Boom! This is what I'm thinking also, we'll end up with Sheed.

Reckon Boyd will end up at Carltank, they'll come up with some deal with GWS for pick 1. Their first pick + Warnock and Yarran for other picks or something like that.

They get Thomas if they want him as an RFA so why give up no 1 and Collingwood may not be be in the market anyway. They have Cloke and could do with another but it depends a bit on how they see Paine and Grundy coming on. Would they pay the price, it would need to be someone they won't want to lose.

Warnock is of no use to GWS as they will have Bellchambers and Giles as a back up. Gibbs might do it for them, Yarran on his own wouldn't. Carlton will have to make the play, they are desperate and they have players with currency...will they spend.

That is spot on 'Ben', but it's looking like it won't be an issue unless GWS pull a couple of wins starting with the doggies this weekend.

From what I hear a deal has been done for Bellchambers and in my opinion he is streets ahead of Warnock who is too one dimensional. Carlton would have to give up something good to get pick one, I can't see them giving up Murphy so it might have to be Gibbs. GWS need key defenders but Carlton are light on there, I think Carlton might not be on the rise they think they are.

Collingwood...maybe Brown or Reid or they would want someone like Beams.

Essendon have a surplus in some areas but they might have a deficit by the end of the season, if not they could get involved in a 3 way deal.

Agree that it's only the power clubs who could get involved but some of the pretenders ie: Carlton don't have a lot to offer and will get desperate.

The problem with trading pick 1 is the other club virtually has to give up the face of there club, not many teams will do that , it will be interesting to see how it will pan out, would anyone hear trade Chip for Boyd? I sure wouldn't because its sends a message to the rest of the .players that everyone is on the table, it's not a good look.

If Howe doesn't show anything in the middle, he won't be apart of the 'right midfield.'

If Hogan, Dawes, Clark, and Gawn are enough in the forward line, Watts can be traded for someone apart of the 'right midfield.'

While i do agree that Tom Boyd looks impressive

The thought of both Boyd and Hogan conjures up thoughts of the best twin tower forward line we have ever had

That being said we are not likely to be in the position to select him anyway

GWS would be crazy not to take advantage of having Boyd as its bargaining chip and it can only do that if it finishes last which is a good bet

IMO if i was GWS i would take Boyd being a standout will not come around very often

It is highly unlikely we will get a priority pick

It is obvious to most that Melbourne needs to draft midfielders and with the abundance of midfielders in this draft we should be able to get at least 1 genuine a grader and maybe another who falls a little lower than expected

While our performances have been terrible i don't think our midfield stocks are all doom and gloom

I like Tom Boyd although I hope we don't get the option of obtaining him. Ultimately we need midfielders and or maybe another defender like Sharenburg. As much as I would like Boyd we already have Clark, Dawes, Watts, Howe and Hogan as forwards and yet desperately lacking in midfield depth. I hope we don't get the option of obtaining him to avoid some form of headache and so the recruiters can focus on trying to obtain the best midfield or best prospect (I hope they get it right with all the options as it's already a headache to decide).

I just had a thought about the whole Boyd situation and GWS saying they'll trade the pick. We could trade for him, but it would mean giving up one of our already big fish, but would avoid us giving up a key developing midfielder.

What do people think. It might not be enough as I believe that GWS would want 2 experienced players, but I'm getting more and more concerned about Clark's foot. This way we would have a Hogan/Boyd combination developing together for 10-12 years, supported by Dawes, Watts, Howe + crumbing forward.

I've always dismissed the thought of getting Boyd because of the tall timber we already have, but Clark can be the Ruckmen/Forward GWS want and need.

We've intentionally kept Clark as mainly a FF who just pinch hits in the ruck to allow Jamar Rest.

There is nothing to suggest that Boyd, who is 199cms and 102kgs, could do the same thing. Clark is only 1cm taller than Boyd and 3kgs lighter, so I don't see any problem with getting Boyd, or maybe Fitzpatrick to pinch hit in the ruck.

We could then keep our 1st round pick to acquire another mid like Aish, and have even more money to throw at an established midfielder once you take Clark's salary off the books.

This is how trading and free agency works in other sports like the NBA where it has been in place for years. Trade an already established A grader with currency in the market for a potential A grader in the draft, clear some salary space and then go shopping to fill other team needs.

Imagine how much more attractive our team looks to a free agent like Daisy when we have an extra $500k per annum free and a future forward line with Hogan and Boyd, along with developing mids like Toumpas, Viney, Kent plus guys like Nathan Jones and even Sylvia. Gotta think out of the box sometimes.

I am all for being ruthless to get some mids into the team but trading Clark is not the way. Looking past the fact that his foot, while I hear it is on the mend, would render his trade value near worthless.

Dawes is a battering ram that will take pressure of Hogan, and Clark is a athletic CHF that can also be 2nd ruck.

If we want to be ruthless we should be looking in the direction of Watts and Howe and while I understand people have issues trading them. It would make more sense than Clark.
