Re: Gawn, do you think we could ditch Sellar and Pedo and have Jamar and Gawn rucking and swapping forward duties? Jamar could find some mojo in the forward line, he's had good stints there before. Would mean a forward lineup like: Blease, Clark, Byrnes, Sylvia, Gawn/Jamar, Howe.

Thoughts after today?

No way Gaun could come in yet. At least another 3 or 4 solid games at Casey. Spencer however, get him in now!

Gawn is playing better though. I'm talking about a ruck combo, as in Jamar rucks half a quarter then "rests" in the goal square while Gawn rucks and vice versa... We've gotta try things.

I'd be pretty keen on that. I think people who are calling for Spencer to come in will have the same frustrations with him as they have with Jamar. He can get a tap out, sure, but around the ground - not a lot. Gawn on the other hand, went into the ruck for half of each quarter, was getting touches around the ground, laying tackles and when he was forward, looked to be an option. Will Gawn kick 4 goals at FF in the Seniors - no way. Will he provide a contest, on today's form, absolutely. He could be anything if he gets himself fit.

Your forward line above lets Sellar or Pedo in the defence and also allows to get rid of Gilles, Stuie - which lets face it, everyone thinks is a good idea.

Whilst I get what you're saying - Spencer wasn't the best big man on the ground today, He is one dimensional. Jamar v 2.0

Gawn could be a good lock in. Would rather see Jetta and Tapscott in the side, at least they like body contact. Perhaps Kent. You can hardly say any of the senior players looked ready.

No he's not. He's aggro got a bit of grunt and he's a lot bigger than 198cm. Completely different picture and sounds like he's EARNED a call up.

Disagree based on what I saw today. Did you go Dockett?

We need to be careful not to shove him in the seniors before his body is ready, no use getting him in for a game and him getting injured, give him another week at casey, then maybe v GWS

Fair point Condemned. Not a bad idea.

I think the ruck combination will be Gawn and Clark when both are fit. Sellar and Pederson can fight it out for a tall defenders role, neither give enough in the ruck or forward.

Posted

What do you mean Sellar took some great contested marks last night? And if he didn't mark it he at least made a contest/got to the ball drop

Sellar seems incapable of marking anything in the forward line but does better when down back; strange that.

For me, Tapscott shouldn't come straight back in after one dominant performance in the twos after doing nothing in the firsts for two or three years. It's things like promoting a player on the back of one good game which breeds a bad culture of laziness and over confidence.

No way is Gawn going to play AFL next weekend - he is not ready physically/mentally. If he is playing well than that justifies us taking it easy - let him find some form and confidence.

Really happy for Gawn Hope he plays vs the Eagles next week

the kid will be a star one day

Tapscott in as a forward for sure

and id promote about 6 others, they all did the right thing and put their hands up for selection

I agree with you but it is either that or retain the players from this week (nicholson gilles sellar etc) - it is a no brainier. We need aggression, competitiveness and confidence

Name one good stint Jamar has had in the forward line Stuie. That must have been in 2010.

Tapscott looked like a different player today. He is a MUST recall. Don't get me wrong, I can see the logic behind keeping Gawn in the 2's - I just think he was a class above Spencer today. So if people want to drop Jamar (which should happen) then I think rucking Gawn/Sellar/Clark might be a better way. I don't know just thinking out loud. Was very happy for Gawny today. Took a HUGE step in the right direction

I agree with the sentiment, but we got flogged by 150pts.......

At least he played extremely well at Casey

2009 actually haha... Kicked 5.

But has on many occasions gone forward and kicked 1 or 2, hasn't been put there since Neeld took over though.

I was about to argue with you and say that having more than 6 changes would only make us worse but then we can't get any worse so any change is a good thing I guess?

Not by any means but one good game should not get you a promotion. Spencer should come back, due more to his strong form at the end of the year and other change will be made but promotion after one good game is not warranted imo. Wholesale changes might not be the answer.

We need to promote players who have tried and demote players who have not, we know our chances of winning against the eagles are very low, so low as to be almost non existent. So make the changes now to see if those demoted want to work hard to early their spot back for the GWS game. We dont want to be trying to drop everyone and experiment for the GWS game as this is likely to be a make or break game for the MFC.

In an ideal world Tappy may have to do it for more than one game, but we are in the land of desperation.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
