WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - DOMINIC BARRY

Featured Replies

Really excited about this guy.

He is true outside pace, he is just naturally fast, does not have to force himself into a sprint like some.

Dom Barrignon perhaps.

Winner.

I really like the look of him. Silky mover, composed with the ball, plus he interviews very well. We did well in the Hogan deal me thinks.

Dunno if its been posted so whatever !! haha

I liked this quote from the article:

A former coach in Central Australia, Scott Weily had texted Barry too when he heard he had joined the Demons, excited to see him get an opportunity that seemed a long way away only 12 months ago.

"He's a really nice kid, [a] top kid actually, and great with his family," Weily said. "I think he is a young Michael Long, very similar playing ability. I rate him as highly as that. I think he has got the capabilities of being something very special."

Shifter Sheehan made the same comparison in the clip embedded below Green machines post

You are correct except it is Dom Perignon.

I think your skills have found their ceiling....champange comedy...hehe

Ok got this from a guy i know down at the rebels, watches most games, he brings up my main worry hadrness, but otherwise sounds very promising.

Hey mate, Dom is a great kid. Really applied himself this year and that's why he is now at your club. Playing style reminds me of Stephen Hill, he is sensational at the run and carry style of game. The knock his coaches had on him though is that he is pretty soft. Have seen him shirk a fair few contests this year and he doesn't really have much defense to his game. If he can gain some confidence in physicality though he will be a fantastic pick up for you gents

Barry reminds me of when we picked up Jamie Bennell, thought he could be the next Peter Burgoyne.

Similar attributes, great run and carry and good ball user by foot, just cant find it or get the contested ball, so not getting to carried away just yet.

Having said that all the best Dom!!

Im not convinced with Barry. He was touted as going late 3rd round/4th round and now hes being compared with Michael Long. He makes Cook look like a Brick Sh*thouse. Before being drafted Bennell could be described in a similar way. I consider him a specualtive bet at best. Barry was the 'steak knives'. Anyway stoked about hogan and so far a very good efforet on behalf of the FD

I agree with the Bennell analogies. Bennell doesn't get involved enough because he's too soft. We'll just have to wait and see with Barry.

Ohh!! Now I get it.

Sorry.

Ohh!! Now I get it.

Sorry.

Just earnt yourself a new nick: "Flipper"

He was at the Draft Combine and we were well represented there too. Do you think it's likely we sat him down for a chat ?

Dustin Martin was also at the draft combine wasn't he? Do you think we sat him down for a chat?

And yes please add me to ignore as it will stop your constant quoting me with smart@$$ replies

Don't burst my bubble with the Bennell analogies please

Just earnt yourself a new nick: "Flipper"

Flipper?

Maybe "turtle" as in slow as.

They say 'age shall not weary them nor the years condemn' but I don't agree.

Not quite...

Thinking logically, it would be fair to assume we'd have spoken to Barry if we were considering taking him. You'd also assume we didn't waste our time talking to Martin because we knew he'd be unavailable to us and you can't speak to every player at the camp.

Seems a lot Sartre and better skilled than Bennell, also taller.

Dustin Martin, not Jack.

Further quote from my mate that watches rebels, when i compared him to Bennel,

Barry never had big possession games, but would be more damaging than Bennell in my opinion. I don't think he'll ever be a major ball winner, more so one of those types that can do damage on a game by only touching it 15 times or so

  • 2 weeks later...

Link to some more extended Dom Barry and many other footage. which i think aret the best yet. A few soft spots but good by foot and definitely is a run and carry player

he is number 17 in the video, feature more in the first 8-10 minutes but i watched it all

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
