I suggest the current photos 6 to 8 from the left together with the 2013 leadership group should represent the MFC's present & future not the past.

I am old enough to have enjoyed the performances of the club legends photos 1 to 5 from the left but there must be a few others alive & dead feeling a bit peeved at not being included eg Brownlow medallists, other club legends, best & fairests, goal kickers etc.

I got a 2013 MFC calander for Xmas with 16 players photos on it - 5 have " gawn " you beauty !

Don't think for a moment I'm denigrating 1 to 5 but they simply can't win win us that 13th on tradition alone, its along time since 64.

We Neeld to pump up the tyres of this generation of players, staff, board&lapsed supporters & members.

Please address any replies to Demonland as I know its a bit quiet on here, I,m only a newbie, !!!!!

1 to 5 embody the spirit that the current crop need to summon if they are to go on to the ultimate success. The banner is entirely relevant as far as I'm concerned (and I'm also old enough to have been around to see 1 to 5 representing our club).

Might want to update your favourite players while your at it.

Suppose I should update mine too.

From a practical point of view this banner is easier to maintain than solely having current players who can fall out of favour surprisingly quickly. I think last year's banner included Jurrah, Green and perhaps Moloney - all logical inclusions at the beginning of the year. I think Demonland (Andy) has it just right balancing tradition with the here and now.

There was a thread a while back where Andy was taking submissions from anyone who wanted to design a new one.

Personally I like the old to new theme on this. The only change I would make would be a better shot of Robbie, but a lot of us looked and couldn't find one.

I like the new banner, but would love to see the big fella Neitz added. Only 300 gamer, longest serving skipper and leading goal scorer. Surely that gets you up there?

personally i'd have checker hughes before geddy lyon - much greater influence

How about Ivor Warne-Smith ? What a player he must of been ... our greatest player ? He coached us as well and was right hand man to Norm Smith .

yes macca he was a good 'un (even if he did go to wesley..........just joking)

2 brownlows (at 29 and 31) and he played in the nwfu (tas) for the ages of 23-26, supposedly a player's best years, after playing for mfc at 22 for only one year after returning from ww1

not only the coaching but chairman of selectors till he died

The banner is great. Top Job.

I would adjust one thing.

Last years image of Jimmy in his Blazer and Scarf.

Thats the Jimmy i remember most.

I miss him

While i like the banner i do find myself seeing 4 people missing from it

Ivor Warne Smith , Frank Checker Hughes , Hassa Mann and David Neitz

Just my 2 pence

If we are going down that path, i think we need one D Neitz on it.
Seeing as he holds the majority of records, and probably one of our all time greats.

Also, i think N Jones should feature. Held our club together on-field this year

HT there's a few other suggestions coming & I could rattle off 20 more in our time.

The days of the thermos & rugs have gone ! I'm not saying the the banner will win a flag it should reflect our present & future.

If you have " no favourite players, its about the team " then surely 1 to 5 go & up goes the whole 2013 team !?

Not at all... the banner is not about showing off individuals or the team and is not just about the past; to my mind, it is symbolic of the MFC spirit through the most successful period in the club's history (1 - 5), and represents the future of the club by displaying the current coach and captain(s) - the past is what shapes our future and should not be so readily dismissed..

I know it [probably wasn't intended, but I actually find that "thermos and rugs" term a little offensive. That was a time when they played hard uncompromising footy and they played with integrity... these are values that it would not hurt the club to re-instil into the playing group - not everything that is old is old fashioned.

if I was to make any suggestion about changing the banner (and I have made this suggestion in the past), I would suggest that the incumbent Bluey holder should be included (currently Nathan Jones).

Hey PuntKick, I know it was hotter than hell here in NSW yesterday, so should I consider the above heat affected, or were you actually trying to say something? ;-)

Okay. I can't resist. Where's my namesake...??? (Only kidding!)

I like the current banner. Well done, Andy!

great shot of Robbie, if you ask me - he was a hard worker and it shows - and this is exactly what he looked like under fire just before he ripped 'em open.

It's the eyes... Robbie, Norm and Trenners

Sorry I should clarify. Higher resolution shot of Robbie. That one is a little blurry, looks like it came from a newspaper. Finding higher resolution shots of him has proved difficult :(

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
