Magpie 'open to trade'

I was surprised to see no one had started a thread on this kid!!!

I really rate him as a footballer and think he would be a handy acquisition to our squad, can cover a range of positions (HBF,C,FP) is only young and dont think we would have to give much up for him!!! 2 clubs have asked anout Rounds and i wonder if Neeld might be one, seeing he would of worked with him last year.

Thoughts?

I question the lack of games for the time he has been at Collingwood. Doesn't seem like he has actually demanded a spot and we have a number of those types already. Not sure what he has or brings to make him special at 181cm.

That's a fair enough question "D 32". But the position this kid plays it would not be easy to get a game at Collingwood with the likes of Pendlebury, Swan, Thomas etc in front of him.

Players like Rounds on the fringe of top teams are players we should be chasing i feel. Is only 21 and could thrive when given more opportunities.

It may well be that he was in the shadow of Collingwood's many on ballers but my friends who support that club were complaining all year about injuries and the like. One game suggests he struggled to break in even when there were injuries and I don't recall him setting the world on fire at VFL level either.

Watched him closely when Casey played Collingwood and, while Casey dominated all day, Rounds was by far and away the pies best player.

He is too good to be a VFL player. But then again, we've all heard that one before...

I'm sure Neeld would know better than most if he's worth a shot.

Simon Buckley was selected ahead of him many times. 'nuff said

I'm sure there were plenty of hawks picked ahead of "josh Kennedy" when he was there too. Some that prob are not as half as good now. If where going to recruit on that philosophy we might end up with no one.

Funny thing i heard on SEN was that Jarryd Morton would have been one of those who were kept on the hawks list ahead of Kennedy/McGlyn although i think kennedy got offered a contract at the time it was only 1 year to the Swans 3 which sold the deal in the end.

Completely different roles.

Was reported that we were heavily into him in his draft year and were really hoping he'd be available at 51. We worried Geelong might take him at 49, but Pies jumped earlier. Jetta ended up being picked at 51 (looked at Michael Walters here too).

I feel comfortable with Neeld's call on this guy. He would know him backwards, having worked closely with him at the Pies. I'd also like to think that he's chasing Wellingham hard.

What they we didnt take a player who is now delisted earlier in the draft?

Or that we had our eyes on him at 51, making the blind assumption that there were much better players available after that.

Also no mention of the fact Collingwood over this period were lauded for their recruiting.

I recall Rounds was rated as being of extremely high character and "from a great family".

Could be a good one to enhance and assist build a "culture conducive to winning" (much better term than "winning culture").

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
