For the same reason we don't give out the results of the pre-season 3 km time trial, why we have closed training sessions, and why the injury list is always a bit of a furphy: we don't want other teams to know what we've been doing, what we've been taking, and who we've been working with.

Bing, I don't think anyone is suggesting that we should have told the world we had an association with Dank, but we sure as hell should have told the AFL. Lying to head office is a recipe for disaster, and that's what we've ended up with.

Not just the AFL...

As soon as the Bombers blew themsleves up in Feb we should have done it the next day.

It's just common sense PR: it's going to get out, get it out yourself and do some damage control.

No. A weak supporter is one that demands change before all the facts are known.

If this whole thing is proven to be as bad as is being made out then I'll be on board with you guys calling for a spill, but I'm just trying to not jump too early.

Which "whole thing"?

The fact the board admitted it hasn't met any of its targets?

That's what I cannot fathom. My reading of the situation is that Don never wanted to be Prez, hence his cajole of Jimmy in the first place. What defies belief is that he hasn't given up the Presidency sooner. It's had to get to a dire position before he and the board seem to have acted. I'd also like to know who brought Freeman in. Was it DM or another powerbroker?

Perhaps, the line of thinking was to ensure stability within the club, in the wake of Jimmy's passing, but the mantle should have been passed by now.

Freeman was brought in from outside DM wont and doesnt like it

Sadly but realistically the purge will more than likely continue until the on field results improve. I say sadly because a purge based on emotion not objective assessment will throw lots of babies out with the bathwater.

What are you talking about - Freeman is a Foundation Hero.

That is hardly 'The Outside.'

I am not saying that he should be President but he certainly sdoesn't look like he is being thrust into the club the way Jackson does.

Jackaub was saying that Freeman was brought in outside of McLardy. ie. It wasn't McLardy's decision.

I have heard this too.

EDIT. At least that's the way I read the post.

Well that's good if true because there's no point in McLardy hand-picking his replacement when the club has fallen apart under his watch.

I guess the failure of EW also extends to Victory and Storm.

I would agree with you if it was just one team, but the fact that all three failed their due dilligence is a crock. I think alot of people here are getting mixed between what we know now and what we knew back then.

And I believe the correct due dillegence was taken, shown by other teams from other codes also taking them as a sponsor.

No, it didn't add up to me at the time of the announcement. It was not right and it didn't take a lot of thinking through to see it. The other clubs can please themselves but you figure how a company the size of EnergyWatch could afford to sponsor one club even as a secondary sponsor let alone the figures they were talking for us as major sponsor and then add on top of that the other sponsorships.

It never did add up in the first place.

...and that's what Geelong and GC did on the next day and nothing has been heard of it since.

Actually, that's what many (most?) are suggesting: "we should have released this statement in February". As for lying, I don't know that any of us have the full facts, but on what I've read, hard to see where we actually lied.

The AFL likes to be seen to be irreprochable model citizens, but on everything from player payments to rotations etc., the clubs are always going to push against this. This seems to be another case where we've pushed up against that line, but whether we've crossed it ... I don't see it at the moment. Not to mention, AD is against the growing influence of sports science, and we've certainly touched a raw nerve in that regard.

never mind the details of what was done right or wrong in any of these matters - the club is burning down, and we need someone who can put out the fire. Step aside spectators/fools/whatever, and make room for the people we need.

comparisons with any other club or any other spectators is pretty much just the fashion reporter's take on the mess, at this stage. The management of the club, all its staff, have been useless while this fire got going, and with more flames leaping out of one crack after another, it threatens to engulf us altogether. We desperately need some decisive people here who can stop this stuff happening!

They are not saying that at all. Everyone is angry that we have misled the AFL on a serious issue.

The AFL have been clear to clubs as to what is expected. MFC have breached that trust.

Has Stuie voted 20 times?

I actually didn't vote because I think the timing of it makes it about as relevant as a Range Rover poll...

While Don is doing the best he can and working as hard as he can. The lack of control by the board over the club is worrying, though this disconnect may been from the management style of CS? We wont know until we have a new CEO in place and whether this lack of control and knowledge continues. It looks like the board did not know what is really happening in the club under CS watch. For know we wait for another investigation.

We need new blood in the club.

Look at the rest of the AFL. We are dragging way behind.

It is time for Don to stand aside.

I've spoken to a couple of people today, one who knew Peter Jackson in his Essendon days and another through football Victoria. They both tell me he is a good bloke, clear thinker and a real hard nut who once he makes a decision makes sure it happens. He will steamroll it through and doesn't let anyone get in his way.

So 'WYL' he maybe just the man for the job of getting this club back on track. There will be a few damaged egos by the time he's through I'm guessing.

He has to go because since Jimmy died the club hasn't made ONE positive move, its been all downhill. I say that but l wanted him to do well because his Auntie was a very close friend of my Mum's but its not working and he has to go.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
