Protest!

Recommended Posts

While drafting an email to McLardy et al demanding an explanation for yesterday's humiliation and what he/they propose doing about it, I was also reading the“Perspective” thread where Biffen put forward some quite singular ideas of protest. It caused me to think that many others have also, or are, thinking of how to best voice their disapproval of yesterday's fiasco.

It occurred to me that it was worthy of a thread to raise the issue of a general protest from us - the faithful.

I am suggesting a concerted protest to MFC.

So get your pens and typewriters out and bombard the MFC with our displeasure. If each ‘lander spread the word, surely we could rack up hundreds of emails.

The club needs to hear first hand that we, whose hard earned pays quite a proportion of salaries etc, are really pizzed.

If that doesn’t work maybe Biffen’s proposal for round 7 response is necessary.

I don't think we would be telling them anything they don't know.

To protest seems a bit pointless to me, but I don't blame you really.

I think the booing yesterday had more effect than a few emails would.

A good idea with the emails! What was the round 7 proposal? So much going on I missed it lol!!

I think that is an assumption that is made too often. Ram the message home!

Writing emails are a great idea. However, everyone needs to take a deep breath before sending. Do not be aggressive or make personal attacks or threats, this would achieve nothing at all, we are not the filth.

No we aren't but maybe we should be. As much as we give it to them you have to respect them. I don't condone their actions in the crowd but at least they can go to sleep knowing their club will be alive in the next 10 years. I can't say the same for us.

There is a sense of helplessness. I've written to them and phoned them. I want to do more. I won't be paying money to watch that garbage this year, not until it impoves dramatically. I'm protesting with my feet in that sense.

I just think there has to be something more useful we can do, something that will have more effect...

I'm not sure what that is yet, maybe all of us showing up to the next training and looking them in the eye?

I don't know, I just think emails and letters are a bit ineffectual.

Like most here, I've paid up. I 'll add the request of a refund to my email.

Best protest there is - don't turn up til the team does. Until then they won't get the message.

I agree. They wouldn't give a fig about emails and phone calls.

Vote with your feet. Don't show up. It's the only way when the powers that be have this level of denial.

What - and cruel the club's cash flows altogether?!

Like most things being written here at the moment, that would be a deeply stupid and irrational thing to do.

Get behind the club if you want it to remain viable.

FFS.

I've renewed my membership, against my better judgement.

Won't do anything crazy, like cancelling membership, but will definitely be ringing up tomorrow to take it off auto-renew.

If we are this shithouse next year, I'm done.

If we have another year like the last one, no chance I'll be paying up again. Responsibility has to be taken at some stage. We're clearly inept, but I'll pay up for yet another year to give them yet another chance to right the ship.

I would be even more angry if I received that sort of reply. I would hope that none of us would accept that.

That is a bit silly. What would you expect to be in a personalised email? "Dear x, the details in your email prompted us to realise that all we had to do was X. With thanks, MFC."

If they knew the answer would they be telling anyone personally? Since they clearly don't know the answer, all you can reasonably expect is platitudes. Register your dismay by all means, but it is unreasonable to expect a meaningful response other than the platitudes which most of us could compose.

If I had the dough, I would personally pay for the membership of everyone on this site to ensure that this club had a future for my kids.

I don't have the dough though - so I rely on you guys to continue to sign up yourselves.

I've already seen one club I support go under - don't want it to happen to another.

If any of you are fair dinkum about making changes to the way in which things are run at the MFC, nominate yourself for the Board at the next election.

It's a bit rich to expect others to do it all, and then bag the hell out of them if things aren't going our way.

Perhaps someone should put themselves forward as a Demonland nominee for the Board at the next election ...

I agree with this. Lets find the right candidate and get around them.

As an aside I think we should ask the board members to each sit at different parts of the ground this week and press the flesh with the people that are there to support the Dees (not just members but General Admission, MCC Members, AFL members, everyone). Ask them how they feel, ask them what we need to do to bring the club back to its glory. Stop treating them like they don't get it when they express disgust and instead embrace the fact that they love the club so much they'll sit through 7 years of crap for them. The fans are the heart and soul of any club and the least the board can do is work overtime to maintain its supporters while the club is struggling.

Go into full on public relations mode and get amongst the people. Show them we are one and that we all hurt together.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
