Just returned from AAMI park tonight after watching The Storm smash the West Tigers.

Sitting 4 rows back and having a great time was Jack Watts, Ricky Pettard (Had a Tigers cap on), Lyndon Dunne. Tom MacDonald, Joel Mcdonald, Chip Frawley & Tom Gilles.

I can report the boys where enjoying the game, no alcohol in sight and seemed to be in good spirits.

Jack Watts was very animated all game, almost hypo & doing some fairly entertaining dance moves after every Storm Try.

Hard to get a read on Jacks real personality, definately no sign of any illness & was the centre of attention bordering on class clown within the group.would you rather jack be home in bed in tears? Get a grip !

As shattered as I have been the last two weeks, seeing the boy's up close and personal like that, puts what is happening at the club

into a different perspective for me. They could be moping around feeling sorry for themselves but instead decided to view some elite succesful,

non AFL sport instead. Perfect distraction to release the pressure valve that is currently being tightened.

Not sure what will happen next weekend but I get the feeling these guy's are really hurting and will fire back hard in the coming weeks.

Nah they weren't on show. If Old Man Rivers didn't report this we would have never known. There were no cameras or media there keeping an eye on them, they have every right to hang out as mates after a day of training and have a bit of fun.

However, if they ever fail to take seriously anything involved with the club i.e. training, matches, discussions etc then I would be [censored]. We have no idea what they did all day on Monday. I would imagine it wasn't pretty. Although I guess this does give an insight to Watts personality. I hope he doesn't joke around and not take thing seriously when it comes to the MFC. I have a feeling it might not have been the case in the past...

Don't agree with this. You seriously don't think Neeld overworked them last week? And not to mention a rugby game is way out of training hours. You kill the enjoyment of the players then they want to be traded at the end of the season.

Its not about not having a bit of r n' r or feeling ashamed - or any of that..

(and id hope by now - in the biggest sport in the land, at the highest level - we'd know what it takes to be professional without needing to see it, yeah?)

Its about - not being seen 2 days after the worst performance weve EVER produced on our Mcg - clowning around and joking around like it doesnt matter.. I mean, Saturday was well worse than 186 FFS.

The players shouldnt be seen at all right now - outside of training, game day and normal daily activities.. and id put a media ban on all players at least for a few weeks - why feed those vultures anyway?

..and ive never had a bad thing to say about Wattsy, always positive..

but if he (and he doesnt seem to be) or any other player isnt devestated - and totally pre-occupied with concern and worry to change what is going on at the moment..

then get the F..k out of MY club - dont ever look back - do not pass go and do not collect $200. (No, actually i'll pay you $200 - just FOQ)

Because we are Fitzroy circa 1996 right now..

Lets hope that they looked very carefully at the intensity and the commitment to tackle - if that can be taken away and reproduced next week there will have to be a major lift in the outcome.

Neil Craig was interviewed today and he mentioned the players could take alot of Culture from the Storm.. he loves the way they go.about it and came back last year afyer being written.off after 5 losses in a row..

as a distraction, it isn't too bad, as it is.

But, they better not get into the habit of avoidance & avoiding the pressures of challenging themselves to improve their games & the efforts of winning.

I supect JW is going to need lots of Prodding.... like a cattle prod may help.

Alternative Scenario: Examiner was terrified by the sight of your ring and fled from your advances.

Yeah, I'll bite. I once was team manager for one of my son's Under 19 side in the amateurs. We were graded to play in the highest section in the competition against the traditionally stronger clubs. We lost our first game by 16 goals and our second by 22.

Our coach, who was a former Hawk who played under John Kennedy believed that in order for the players to bond as a team, it was important not only to work hard at training (and that he did) but also for them to get to know each other socially, so they would get together at a different pub after each game (drinking in strict moderation) and talk to each other about their footy and other things. He came up with numerous other ideas that were all designed to ensure that every member of the team was a mate and it worked (cost us a bit in expenses though).

By the middle of the year, we came close to beating the team that thrashed us in the first game (they kicked 0.13 with the wind in the first quarter the second time) and drew in the wet with the mob that beat us by 22 goals in round 2 (at their home ground). We finished the year with 7½ wins and in 6th place which would have been unimaginable when looking back at the end of round 2.

It's not exactly the same in the professional cauldron of AFL but I'm glad the guys are out watching sport and enjoying themselves. There's plenty of time for them to train and that sort of bonding will help them on the field. Read any book on team coaching and you'll realise that you can't turn a group of robots into a successful combination.
