Melbourne players were banned from drinking alcohol on their nine-day pre-season camp at Robertson Barracks in Darwin this month.

Dees fitness boss David Misson said the players had been given strict training programs to complete over the break.

"The sessions that they're going to be asked to do are going to be solid," Misson told the Melbourne website.

"The days in between the training sessions are their own, so it gives them a chance to relax with family.

"But the sessions are pretty structured, and they're going to have to send through feedback from those sessions, as well as reach some targets when they come back.

"We're going to know who's done it and who hasn't."

I m sure when Misson ( read club ) suggests the these interim days are their own that it isnt meant to suggest open slather.

Time for some serious inner reflection on the part of some. If they learn anad adapt..so be it.. Should they not, well there simply isnt a place in the new Melbourne for idiots.

Yeh there's nothing in it other than current employees of the club getting sh#t faced in the most public of places & getting ejected from a place where 99% of the guests can maintain appropriate behaviour. I know they are entitled to do as they please in there time off. However it doesn't paint a very professional or dedicated picture of them in particular, they should know better.

These 'blokes' are AFL footballers . This is a high profile sport in Melb. They are educated in the means and hows ( sic) of avoiding unecessary trouble as part of their AFL players personal development.. its part of their work -code.

This was the G the most recognisable stadium in the country on one of the most publicised days of the year at an event reknown for actings-up. They were located in a vacinity also of repute for just such shenanigans. You dont go to 13 for a quiet arvo. So this displays either intent or dumb-[censored] intelligence.

There are NO real days off during your AFL career, not if you want to play at the elite level, not any more.

What other people do or did is irrelevant, are they Melbourne players also ?

I'm with Belzebub on this one. It is not the same as letting off steam with your mates whilst on Hols; it is positioning yourself in a very public place (our home ground) in an area (Bay 13) where most cameras are focussed on the biggest day of the cricket calendar and then not holding your alcohol very well. I suggest that it displays pretty poor judgement from a member of the leadership team (Frawley), a popular senior player (Dunn) and a high profile (mark of the year) player. Blind Freddy could see that they were setting themselves up!

I've just been to a mates funeral.

He was a top fella, & dyed in the wool Melbourne supporter, much loved all around his community & all over the place where he was involved in all organisations, helping in nearly all the areas he could.

He partied hard & he is irreplaceable.

I'd rather sacrifice a tiny bit of over decorum,,, for a bit of spirited play from spirited players, than the mish mash thats been dished up over the last nearly 15 Years.

I'm happy with them getting [censored] once in a while, whether its around someones pool party, or up on the river around a camp fire.

They just need to learn that some don't allow others to be themselves and relax & unwind.

On the drinking, I agree players have the right to let their hair down, but they must take caution when in the public eye. Rightly or wrongly players are seen as role models, and the precious society we live in these days frowns upon any fun where alcohol is involved.

Side note- love how Rivers and Petterd were present yet Geelong and Richmond escape scrutiny. It's always about the Dees. All eyes on us. North would kill for the exposure we get. Currently devising chicken-gate 2- the mighty rooster returns..

Yep, totally agree.

Sometimes you can want something so much, it dulls your perspectives & causes us more losses. see Greg Norman. wanted a US major so much it consumed him & he failed in the face of his overwhelming want.

We cannot let the focus of our desires become greater than ourselves.. this pressure is unsustainable.

That IS another form of putting the horse before the Cart, an impossible desire to survive.

Are you serious? Past players? Then lets bring back Brock McLean and Nathan Carroll to join em. Sometimes past players are past players for a reason.

Some past players, all do stupid things, some more stupid than others.

But I think the players within the club see things differently to the way supporters see the same things,

You know, I've always felt that respect & trust is a birthright, to be given freely before anything.

One can always remove it if needed.

But to offer up front is an open handed approach & gesture of goodwill. This is how a good relationship begins.

Some I've found start off with anger & some almost hatred & distrust. this will always make some fall thru the cracks. this isn't a sustainable way forward, but only serves those already in power positions to control with a tight fist, but ultimately ends in the failure of the goals.

Putting people down for innocently having fun isn't the way forward. Excepting the unsocial behaviours which need addressing from the club.

Honesty & respect are the only healthy ways forward for a team oriented pursuit...

The beers werent so bad. Its the juvenile behaviour that went with it.

At least the players left once Howe was ejected.

The effect of such abuse on your body can quickly destroy any good work (such as Darwin) you have done.

I takes at least 72 hours for alcohol to totally leave your body.

So, if you make a real mess of yourself, training will be affected.
