WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRIS DAWES

Which teams are getting value for their NQRs?

And who do you consider our NQRs capable of landing our targets?

I didn't say our NQR's could specifically land a target, I said that we should get value or currency for them.

Any of our NQR's should be capable of landing a late draft pick of anything which could be on-traded later as part of a package.

How are we able to offer/can they ask for our Moloney compensation pick? We don't even know what it is yet or if it will even be anything. That's a major drawback of this system.

And it's very much a part of why a lot of secondary deals are hanging in limbo.

The FA segment is way too long, AFL just trying To wring every last morsel of exposure during the off season doing no one any real favours .

I may be going against the trend (although many here are happy to get Dawes).

I am a huge fan - his work ethic is something we sorely need. The cross on him this season is he wasnt taking marks like the seasons before but he chases, tackles, harrasses, presents, shepherds and block. A lot of good stuff that sometimes doesnt really hit the stat sheet. I will be happy nutbean when this deal is done.

Why don't we play Martin as First Ruck and put Jamar at FF?

I would say that because the are both NQR for the position.

Martin isn't big enough to compete againt the bigger rucks out there, and Jamar isn't a FF - he would just be a big lump who would sit there.

Having Dawes at FF, Pedersen at Back-up ruck/FP and Jamar in the ruck is far better than what we currently have.

Is Pedersen big enough to ruck?

He can pinch hit, but that's about it.

I believe the thinking is that he is just a pinch hitter as you say D32, but that he is far more dangerous prospect in the forward line than Martin.

And that is the balnace you want when you have a ruckman like Jamar who will dominate time in the middle - all you need is a chop out. Martin needs 1st ruck; he is not a forward at all.

Have we had any mail today about discussions with Dawes?

I'd love for the club to get it out of the way so they can focus on a ray/pederson/others deal

I agree, I havent heard a peep either. Would love to get an update

Right now im just happy that Dawes selected MFC as the place he would prefer to go. If we pay with pick 20 I think its about right but believe there is more we have to give Collingwood. I dont even mind if we go with Gumby.

Whatever, last week when Dawes said he wanted to go to MFC was a boost.

Considering we traded pick 12 for Mitch Clark, who had shown substantially more than Dawes, I feel pick 20 is as close to a FAIR deal as can be achieved given available draft picks. Perhaps if Lucas Cook hadn't been talked down so much in the media, he could have been thrown in as a sweetener.

We would have traded pick 4 for Wellingham and Dawes (reportedly). What's to stop Collingwood demanding pick 4 for Dawes and pick 17 (which they got for Wellingham)?

I've heard it said from Collingwood supporters that later picks are of no interest to them, as there isn't enough room on the list as it is. So from that perpective, I'm not sure why they would be interested in any of our players either.

It does seem the only thing that could hold up this trade is Collingwood pursuing pick 4, (perhaps with Dawes and pick 17 in return).

However, we all assume that Collingwood is playing hardball on this one, but it could be that we haven't even offered pick 20 yet.

I would make Sylvia watch Ryan O'Keefe's grand final 3 times a week for the next 4 months. I would say that there's no reason you can't have O'Keefe's 2012 if you get fitter, more dedicated, and give 100% to every contest in every minute of every game. Don't do it for a quarter, or a half, but 120 minutes. Don't coast from contest to contest as you often do; and try and match O'Keefe's tackle count from 2102. O'Keefe averaged 6.5 tackles per game to Sylvia's 3.8. His desperation and physicality around stoppages and contested ball was significant.

Jones did a great job of having the type of year that Brad Sewell produces and there's no reason that Sylvia can't emulate O'Keefe.

When Colin Sylvia returned to the side in Round 5, he was coming back from a broken back. Do you think you could forgive him for not tackling with the same intensity?

From Rounds 14-23, he averaged 4.9 tackles a game, and 6 tackles a game from Rounds 14-19. I don't consider that coasting from contest to contest. That's not far off O'Keefe, and given his pre-season was ruined, that's a fantastic effort.

Give the bloke a break ffs.

No.

"From Rounds 14-23, he averaged 4.9 tackles a game, and 6 tackles a game from Rounds 14-19. I don't consider that coasting from contest to contest."

He had a pretty good 6 week period, but he can do far better. He's lazy. I watch him closely and he often "coasts". He could increase his output by at least 25%.

"That's not far off O'Keefe, and given his pre-season was ruined, that's a fantastic effort."

A small portion of his year was pretty good, but he's appallingly inconsistent and always has been. The 30 year old O'Keefe averaged 25 possessions, kicked 20 goals and had arguably his best ever year. Sylvia has the natural talent to emulate that. And no, Sylvia's entire preseason wasn't "ruined" at all. I won't be satisfied by two good months, I'll be satisfied by 22 games played at a very high standard. Nothing less.

"Give the bloke a break ffs."

I give no-one a break. I leave that for supporters like you.

I mark Colin Sylvia harder than any other MFC footballer because with his god given talents he should be consistently a top 10 footballer in the AFL and a star and to date, besides the odd cameo confirming this, he has yet to break into the top 100.

Collingwood are doing very well if they manage to get any more than pick 20 for Dawes, but if there are other clubs circling then I guess that determines the market more than what value people like us or people in the media think.

Skipped 1 page of this thread and all of a sudden it has turned into yet another Sylvia bashing threads. Surely all those hell bent on continually potting Colin can do it in one of the handful of threads they have already started this year for that exact purpose.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
