Roos said he wont coach anywhere in 2014

why are people still talking about him?

Well, perhaps we like to live in Lloyd Christmas' (paraphrased) world:

PJ: What do you think the chances are of a team like us and a coach like you... ending up together?

Roos: Well, PJ, that's difficult to say. I mean, we don't really...

PJ: Hit me with it! Just give it to me straight! I came a long way just to see you, Roosy. The least you can do is level with me. What are my chances?

Roos: Not good.

PJ: You mean, not good like one out of a hundred?

Roos: I'd say more like one out of a million.

...pause...

PJ: So you're telling me there's a chance... *YEAH!*

Definitely one of Jim Carey's best movies to this day :P

That's the problem, he didn't say that. He continues to say "not at the moment".

If you read more than the headlines that becomes clear.

Whoever we do get, they will have a better chance to succeed than Mark Neeld had.

Any players who don't want to be at our club, off ya go, go on, roll along.

"F-Off to Carlton" - Brent Moloney

That or you can create a place where everyone will be fighting for contracts (all starts with getting the best possible people into the club).

As for Ling I don't see any position higher than an assistant coach (midfield role) - he has no training I believe. Having said that an assistant midfield coach or midfield mentor role would be perfect for him and he is well worth the money.

List decisions are being made because you have to make decisions, not because we have our coach and he is whispering what to do.

The easy decisions are being made and the tougher ones will be made once we have a coach I am sure, but don't mistake a list decision as anything deeper than an easy list decision done by a club that has some easy decisions to make.

Good call - A club can't just bunker down and stop making decisions whilst waiting for a coach. Fitzy is a good prospect and Watts is looking like a deserter - Fitzy is a required player (forward/rucks don't grow on trees). The suggestions that we already have a coach lined up are silly - the interviews are still going and the coaching selection panel are not going to just make a hasty decision again (unless its Roos - maybe then).

From that article:

"Clearly through the process you start thinking about coaching again, but if the question is put to me, 'Will you coach Melbourne?' or 'Will you coach Brisbane?' the answer is no at this particular time."

"I'm mindful of never saying never, simply because people will say 'Oh you said back then that you'd never coach again'," he said. "So I'm not going to say that because I really don't know."

Like I said. Read past the headlines.

I think it is unlikely we will get Roos. That said, Roos is not the type of guy who will fuel expectations, while there are incumbents in current jobs. He will make his final decision at years end. Not sooner.

I read past the headlines...... until the quote "I’ve said to both of them definitively that I’m not interested in doing it."

I believe him (he is no James Hird).

if i were to attempt any reading between lines i would go with; he may well coach in 14 but it will be neither US nor the lions.

and again we will wait lol

The longer Whoosha remains unsigned at WCE the more likely it is that Roos will coach in the West and Whoosha get the Dees gig:)

Yeah though the blonde bird (can't remember her name because I choose not to) interviewed him before the Geelong game at Patersons on AFL Game Day and he said he just wanted to make sure he was 110% up for another season and if he does go on, it will be West Coast only.

Still not too sure how much that holds these days.

Glenn Bartlett said today that a proven track record in player development and development programs were required for our next coach,

Choco and Eade both have this but i'm not sure Craig does, the crows were already fairly strong when he took over

Had a fair bit to do with Dangerfield............

Most clubs have some senior players/leaders when a new coach takes over.....MFC is the exception; they have none.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los
