KC, is that a positive step for Maia and a backward one for Barry? And what can you tell us about Koo?

RTG IMO to make it as an AFL player you have to have the correct body shape and the necessary amount of skills / talent.

If you are built like a rake then you have to have a large over supply of skill and talent.

From the occasions I have seen him at training and Casey Barry has too much of the former and is way down in the second.

Don't hold much hope for him.

There are not many Robert Flowers in any 20 year period.

Boy! I don't disbelieve you but what have you seen specifically?

Body wise he must be in the bottom couple of percent of AFL players, you have to be very good to over come that defficinency.

I see nothing above average ability.

FFS. You obviously haven't seen him enough. He's not the skinny rake ill informed Demonland posters will have you believe. He has long limbs which maybe creates that illusion, and also needs to build up his core strength, but he's not a skinny rake, has great skills and aggression, and I think (with the right development) he will DEFINITELY make it.

Absolute rubbish. Either you're making this stuff up or you need stronger bifocals OD.

I saw him live during preseason training. I didn't think his lack of size was an " illusion"!

I've seen him "live" at training and at Casey. He's no tank, that's for sure, but he's not this fragile skinny Morton-like character some here seem to want to panic about.

Because someone has a different opinion to you does not mean it is necessarily wrong stuie.

You have a different opinion time will prove one of us incorrect.

However i do have a very strong objection to your suggestion I am making this up.

I have seen him at approx a dozen training sessions, two Casey games live and one on TV.

Now I might be incorrect or incompetent but a liar I am not.

So why is he not progressing?

Think he needs to be thought of as a project type player. He won't play AFL this year. My expectation is he'll start to get a chance lateish next year.

I really rate the kid. Has great attitude, aggression at the ball, and really reminds A LOT of Michael Long.

Now now Stuie. I don't want to get involved in a debate here and raise your blood pressure but Barry is 183 and 70 compared to the rather strappind Morton at 193 and 88.

Fair enough, didn't mean to come across so strong OD, just seems like a lot here make things up. Must just mean you need stronger glasses.... haha

In my small mind I have pictured him as a Jeff Garlett type build and player?

As I said stuie it is just my opinion

I cannot leave it without asking how is it that he struggles to get a game in Casey seniors?

I am not trying be smart it just confirms my opinion.

From what I've seen he's struggling with 2 main things:

1) The speed of the defensive pressure

2) Understanding his role in the structures and game plan

Number 2 will come with natural learning and maturity, number 1 does worry me but I'm hoping that at his age he can make adjustments during his development.

Too many Cook's spoil the broth...

I like Barry, I think he's a while off, but I have hopes for him.

I too have hopes for Barry Stuie, but I don't think the early signs are good.

I see you've conveniently ignored Bitter But Optimistic's post about the weight - Barry is as far from playing a senior game as anyone on our list. The fact that he is 19 (and not a rookie) and is still so far away from a senior game is not a great start. I'm not dismissing him as a failure but he is going to have to shape up pretty quickly and throw on a few kilos - we already have enough players on the list that are 'a while off'.

Barry has as a good tank and skills just needs to bulk up. Is a good character and very determined aswell. I hope he makes it.

The fact Barry is playing this week doesn't necessarily mean he's gone backwards. Could be an opportunity to get a full game into him whilst its available and then when the Dees go to Darwin he can have his week off then. That would be clever management

Yeah, I just kept noticing that he wasn't getting a gig at VFL level and wondered

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

A couple of intrepid Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock for the midweek Preseason Training Session to bring you the following observations. Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
