Was it just me??

But was the umpiring in the 3rd quarter yesterday easily the worst quarter of umpiring you have ever seen? Im deff not saying that is why we had such a bad quarter or anything like that but by golly it was bad.

the worst one for me was when Kennedy got the free 10m out against garland for holding, yet garland was one who got thrown around by kennedy.

Yep, that one was quite strange! Should've been Garland's free.

But - made little difference in the end, Kennedy is a very good player and football smart!

It was definitely inconsistent. Clark was manhandled on a couple of occasions in marking contests with no free, yet Kennedy and Darling each got frees for the same thing. I really didn't like the high tackle calls for Ashton Hams; he ducked on every occasion and threw his head back before contact was made. There were also several passages of play where holding the ball should have been called but it wasn't and it ultimately led to a West Coast goal. Even if the umpiring was fair though, we were dominated and it wouldn't have made a difference.

Holding off the ball and in the marking contest is a point of focus in everygame I see. so players need to adjust. BTW Garland had the free paid against him because he was looking at the player and not the ball. Annoying but correct.

Absolutely the umpiring was crook in that quarter. What was most worrying was that it helped WC get off to a flying start in the second half and our blokes quickly dropped their heads.

Annoyingly, the incompetent who paid that free to Kennedy after he threw Garland aside, was the same drongo who refused to reward Clark when he was mauled.

I know it did not change the four points, but it changed the extent of the loss for us, and hurt us when confidence was being built.

When you're second to the ball you're going to get calls against, good or bad.

This team gets a lot of calls against it, many bad, because it plays lazy, reckless football.

The Eagles were always going to run away.

That Hams one in the forward pocket was ridiculous! He stopped for a moment then made a conscious decision to drop his knees as he went through the tackle. And the one earlier in the game, he actually threw his arm up which forced the tacklers arm up to his head

All within the rules, adjust to it. Have our players not been having specialised tackling training all preseason. Go low, get the shoulder in, drive with the legs through there hips? Lets get to a game and forget all of that and just hang the arm out.

Every player in the comp would be told to prepare for Hams chitty, cheap drop the knees, raise the arms technique.. And to prepare for it if the players can't adjust who's fault is that?

Yes it's within the rules to do it, but if you duck and are taken high, it's meant to be play on.

Also, wasn't there discussion about suspending players who staged for free kicks?

How about when they didn't pay the one where Clark was held on and thrown to side yet the pay the one where garland apparently manhandled Kennedy!

And we had a former AFL player umpiring too..

There are plenty of rules that umpires are red hot on early in the season then go cold on. I saw a Freo player dive at the feet of an Essendon player and get a free for high contact. I thought the rules were brought in so that it should have been the other way round. There were a lot of frees the umpires missed yesterday. Sure it wouldn't have made much difference to the result, but they should be given on merit. They are still inconsistent as ever, with contact up one end resulting in frees given to West Coast, but ignored dow the other end. Very frustrating.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
