Adelaide do a Carlton

Featured Replies

By the time you all wake up you will be able to read Emma's report about Adelaide's secret agreement with Kurt Tippett for him to be transferred to a club of hie choice for a second round player.

What I find interesting is that the Crows have consistently denied that such an agreement existed and they have gone all out to screw Sydney for whatever they can get.

This poses a lot of questions or does it?

Is it really draft tampering or is it Tippett just looking after his future, and is that draft tampering?

Are the Crows getting their just deserts for not honouring an agreement?

Is Neil Craig in a hot seat here?

and

Does it really matter?

FWIW my answers

No

Yes

No

No of course not.

This will fizz out real quick so they can concentrate on working out if we tanked or not.

They don't want to figure out that we 'tanked'. This is the perfect thing to take the focus off tanking. Hopefully the Herald Sun and Denham latch onto this concept and make everyone forget about Brock's comments.

Geez, that Peter Blucher fella is just Mr. Integrity, isn't he?

Stay away from him, MFC players...

I think they'll get a big fine but I doubt they'll lose draft picks...

It's been pretty obvious that there has been some type of agreement in place otherwise it would have made no sense for the Swans to enter the race for his services. Surely they don't have or are not willing to offer enough to Adelaide to facilitate a trade, so in this case they have something else up their sleeve, the Crows agreement with Tippett.

This could present a pretty big problem for this trade period.

If the AFL does anything it may mean it wont allow a trade which "honours" the deal which means sydney may lose out. Indeed if that is the case and he has to go into the Draft I doubt the AFL will allow him to nominate terms of $1M as that would also reinforce the draft tampering. So he may be forced out for a year.

What will be interesting is the extent to which Sydney knew about this as well.

It may find itself without the forward it needed out of this draft.

You wouldn't want to do a trade just yet until the AFL tells you what the consequences of this is to the draft.

if it is a verbal agreement then it's not worth the paper it is not written on

(the afl have copies of all signed agreements - official ones anyway)

If it is a signed agreement the Crows should be in a bit of trouble.

The lack of movement between the 2 clubs has held up many other deals.

For Adelaide to stipulate the level of compensation years ago is tampering.

That's the problem, they don't have the other one.

What I really want to know is, why does the video in the article have an American narrator?

Wasn't this deal already common knowledge? Or did I just imagine it being talked about a month ago. Suppose the difference is between a gentleman's agreement with a handshake and actually writing it into the contract.

Still wouldn't crack the top ten of dirty dealings in this competition, and most of them are sanctioned by the league.

What a pathetic non-issue.

I will however accept the 1998 premiership cup, farcically stolen via Dr McIntyre, as recompense.

Posted this on the wrong thread.

Story on twitter, my son told me, that Adelaide may be fined $800k and Tippet may be deregistered. Wow!

Tippet Contract Probe

Under AFL rules, clubs can face fines and/or draft penalties if found guilty of draft tampering or salary cap breaches, with a player also potentially facing bans if found to be a willing party.

So both the club and player could possibly face sanctions. What about the player's manager?

Strange situation but I don't think any review will come to anything.

Tippett may be absent for all future trips to Adelaide for his new club, however. Not exactly loved in Farmers Union country.

Off topic, but I cannot believe that NRL used to operate our current Finals system before choosing to switch to the McIntyre system.

Judging by what appears to be official policy, he'll probably get a cushy media gig - the greater the conflict of interest the better.

It would seem Tippett at least made Sydney aware of the clause, otherwise why would they imagine they could trade for him? GC have all sorts of advantages, as do GWS and even Brisbane have better options for trade than Sydney, there is no way they would have imagined they could win a bidding war. This all seems very fishy, I hope somehow it works out in a way that helps us.

Just throwing a cat amongst the pigeons here, but if Adelaide were penalised for the current predicament they are in and as such lost say their 17yo mini draft selection from last year in Brad Crouch (amongst other things) who went back into the 2012 draft, might we take him ahead of say a Toumpas/Wines?

I would.

This topic is just another media beat up.

Tippett wanted out three years ago.

The crows said please stay for a few more years.

Tippett said OK but three years and that is it, and for me staying I will want you to help me get to where ever I want to go.

Adelaide said no probs please sign here.

Tippett said not so fast, I want that in writing.

Adelaide writ.

Tippett signed.

Rather than enter a future draft Tippett wanted some say as to where he was going because it certainly wasn't Adelaide and it was a previous draft that got him to a place he did not want to be.

Does the law of double jeopardy come in to play here?

I am no law person but if either of Adelaide or Tippett get sanctioned it would be a gross miscarriage of Human Rights.

Well, if this is all true then they have well and truly compromised this year's FA and trade period; surely they would have to be excluded completely from the draft, and probably next year's trade and FA period too.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
