NAB CUP 1: NORTH MELBOURNE AND RICHMOND

Did spencer touch the ball? How much longer does this experiment have to run for? Surely he should be touching the ball by now. "Oh but we should persevere cos dean cox was unco at first". Please stop this joke.

And we got rid of martin..

Great to see Aaron hug Morris post match as though he was a brother, when he'd just been owned by him for 40 mins. Another joke.

Breathe, relax, sit down and remain calm.

Magner, Joel MAc and Jordy Mac still struggle to get a clean disposal away.

We would be screwed without Watts and Tom Mac.

I worry about how Garland and Chip combine in the air-neither will leave their man as enen nuffy Tony Shaw could see.

More positives than Negs.

The kids are great.

Pederson and Kent in the first game looked better and our midfield had more structure with Rodan in it in the first game.

We showed a bit. We look quite fit and a few of our new players were quite promising. Hogan looks the goods and Viney is a real goer. Watts and Dunn were both good down back and we ran the 2nd game out well.

Attack on the ball was good and our overall endeavor was pleasing. Just need to finish better and improve our disposal. Thought our style of play was interesting - we brought the ball back into the corridor nicely and we kicked long and accurately to position on occasions.

We had a whole bunch of new players in and it will take a little while for it to all gel. We didn't let the Tigers get away from us too much. Overall - reasonably pleased. That's a good hit out.

I agree, and I thought the team we fielded in the second game was significantly weaker than the first, so that takes the edge off any disappointment I may have had. Dawes, Byrnes and Hogan with Howe for x-factor made for a forward line that can do damage, and that's without Clark in the picture.

I know BH has been pumping up Kent's tyres since the draft, and I thought tonight vindicated that faith.

All in all I came out of the games feeling pretty good.

would have won the first without that stupid super goal that should not exist.

At the risk of offending you wyl

But we did not win

There is always an excuse

Until we start winning we are just another Melbourne side of the last decade

Spencer, Dunn, Davey... anyone else you would care to put the boot into while you're at it?

Spencer played a reasonable game, Dunn did well for the most part and as someone else mentioned, Davey played almost his best game in two seasons. Considering where those two teams were last year, and considering we have had a MAJOR rebuild, we didn't do too badly.

You keep posting that we didn't look like winning any game.

That's simply not true, but hey don't get the facts get in the way....

But we did not win either match.

Lets remember one side scrapped into the eight last year and the other did not make it.

I am glad we were not playing Hawthorn or the WCE tonight

They need time to gel half the list has been turned over, I will take more out of next week and rest of nab cup because its normal game time I think we finished both games better, so it says we are fit I want to see us over 4 quarters in same game against same opposition round 1 of nab cup is no better than an intra club game

It's not the same as the last decade old dee. There are a lot of new players who CAN play just need time to gel together. On top of that we are coming from a long way back.

Cheer up it will get better.

Funny, after 3 times of claiming we never looked like winning either game, you have backed off on that lie.

Last year we beat the Pies in the preseason, what did that tell us?

Your knowledge of football rates with the quality of football the MFC have served up in the last 6 years...

Macca did we look like winning either game?

No

So we still way behind North and Richmond so we have not come far

They're practice matches OD. I was quite pleased, we didn't win but we ran both games out well and it could have been a damn side worse. I reckon most of us would have taken a close loss or win against North before the game. Watts looks comfortable out there - gee he's got some class - just needs a bit more mongrel - keep the beard, Jack!

We all would have loved a win but realistically we had a much better chance in game 1 - and we only lost by 2 points. It's Friday night mate, go pour yourself a nice single malt and think about how good Hogan, Toumpas and Viney are gonna be for us. ^_^

Not sure. Still a real lack of pace (any news on blease?) and not enough mid field endurance to run forward. They tend to sit behind the ball.

Anyone notice the brilliant chase by Spencer at start of game against Richmond?

Apparently he tweaked the hammy in it. Not sure if true, but he disappeared not long after this point

Without meaning to be rude, does anyone even really care how Dunn and Davey went? I watch games like this so I can learn what to expect from players I haven't seen much of. Surely we're pretty used to these two by now and know what to expect from them. It shouldn't come as a shock to people when they're shown to not be so great.

(For the record, I thought Dunn was okay,)

The last game between Roos and Toigs is a great game... and am enjoying the odd thing that Majak does; don't care who he plays for, I just love watching guys like him who have that certain, dare I say it, "X" factor!

Yep. Also got a blood rule with a head bandage.

You will not get an argument out of me on that one DemonOx.

I am not dejected I did not expect to win tonight.

As you suggest there have been a lot of changes

I always thought 2013 would be a tough year I have said I though 8 wins would be the Max if luck goes our way.

Nothing tonight suggested otherwise.

WE still need to turnover a number of players at the end of this year and that will happen.

You're kidding mate?

192cm, 95kg and gets rag dolled by a 22 year old in Vickery. Weak as [censored], Lynden, and almost as embarrassing as Spencer.

Must have missed that unless you are talking about the bit where Vickery lost it, gave away a free kick and a 50m penalty. Dunn remained calm, took the free and slotted the goal

For what it's worth I thought Dunn was probably in the best 3 for Melbourne across the 2 games

I am so sorry for offending you.

I am glad we have your wisdom around.

Not sure suggesting we never looked like winning and then not winning can be a lie.

Poor judgement , not the way you saw it or I don't know

But Lie no

I just saw it that way.

Dunn missed the goal

Spencer played ok? Did he touch it? What did Davey do?

I could pick on plenty mate because at the end of the day we are no good and appear set for another season of amateur turnovers from Jordie Mckenzie and more brain dead decisions like Frawley taking kick outs. Not many of them are any good.

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
