Good Luck Captain Jones

Disclaimer: I really think Grimes in particular had stepped up the captain stakes this year & still have faith Trenners will once he's 100% right. I don't wan this to degenerate into another thread bagging the footy department for their choices for captain. I think the whole footy world can see we've put a lot of pressure & responsibility on 2 very young blokes, rightly or wrongly, and most of us agree it is wrongly.

This is a thread to celebrate my favourite player Nathan Jones!

I've been a huge Jones fan since day 1, he's been much maligned prior to recent years, I think too much was expected from him too early, especially given the culture he walked into (sound familiar). Today he gets his chance to lead the boys officially and I reckon he is going do a sensational job of it!! I don't care what jumper he followed as a kid, right now he is the bloke who really bleeds for the club, literally & figuratively.

Good luck Jones, you have worked very hard & deserve it, go smash em today boys!!!

certainly did, if i look as fit as that at the age of 43 i'll be a happy man!

On a more related note, Nathan Jones does Stinga's number 2 guernsey proud.

Both fantastic players of the club.

as Wayne Carey said on Triple M yesterday "Nathan Jones is single-handedly holding that club together"

They went on to say how he would be considered a superstar if he played for Geelong or Collingwood.

Yep, all the best to him today and for the remainder of the year whether it be as CC or vice.

Great player who never drops his head and has forged his way to this position on the back of hard work and self improvement.

what a huge day in the life of this young man

it is really just dumb luck that both captains are injured and he has been elevated, meaning he leads to side out as a sole captain.. although i'm sure he is aware that everybody knows he belongs there

he really has earned this moment the hard way

now as the club leader, with the club against the ropes, he faces the brilliant Ablett opposite him in the midfield

he would be as determined as he has ever been to put in a good one today and I'm sure he will

PS I'm with you Ron, keep him on as a third captain when the Jacks return for sure

He has flourished under the Neeld regime.

Seemed to be on the outer under Bailey for some reason.

Hope they maintain him as Co Captain following the return of Grimes. The Swans had three Co Captains in 2005.

See, we respect Jones for his work ethic and he's thriving under Neeld. What does that tell you about the guys who are failing under Neeld?

Even Mitch Clark is playing better since arriving at Melbourne, then you consider Tapscott, matt jones, Grimes, Sylvia, Gawn, Howe, Terlich, Garland, Evans, and probably more are all playing their best footy, the step up in Training may well be starting to pay off.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
