 1st round pp we have wasted so many top 20 picks and stuffed our club up ourselves with bad management. I would be filthy if I was one of the other 17 clubs if the afl handed us a pp In the first round . We need to succeed on smart management and operations we have proven it won't come via handouts

There needs to be a message pinned at the top of every whiny article about Melbourne getting a supposed free ride that says "You cannot be too crap to receive a priority pick".

As I get older I realise theres a lot I dont understand ( a lot I do , just thought Id get in first ) but theres much that happens and in reality you just have to think, well , how about that. So if the AFL in its magnificent wisdom ( or panic of our demise and associated knock-ons ) thinks its a good idea to provide truckloads of folding stuff and to add to that byfurbishing a PP who am I to argue. Not that what I would say would matter.

In reality just one word suffices : THANKYOU

If we get another pp, it's shameful.

Wouldn't mind an extra good-quality mid though.

I find it pretty easy to justify.... if you actually look the rules and how they are evaluated, past drafting history has NOTHING to do with it.

It is based on performance over a period of time, continual lack of success is the real factor.

We could blow a million picks in a row and it has no impact.

This sums up the very sad state of our supporters & the idiots who ran our club over the last 5yrs & created a poor culture

Looking for a quick fix!

Melbourne dont need a PP.......

We need strong culture, strong structures, strong development.

I keep on saying look @ Swans & Geelong development & culture who continue to bring on late picks!

Melbourne dont need a PP.......

We need strong culture, strong structures, strong development.

How about we get both

How about we get both

Yeah thats happened in the last 5+ yrs!

Listen to Craigs presser

Its the club responsibility to ensure that we provide the correct environment on development & strong culture & ensure we keep players....not the other way around!

Scully, money aside I dont blame him for leaving......the trainwreck that was occuring was evident to him & the $$$ just made that decision easy!

Lol at supporters who don't want us to get a priority pick.

I want all/any advantages we can get.

If the AFL decide the way to 'save' us is to give us a bucket-load of PP's (hmm, like GWS), that's fine by me. If supporters feel embarrassed about that in front of supporters of other teams then they need to harden up. (And if the Dogs need one too, that's fine by me.)

I have no problem with the club getting a priority pick.

We need to get some talent in to the side or the money, new admin and coach won't be worth a bean; the AFL know this and they also know nothing will change unless we do.

Essentially, if you don't think the MFC should get any draft assistance - you don't believe anyone should get any draft assistance ever again.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.
