Doco featuring the Mohawk

Hi everyone,

Years ago in my final year of Uni doing Film and TV I did a documentary on football fans as my graduate project. I've been meaning to put it online for ages and finally did it. It features our very own Mohawk (who was a top bloke to meet and have in the film) as well as different types of fans from Carlton, Collingwood, West Coast, and St Kilda.

I'm very proud of it, and despite the fact it's a bit out of date with things (as it was filmed in 2008) the crux of the story about footy fans still gets across.

Anyway, thought some people on here might be interested to see it. It runs for 12min and in my opinion Angelo (aka Mohawk) has the best line, I'll give you a hint; he talks about our old friend McLaren.

Enjoy!

Nice one mate, that was excellent. The Collingwood guy was hilarious, and obviously a little special, but he had me in stitches. Except when they were burning the swans scarf, as that isn't on. Unfortunately he did get that premiership.

good stuff andrew - enjoyed that

loved the collingwood nuffie who said he barracked for them because of the colours - what colours? black & white aint colours

Collingwood supporters are a bunch of scums! what do they think this is the soccer by burning scarfs and [censored]!? and that Collingwood guy has way too much time his hands, needs to experience life a bit and most defiantly get a female friend.....

Btw good footage too! I remember angelo been a member of demonology member, does he still post there??

Thanks everyone, as far as I know Angelo doesn't post on 'ology anymore. It was funny that night of the scarf burning it just sort of happened that I ended up in the middle of them, always thought that if I wanted to become a war cameraman I'd only need to show that footage to a network!

Excellent mate, thoroughly entertaining, well done.

Hahahaha. Go to 8:52 where the copper says to the pies supporter "Don't be a fuggin idiot mate all your life, alright?"

Great effort Pates! You managed to put together a great of cross section of supporters there and beautifully edited. Nice to see it was a Swinnie product...I was a graphic art student there in the early 70's.

Great stuff Pates. Goddam that fool in b&w is annoying, but they all are. Hope Angelo is back in full colour with plenty to cheer about in 2013.

Thanks Pates. Enjoyed watching that. Your choice of Collingwood talent was spot on, but then again so many to choose from.

What's funny is that when we started out looking for the subjects we wanted to find people that weren't necessarily the stereotypical fans from those clubs. But the more we got into the Pies inner sanctum the more it seemed apparent that we were going to end up with someone like Phil!

I will say this though, of all the clubs I dealt with the Pies were the most eager to help out and give me practically anything I needed. Even gave me tickets to ANZAC day! Not surprisingly Carlton were the most difficult.

Superb film Pates. You should get that out to film festivals.

It has a life out there. Footy fans don't change.

Pates you did a fantastic job mate you should be proud of your efforts mate. One reason I loved it was we don't see enough of this stuff out there. I'm sure there are many ESPN 30 for 30 fans in here who would agree there are so many stories that should be told involving our great game. In depth stories covering war time footy, VFL to AFL, Indeginous players, Fitzroy, Big Jim and other Irish players and so on. The history of the game can be lost so easily. How many kids know about these stories these days?

"I sincerely believe in God & Collingwood"

Says it all really. Bring it on.

I hate that Cheer Squad....

Yeah I sent it out around a few of the festivals, won an award and got into St Kilda film festival. Short films have about a 3 year cycle on the festival circuit as most festivals stipulate they have to be made about 2 years within of screening.

Got another film doing the rounds at the moment, a short fiction film, which I'm hoping will do well and inspire me and my mate to do another doco.

Excellent watch! Really makes me want the footy back now! So many passionate people, I love it!! I think I saw myself sitting in the members area up a bit from Angelo! Always fun! :D

good stuff. I edited a number of short films in the 90's & early '00's Really enjoyed it all but so many hours!!

The above film would be brilliant with a fully blown sound mix. Enhance those crowd roars.

Your intro is superb...

great job dude , i loiked that ,except the pie bit , lol

Fantastic film - well done. It was interesting to see the extent to which hard core footy fans go to support their team; despite the hairstyle that I love, Angelo was the most "balanced". I'm definitely going to summon the courage to say g'day if I get a chance.

Well done.

great stuff pates!

the carlton bird should really consider relocating to Melbourne don't you think?

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
