Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

2013 - The Year of Neeld

Recommended Posts

I think as long as neeld gets us somewhere around the 8 most of us will be happy, it will be crazy if we don't get results this year considering the list clear out and the improvement with training. Even if we only win 4 or 5 games again this year can we really blame Neeld? If the players put in the effort he does we should see results in no time.

If the club wins 4-5 games in 2013 it will get very ugly.

I think Mark is doing a great job, but that must transpose into wins on the park..The coach's messages must get through, if they don't he fails.

That has always been the case, Look at the NFL last monday...7 coaches got the sack!!!

It is up to the players to take responsibility for themselves..How much do they want it, How much can the coach (with Help) flick that switch?

Any assessment of this year will have to take account of the fact that as things stand now we have the softest imaginable draw. Judgements on the basis of games or quarters won, or some other statistical measure, will be too simplistic.

We could not have hoped for a better draw in football terms, although in commercial terms (home games at the MCG against well supported clubs) it could hardly be worse.

MN has been granted something of a head start.

So, now we are awaiting the year of the Rooster?
Geez, I'm glad you clarified that.

I thought for a moment you knew something about my horse "What a Rooster"

no..what it is saying is that this second year is going to be Neeld's most important as an AFL coach.

If 2013 is not good he can kiss his career goodbye...so it will be fascinating to watch how he handles it all considering the shite he put up with in 2012.

Different people on here will all have different expectations of what "success" is.

What is yours Stuie?

I just think all those things have been said A LOT here and we don't need to keep going over it.

Winning games, that's my measure, and I've said it in the 1,274 other threads the same as this one.

No you didn't start the thread..i did you strange little man.

winning Quarters here and there or the odd stat count won't cut it for me anymore.

It is about the amount of times the ball goes through the big sticks.

Simple.

I think these could be construed as my basic expectations for 2013

Sorry if you don't understand Mr Hur.

don't get sucked in to those who are so thinly 1 dimensional.

this is why we keep failing for this attitude only cares for pedantic-ness & not about team success.

they're successes are only about trying to be right instead of the club winning.

winning is about understanding, respect, & comradeship together with a hardworking hunger for the taste of Wins. not about fluffing about with how one spells a word.

We can keep on track by not feeding the sticklers for nothingness.

but Stuie it is now 2013. It is no longer "The future" & it is from now on the coach's job is on the line.

I think he will enjoy the challenge but whatever tact he chooses, it has to work.

There are no acceptable excuses like there have been in the immediate passt.

I seriously doubt Neeld works on a calendar year. He would have started this year way before the season proper ended in 2012.

What is pass mark on Neeld this year?

8 wins with improved efforts/games against the top 4 teams.

If the team wins quaters or dominates periods of the game against the likes of Hawthorn, Collingwood, West Coast (in Perth) and Sydney, I'll be very happy. It means we can match it with best and we are heading towards a game plan that will stand up in finals. Consistency will come later on.

Then why are you still on here reading it Stuie? Even better, start a topic of your own...

It's all been said before, but what about people who are new on here, they may want to discuss it.

Because I keep getting sucked back in by people replying to me here... I did start a topic of my own, about ex-Dees, trying to get some different discussion topics going until training starts again... Fair point about new people etc, but it seems the same old posters are bringing out the same old cliches about "make or break" blah blah...

wyl I don't care if we put the ball through the stick 5 times once we keep the opposition to 4

I don't want us to get steamrolled anymore, I expect to beat the sides we should beat and win the majority of those who we expect to finish around us namely:

Should beat

Dogs, Port, Suns, Giants

Win the majority of games against

Bombers, Tigers, Lions, Saints, Roos

if we do that and perform well against the other sides whilst sneaking a few wins I will be happy next year with a view to continued improvement in 2014.

For me it's not about winning 10 games and losing 12 it's about the way we win and how competative we are in our losses, we are coming from a long way back. It doesn't mean I am setting the bar low it means I am looking at the big picture. Whenwe next make teh 8 I don't want to be there to make up the numbers

i would be most happy with that as well don't worry.

My main point is that i want the entire team to go onto the ground thinking that they have the ability to win.

Not just a quarter here and there but a sequence of games.

Its been a long long time since this club won 5 in a row...

Losing 5 close ones is not good enough,

I'd like the team to move the ball in a much faster and fluent way . More use of the corridor (not necessarily the middle of the ground, the corridor these days is quite wide) . When we've got the ball we need to play much more instinctive football and become pro-active rather than re-active . More teamwork and spread is required and we have to make better position . Gut running and creating space is a non-negotiable . Our smaller forwards and crumbers must be able to work with Dawes, Clark and Pedersen .

The team needs to continue on the path of 'accountable' footy with a big emphasis on the defensive skills of the game . We have to start winning the count in 'contested footy' , 'hard ball gets' and 'clearances' . Our list must be able to play the 'modern' game (the forward press and the defensive flood should start becoming 2nd nature) . Our kicking and general disposal skills has to improve quite a lot .

It's a lot to ask but we need to do all that and lots more if we're going to start getting into contention .

That's partly what I expect the whole football dept to have as their goal . It's not just about Neeld . Mark needs to have the coaching staff all on the same page and working as a cohesive unit .

What if we have a bad year?

A few injuries and lose a few close games?

Who would coach us if we sacked Neeld?

Who would want too?

What would they do different?

He needs more than 2 years to change the sh!t that we have been for the last 6 years, there will be KPI's but it couldnt be win/lose. I think he is the right man for the job if he is given enough time. Dont get me wrong I'd love to see more wins than losses but I think when Neeld took over we all agreed to take a journey...

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
