I posted this over three weeks ago and let everybody defend the MFC by saying it was the fault really of Telstra and/or the AFL, however it is still not really good enough that we still don't have any of our draft picks on our list nor do we have an image of our first trade (Barry). They all have numbers and it was a while ago.

Did you contact the club? It's not hard!

For everyone saying that it's Telstra's fault that ain't exactly correct either.

Bigpond/Telstra host the AFL site, and probably have determined / agreed with clubs/AFL the CMS that the site(s) run on. But as to updating content such as the articles that Matt writes, or any of the video content,.. or updating key information on players etc... thats the club's responsibility, not Telstra...

Given now the AFL site has been updated, I presume that each of the clubs will get a chance to do something with the look of their sites also.

As far as draftee details not being updated, there have been details, and interviews posted about each of those people who have joined the club. Some parts of the site they might not choose to update till the list has been finalised next week.

It's 10 ten days since Oucher suggested that the Club might update the list when they draft their rookies last week, yet Tom Gillies (recruited 13 November 2012) is till not listed as a player some five weeks after being recruited onto our senior list!

Obviously neither you nor the MFC. That's two!

As much as I hate to say this I like the look of the gws site (My mate Tim Mohr plays there) I despise the team .. IMO our site is a little dated in design in comparison to theirs

They are all done by Telstra. Its a mess. ANd they are so far behind modern best practice its a joke. But they pay $150m a year to the AFL. End of argument.

The club has very few people fulfilling this role. Its not like we have a department of 15 people.

They have been busy with Darwin and training notes etc. Don't stress, complain and look for what's missing.

Or better still perhaps you should volunteer your services?? The club would be grateful.

If it irks you that much contact the club. As was originally suggested.

Fwiw, I think the 9 day Darwin camp has been covered very well, with daily updates, plus daily footage from each of the days. The club has done a tremendous job.

And there's been a few images of Barry....

If you're waiting for the player list to be updated, drop the club a note, or wait until the club updates it soon enough.

The site has already posted each of their highlights and where they have come from with background stories on each of their selections and how excited they were to be selected in interviews with Burgan. Good information for the fans. More than enough information than I could hope for.

Every year the same question arises, so here is the answer:

With the exception of Essendon, every AFL club site is controlled and managed by Telstra.

Telstra provides a limited amout of upload to each club each day. If the club want to upload extra, then they have to pay exorbitant amounts to Telstra to do it.

Every other club is trying to get their uploads done at the same time. And being in a monopoly position, Telstra don't provide much in the way of resources to do it. We sit in the queue with everyone else, so we have to be smart about what we put up, and with what priority.

If things are happening as far as Club news is concerned ( like Trade week or the Draft ), then uploads of new players video is of higher importance than player weights and heights. Be assurred that when things quieten down later in the year, the information will get put up.

But don't blame the club. Just move your phone services to someone who cares......

George, when you refer to a queue are you asserting that Telstra either update or approve content changes?

It seems very strange that the Clubs wouldn't have access to a CMS for updating the site. (I know Telstra has a CMS that other Bigpond portals use and Telstra staff are not required to update site content).

When you refer to a limited amount of upload per day, is this a limited number of changes or is it based on file size?

A limited number of changes would be surprising so I assume the latter, but if that is the case then it doesn't explain why text could not be updated, because text changes are infinitesimally small when measured in data upload.

Don't get me wrong, I have been following the excellent coverage MFC 'news archive' of the boys in Darwin and it has been very well reported by the Club. I know that some Demonlanders are being defensive of the Club's efforts however rather than 'shooting the messenger' as you are keen to do possibly look at in from the view of constructive comments to improve the website even more. It was just a simple observation as to why Tom Gillies isn't listed as a player 5 weeks after being recruited and I would have 'dropped the Club a note' rather than posting it on Demonland if the MFC site contained email addresses for members to contact them!

'Contact Us' tab under 'The Club' dropdown.

Get in quick though, because if they haven't already shut down for the year they will soon.

Agree with you here Rogue,

I'd be astounded in this day and age the clubs have to do things via Telstra staff... perhaps if they don't have appropriate staff on deck to do things then that could be the case and they have to go into a 'queue' as such and have X free updates that Telstra can provide on their behalf, but there would have to be some form of CMS that the club uses to update content as required.

Most if not all clubs would have skilled staff that could update such content these days you would imagine.

Geez, that was quick. They've only just been drafted and traded.....

The new website looks good. They have photos of all our primary list (including Gillies) actually wearing club jumpers and their new numbers. There is also more bio information on the players which is good. Only thing outstanding is our two new rookies but I am sure that will be there before they go on Christmas holidays.

Actually it isn't. They have cut and pasted a lot of stuff.

Mitch Clark for example....

The Demons hope Clark can add size, marking power and mongrel to their forward line after securing the former Lion for pick No. 12 last Trade Week.

Had a fine 2011......

Yeah, I was disappointed in the fact that the club hasn't updated the player profiles. Hopefully they will when training resumes next year.

I suggest you send an email to the club with the email addresses that are provided under "contact us", just in case they don't meet with your demands with the two new rookies.

If the rookies haven't been updated before 1st of March, I'll drop everything and join your crusade!

Careful what you wish for! Used to be able to sort the playing list by age, height, games etc. etc. This functionality appears to have been removed?

Think you will find that the bio's are from the AFL 2012 season guide.....Will be updated when the new edition is published....(Except for the new players)
