CONDUCT UNBECOMING

Featured Replies

A $500,000 fine for employing people that were found guilty is a bit rich and IMO an unofficial concession from the club that it played a part I what happened.

Ultimately it is over, we will have to put with outrage from the Kero's of the world for another week, but this should put it to rest.

Everyone dig deep for "Fine Demolition" night!

Then why are we being fined? Because we allowed it to happen? Load of crap, the AFL is being torn apart by the media right now

Because we facilitated poor comments by CC and actions by DB.

We werent charged for tanking... and ill tank that and $500k fine any day of the week than being charged for tanking and having our draft picks tankened away from us - I wouldnt say tanks to the AFL, but in my mind its the best outcome

Bailey and Conolly have both rolled over, sadly we had little choice here and have got off lightly.

A staunch Bailey may have lead to a different outcome.

DB dug his own hole at his final MFC presser. Being staunch now would have been irrelevant.

on the AFL's website it says 'Melbourne fined $500K, Dean Bailey and Chris Connolly banned over tanking" as the subheading to the link to the article?!

FFS

what tanking !!!

What the hell does 'conduct unbecoming' mean?

I had not heard this allegation in any media before this decision.

It seems similar to the 'bringing the game into disrepute' rule that I've seen bandied about - very vague indeed.

And if this is the only charge that only two individuals are guilty of, how is the MFC liable for their 'unbecoming' actions? How about showing us a clear definition of what that conduct is and isn't, and how a football club is supposed to enforce that rule on it's employees.

What a joke.

Show me the rule.

What intrigued me was the quote was "$500,000 fine to be paid in installments"

Could be a dollar a year for the next 500,000 years

This makes my head spin. No we didn't tank and the club is in the clear. But CC makes a comment and DB felt pressure to rest and move players out of position. But we didn't tank and still get fined. If you take this on the surface it is beyond dumb. The AFL are a bad organization today.

CC should never work for the MFC again.

So stupid comments made by Chris Connolly was the result in this saga lasting over 7 months, and costing the club $500,000.

The Club must ensure his 12 months suspension is finalised with termination of his employment.

Gild the lily all you like, the basics of it is that there is strong evidence that Chris Connolly pressured people not to win, and Dean Bailey succumbed to the pressure.

In regard to the club fine, it is imposed because of the actions of these two, as employees of the club. I'd liken it to, say, a manager of a business breaking Workplace safety laws that resulted in an accident and injury, for example. The business would still get fined because of the actions of its employees.

The finding that Melbourne FC as an entity, or the board, did not direct to lose games keeps the gaming licences issue off the boiler and is no doubt part of the negotiated settlement.

So we are being fined $500k for not taking a joke seriously?

So melbourne are fined 500k for employees doing the wrong thing well I guess essendon are screwed

ffs...he cracked a joke.. Forget the clapp the AFL is uttering atm ..its just its way of flexing its clout.

God Id hate you to be at my back

What a load of C,,P...

We didn't tank but because two employees made comments we get fined 500K more likely that if we are found guilty we lose our pokie licence so they made it not guilty but still cope the punishment...

Obviously alot goes on in the AFL we don't know about and the MFC board has been negioating this but I am disappointed. I thought we would fight the
whole thing not just accept the punishment if you say we didn't so it....

Really really disappointed in McClardy if this is the case.

He is the one taking the grenade you ingrate.

so restiNg players is a no-no....

someone better tell GWS ..freo and...WELL EVERY OTHER BLOODY CLUB..

No, you can rest players, that is OK. You can even play them out of position to "experiment". You just can't do it to secure a draft pick. What a crock. CC has been made the fall guy in all of this.

I suggest CS sues Caroline Wilson and uses the settlement money to pay this disgraceful fine.

At least this [censored] is over and we can get on with the footy.

Also how can you get the third largest fine in history for not guilty ????

The old the employee are there agents and they made a bad comment just doesn't wash

Sets a precedent now for the " flu" playing gws or gc. Will the whifield cup game be investigated. Guess teams that cant make finals cant put players early into surgery

We at least has to make sure Mclean get the Scully treatment in the match against blues

CC should never work for the MFC again.

Seriosly you and your toxic mates can [censored].

It's over. Either support the club and everyone involved or go and support someother club. We dont need or want your types who are still interested in seeing certain people pay for what happened years and years ago.

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
