Jordie McKenzie is a bloke flying under the radar.

Starting his first preseason without any injuries. Already a regular in the team. Wins his own ball. Long seen a blue color worker. Solid player.

He's 23 next season and already played 57 games.

I think.If he can add further polish to his game. Jordie is on track to follow Jones and have a breakout season.

Lets face it, He has average kicking ability, is not particularly well built and is not quick.

Desire and application keeps him on an AFL list. I have a lot of admiration for him.

my memory tells me Jnr MacD was a way better kick than him when he was a similar age.

When you are as poor a kick as McKenzie you have to be brilliant in the others aspects.

Jordie just needs to model everything he does on how Cameron Ling went about the game. Ling wasn't a great kick, but made up for it in so many other areas, and I have no doubt Jordie is the same.

I'm first to put my hand up and admit I had serious doubts over his ability and his prospects as a long term player. I am happy to admit I got it wrong, as Jordie is a beauty.

Billy IMO you cannot be a "beauty" if you cannot kick, he cannot hit the side of a barn at 30 metres.

Ling may not have been a long kick but he was fairly accurate over short distances.

Again IMO unless his kicking improves substantially he will struggle for a spot beyond 2013 as the newly recruited players begin to develop.

Much as I love Jordies Tackling prowess-I must agree with you OD.

We have to aim to kick like the Hawks-if not better and Jordie will need monumental improvement in this area to stay a viable option.

I have a lot of time for this bloke as he always gives 100%, but must agree- if he can't improve his kicking he will be overtaken by Viney and possibly a few others. Needs to work on his kicking and if he can get it right with Viney we have that one two punch we need coming out of the midfield.

I'd rather wait until we see Jordie in a different role or better adapt to his current role.

As an inside mid he rarely gets the ball in uncontested space, meaning that his disposal is constantly under pressure.

We are also playing him as a tagger. This is a pretty limited role to play and is more about preventing others from getting the ball.

Seems a little short and light to be compared to ling.

I do however believe there is a tagger come inside mid role for his considering batram has retired.

Would like him to put on a few more kilos

Depends on your definition of "beauty", Old. I'm not saying he is a star, but the fact that he gives 100% 100% of the time puts him in my "beauty" category.

As I said in my original post, if he can model his game on Ling, which would include improving his foot passing, then he could well be a star. Ling was a star, and a beauty!

And his John Thomas was 2 inches shorter than Ling's, so what?!

As someone kindly pointed out earlier in the thread, Jordie is having his first full preseason, probably ever, and is currently 22 years old. And pound for pound, Jordie is one of if not the strongest bloke on our list.

Part of the problem Stingrays, is that Jordie went through a phase where he would have 24 touches for a game, 3 kicks and 21 handballs, and out of the 3 kicks, he'd only hit a target once or twice. From what I understand, the coach asked him to kick more and handball less, and as this isn't a natural part of his game (higher amounts of kicks), his decision making wasn't "elite", well, as elite as some would want it.

I look forward to watching Jordie in 2013 and for many seasons beyond.

Let's not delude ourselves here. In a half decent side (which we are still a way off) McKenzie a tagger at best. There's no shame it in that but it's fanciful to think he'll magically morph into Sam Mitchell.
